That website is a joke and the reason most people use a simple password on their eveboard links to stop it from working. Unfortunately I have to agree with this. When I recently sold my main, I got roughly 33% more than Gemblog said she was worth.
All of that aside, there's nothing anyone can do about it. If the characters are overpriced, they won't sell - it's as simple as that. I'm not sure what the outrage of the OP is all about. Eve is a multi player game.-áAnd you are the content. - Ralph King-Griffin |

I am not sure if it's a few people trying to manipulate character prices or just people are dumb. Either way some of those characters will never sell for what they are asking. Don't try to lecture character traders about pricing using that pile of poop website. Most of the time it just amuses us. We can price characters at whatever we want given that we set the prices. Trust me, they will sell - sometimes at a bil per SP if they are focused enough. If people are wealthy enough to buy alts to stick into supers or for specific jobs, they expect a focused skillsheet without tons of waste even if it means paying a premium. Demand is set by the buyers, not the sellers, and it's wealthy buyers pricing scrub lowballers out of the market.
There is indeed a 'conspiracy' to raise prices - pretty much everyone with a brain has increased their focused alt prices by 20-30% in the last few months to mirror plex increases. The horreur. It is always a push to force through a new price ceiling because character values lag behind plex prices, but fortunately dedicated traders are patient and wealthy enough to slowsell whilst prices shift.
The 30-90m sp firesale range is normally where the best deals appear, but there buyers are competing with resellers who know at a glance what characters are worth and ninja the underpriced alts almost as soon as they are listed. As Epeen remarked though, there are quite a lot of those types available at the moment, but to get one you're going to need to put in a few days scouring the forums and be quick off the mark. Guess what - it's a market - some people are better at it than others. If you don't like it, don't play in it. DON'T BE RIDICULOUS! |

Number of skill points and actual cost of training time isn't the only thing that affects character price.
I'd pay more for a character that has been in a newbie corp for all of its life
I'd pay more for a character that does NOT have a stupid name like Pewkitty Lamour or buttfecker asswipe
Id pay more for a character that has the skills I consider important trained to 5
People always over value their characters, they either sell or they don't. That's basic market economy.
Don't like the price? Don't buy.
Cant sell your character at the asking price? reduce the asking price.

Well, youre right, the characters wont/dont sell most of the time. Just look at how old some of the WTS threads are in there. You'd think after a couple of weeks the sellers would catch a clue. I sympathize with the OP because it's frustrating wading thru pages of bullshit and either find nothing, or, as has happened to me recently.. make an offer, THE ONLY offer for that toon, and never get so much as a "FAH-Q" from the seller.
Most people are stupid, and they fudge up my game.
Either the rules apply to everyone, or they don't justly apply to anyone.

I have bought a few characters off of eve forums. I have kept them a couple months will cleaning up their skill sheets & then resold them at a profit.
I take time in selecting the characters to buy & look at name first, then there skill sheet. If both look good to me & I can skill them for a couple months to up their value then I buy them.
When I go to sell the character, I list a b/o price that I think the character is worth for someone that is going to use it. I do not respond to lowball "stupid' offers from others that want to just buy & resell immediately for profit. I only respond to those that want to pay my b/o offer. It might take a few weeks but I am in no rush or need of isk to sell them.
If you do not like the price, you do not have to pay it. I get mad at people like the OP, that want to use that stupid gemblog website to try to scam people into selling their characters for lots of isk less than they are worth. All they are trying to do is make a quick profit over someone they can bully. R.I.P. Vile Rat |

Azami Nevinyrall wrote:Divide maximum SP/hour by total SP. You'll know the actual time spent on training. With that number figure out how long the character has been training for. Divide by 30 for how many months the character has been training. Multiply by cost of PLEX. Add cost of books.
That is what the character is REALLY worth.
Example:
This character has ~give or take~ 99,000,000 SP.
Max SP/hour is 2700
99,000,000/2700 = 36666.7 hours trained. Or, 1527 days.
1527.8/30 = 50.9 months.
Cost of PLEX = 775,000,000.00 (Jita price)
50.9 x 775,000,000 = 39,447,500,000 ISK
Then add skills... I second this. If some...non-mathematician...decides to sell for less than this, more power to the buyer. However, this does NOT mean the character is worth the lesser amount. I would only add the typical 2 PLEX mark up that the buyer is responsible for, according to CCP rules.

Derrick Miles wrote:A website giving you a number based on their own calculations isn't what a character is worth. A character is worth whatever someone else is willing to pay for it. This is a concept this generation of capitalists (yes, you are one out there) has great difficulty with. One of the reasons is the desire for justifications for ones own "profit". If he can make a fortune (as long as it's not off me) then I can make a fortune.
The two words are "value" and "worth." Firstly, it's assumed these are interchangeable synonyms. Though in the vernacular people have come to accept them as the same, this same justification mentioned above is why that's come to be. (Here you must decide the "value" of saying what one means and meaning what one says. If it's of no significance, then go ahead, disregard the subtle differences. If it IS significant, then understand what precision in your language really means.)
So, if you've googled the two words, you've discovered their meanings converge only when discussing "money." We'll assume ISK is "money" - real money. Otherwise, value is "what is regarded" whereas worth has to do with the intrinsic nature of something. For instance: If your house is on fire having a fireman show up at your door is likely to be worth more than having the mailman show up. If you're starving, the pizza man showing up has to be worth more than the fireman showing up. Easy, right?
Okay, so "value" - could be called "what are you willing to pay?" Let's say we do have a 20 million SP character someone wishes to pay 4 billion ISK for. Does that mean the character is now "worth" 4 billion? Let's say you're thirsty. You can drink water from a hose in your front yard for free, or pay your neighbor $500 for a glass of water with ice in it. Is the water worth the $500? Or, is it even "valued" at $500? Your question would be, how would someone declaring they wish to be paid X amount suddenly make the item in question "worth" X amount? Somewhere in there isn't a strong bullsh*t factor working?
You want to say if someone wants to be paid X amount so it's now worth X amount? I say bullsh*t. You want to say if someone wants to PAY X amount it's now worth X amount? I say bullsh*t. So, there's a lot of people getting bullsh*tted these days, eh? Economics - the slow suicide you learn to love. Anyone with any sense has already left town. |
