Can we get some real answers on the lag issues that are a constant problem in fleet battles? If you read the "Corporation, Alliance and Organization Discussions" forum you'll see lots about the ridiculous conditions when Goonswarm and D2 battle in XZH-4X. This is not specific to that system, there is unplayable lag in all large fleet engagements. We would just like to be informed about the cause of the problem, and what is being done by the dev team to solve it. Thank you!

Seeing as how I havn't been able to move for well over 30 minutes and I'm not paying $15 a month to chat, I would like to know what's being done to improve the situation as well.

Edited by: Donkey Chips on 29/07/2006 02:30:37 To further comment on this:
For the past month, what was an epic war has grinded down into a POS-spamming contest up until this weekend because we had been trying to avoid this said lag. Apparently, even after many petitions, requests, and even the TRANSCRIPT of Goonswarms plan to launch an epic-sized assault this weekend wasn't enough of a clue to get node reinforcement.
I think it's safe to say that both Goonswarm and D2 would much rather be engaging in 400 man battles of EVE legend than to be onlining stations and camping gates.

Yes, short of "don't have fleet battles involving 400 people" I'd like to know what is being done to make this game playable. I didn't join to 1v1, I joined to be a soldier in a fleet.

I've just been moved to a station after impulsing for over an hour without being able to control my ship in any way, and I'd also like to know why I should pay $15 a month to do so.

As of now, XZH does not exist. No one can move, no one can do anything. This lag is awful.

Yeah I have to admit I'm absolutely sick of this, I even pay CCP directly which costs me more money because I appreciated how much they were doing.
Seriously, can we have some answers on when you guys plan to fix this?

This lag (xzh battle) was unbelievable. All activity has basically ground to a halt for 45+ minutes. There's a battleship still alive on some people's screens that posted about dying in another eve-o forum. It's like a play-by-mail RPG. A few GMs moving a couple of people into a station is not anywhere enough to solve the problem.

Something needs to be done about this. Large fleet battles should be the most epic and fun part of this game not the depressing fun-draining lagfests that they currently are.

agreed, usually the lag is something we can play through, but occaisionally everyone just gets stuck. At least we are having fun in local with smack free chit chat and amusement, we are all friends when stuck in the elevator tomorrow.

Edited by: Kree Jaffa on 29/07/2006 02:37:46 This is the exact reason I quit EVE the last time. I only came back after 4 months because GS needed some help. We have had nothing but empty promises from CCP regarding lag mitigation. So in a year when Kali-1 comes out we will have improvements? CCP doesn't exactly have a stellar record on delivering performance improvements.

i've been sat still in space for longer than i care to recall now. i warped in to the battle and get out straight awat after being targeted. got out to the safespot and went to warp back to the gate but my rep was stuck on and i couldnt turn it off. got half way through warp and quit out, eventually got backon and nowim here, 0m/s in a random spot in space. apparently im in warp despite the fat im not moving. this is stupid.

I warped in, saw targets and sat there lagged and unable to get a lock on anything for 25 minutes until my ship went from no-damage to popped instantly, then I sat around for another 20 minutes still unable to move. ctrl-q, log back on, sitting in a pod still unable to move for another what, 45 minutes now and counting.

Yes, please CCP. Make this a higher priority than pretty new ships (that people will only look at in their hangars).

I hate to be so negative, but the GMs really do seem to brush us off when we complain about this. Worse, sometimes. Moving us to a nearby station is sometimes worse than being stuck in lag. |

I am stuck in xzh-4x right now. I logged into a safespot in the system. My covops ship is cloaked, but the cloak module is not activated. If I click the cloak module, I get told that the cloak is interfering with module activation!
It's been almost an hour since I logged in and I can't do anything. If I hit ctrl-SPACE I get the "ship is stopping" message, but I keep going at 500m/s.
And I'm nowhere near the grid that has the actual fleet battle.
Why am I paying $15 a month to listen to stories about lag in teamspeak, and chatting. I already have IRC, and that's more fun than this frustration.
Please CCP, tell us why we can't play this game.

Ok ill shortly describe situation.
I ordered my ship to "WARP OFF TO SAFESPOT" at 1:40 EVE time. It is 2:35 EVE time and im STILL flying straight ahead.
Also - i managed to log off, log back on in meanwhile: still flying ahead. My modules work ok - i can change ammo, others can repair. We can shoot each other but we are so far away atm that it is pointless.
Lets just say that WHOLE navigation is dead: no turning, slowing down, stopping, warping etc.
And please dont tell me there is no lag/no problems in XZH.
I only ask for something to be done abt that issue - because atm fleet battles with even 300ppl are impossible, and abt 6 months ago they worked well (BKG during D2 move nrth was pretty good). Thank you :)

I was logged in for an hour and a half and the ENTIRE time all I got was the error message "You cannot do that while warping"
Someone need to take a serious look at this, I've been in fleet battles in syndicate with this number of people and NEVER had a problem this bad. I am seriously considering canceling my EVE account over the repeated problems with fleet battles lately, and over the apparent apathy by the Development and GM Team.
If you still have the receipts for the servers you bought a couple months ago, I would return them and get your money back. |

the thing that seems most telling right now is there are no claims that one side or the other intentionally lagged the system.
no lagboosters, exploits, whatever.
nice that we're not arguing about that now

It really is ridiculous what is going on XZH right now. I tried to warp to a different POS nearly an hour ago and I've been stuck in warp limbo ever since. I don't see a warp effect, my modules can activate, and I can't move at all. Any movement gives the "Can't do this whilst warping" message. This is really not acceptable. This game is often advertised, if not by CCP itself, by the players, as having huge fleet battles. Tonight has shown that this is in no way possible. Right now I'm spending today's chunk of my subscription on an IRC client with a shinny ship in the middle and on spending our server's bandwidth TeamSpeak.

Remember when the new servers were going to solve all the lag problems? Well, given what's been going down in XZH (and I'm guessing every other fight that's involved more than a hundred peeps) I'd say we've got conclusive evidence that it ain't working. Could somebody take a look and fix it please? Maybe a reboot? some node support?

we logged the gang off, everyone logged, and that didn't help. logging in still produces the same result, "you can't do that while warping"

These fleet battles have the potential to be legendary, but tonight shows that the current hardware/software is not enough. Its really sad, because if we could actually fight these battles the songs of our struggles (everyones on both sides) would pull in even more players. CCCP is shooting themselves in the foot by letting some of the best mmorpg fights ever grind to a laggy halt.
