So, does ATXII contend for the best Alliance Tournament so far?
1. The competition has been fierce. Have been watching the AT since AT VI, and I'm confident in saying that there has never been an AT going in to the final weekend with so many teams all with a genuine competitive chance against each other. Is badass!
2. The Drama has been delicious. Major upsets top of which has to be Hydra's fall from grace, and the body blows taken by PL. Along with 2 first time AT teams making the final 4 and all kinds of boundary mishaps ice this delicious cake.
3. The meta has been more fluid with things changing hour to hour as (predominantly PL) open up whole new avenues to prepare for.
4. The commentary team has been absolutely solid. While more an issue of personal taste, for me this is the best team to date. Would be nice to see some of the 'characters' of past years make guest appearances though.
5. Last but not least the number of CLOSE matches. if you ranked the top 10 close AT matches of all time, i'm pretty sure at least half of them would be from ATXII. As a spectacle this alone beats previous ATs handsdown.

I agree with most points, especially 4. I was really sad to see Soundwave go, both in design terms and as a host for the AT, but the commentator group has been really good and I hope most of them can get another invitation for the next NEO/AT. Gargant still has some things to learn, but that is to be expected. You simply don't pick it all up the first time. What I miss, however, is AT prize ships fielded (And subsequently lost).
The matches during last year where several AT ships were fielded and died, with the resulting upsets and the knowledge that these were unique ships, really did something for me. I can hope that we're still in for a treat though!
I also have a suggestion for Elise: If you clip your nails, you won't have anything to bite, and that will save you a lot of trouble after the AT. I know it (probably) is too late now, but I realised Friday that my nails were far too long for my own good with the matches coming up, and as such I decided they needed to be clipped. You might want to do the same next year.
I have really liked the ATXII so far, and the only huge disappointment was the lack of a tournament cat to justify the name of the event. I really can't see why CCP would let that one slide. Minor hiccups, like server-issues and CODE. being controversial, though detrimental, doesn't invalidate a great ATXII.
Oh, and one last comment re: the commentator group: Your work has actually been so excellent this time that several matches can be followed simply by listening to your commentaries. I think it's pretty telling to your level of quality and overview. Massive kudos from here! |

Easily my favourite despite being on the receiving end of some of the afore mentioned close matches and a couple of server issues :) Commentary and meta has been great, maybe a little droney |

+1 Any AT that sees the favorites killed off and underdogs win is good. This one has had some crazy close fights too. |

CAMEL have been working with HYDRA the entire time. They're pretty much HYDRA's B-team at this point.
That's not to say they don't deserve the win, but theyre in no way shape or form underdogs. |

historically you'd have bet on PL when it came down to it, but that's the beauty of this AT, there wasn't really any underdog... it was competitive and at a decent skill level, everyone today (except us :P ) could take it.
we enjoyed our run immensely. our lack of experience showed today, we fell behind the curve as the meta evolved and just had to rely on pure piloting for any kind of chance, the wins went to the better prepared teams as it absolutely should.

I am pleasantly surprised by the commentary team. I was worried when Soundwave left, but Gargant has been doing a fantastic job. This was also the first time I have heard of SirSqueebles, and I really hope he comes back next year.
The only thing that was sort of disappointing was the first few weekends' focus on drone boats. I have seen way too many Gilas.
Also, this is the first time I have put ISK on bets, and if Camel wins, I will be very, very happy. |

I have really enjoyed this years Tournament, the matches have been varied enough for continued interest and some have been nail bitingly close. The commentary was good, I particularly enjoyed Bachinalian and Apothne, you can tell they know all about flying these ships but the other guys did a pretty solid job to. CCP Gargant did well especially with some of the guests who were less fascinating and didn't seem inclined to talk themselves interesting; it would have been a cool touch to feature short cameos of other CCP's rather than just catch sight of a few of them at the end.
There were a couple of downsides, the technical delays were made exceedingly dull by there being no provision to take up the slack with information, interviews and additional features. The failures in the graphics systems also meant that vital tackling was missed and nuances of the game play were lost. I'm sorry but Jita Cam / Dodoxie Cam / Rens Cam etc do nothing for me, please show feeds of incursions and factional warfare or at least something meaningful. Twitch chat was also too spammy and painful to read even though some players and CCP's made some valid remarks there.
The high points were the matches themselves, closely followed by the Alliance Adverts. I will definitely be watching again next year :)

By far the most competitive tournament I've been in. We had no easy matches at all. This forced us to use stronger setups much earlier than hoped, which definitely hurt our chances. |

When I sat down at the commentary desk where Elise had been for the PL matches, there was quite literally a pile of fingernails on the desk. lol! |

Was an awesome showing.
Also @Bacchanalian some of the commentators couldnt work out why the vexors were pulling range from the golem - this would almost certainly have been to get the TPs into falloff to try and buy time. |

Very competitive AT this year. The most competitivive I've seen in these last years, with an extreme series of very close fights.
If it was the best, I have my doubts:
a) The number of boundry violations from the pilots involved was unacceptably high (even in the last day ) and lead to several teams being out of the tounament on ways they weren't thinking;
b) The fleet layouts were always almost the same and with extreme use of Tinker setups and/or drone boats. We rarelly seen other setups;
c) Lack of "shiny ships" being deployed, I'm thinking on the ones from previous AT Tournaments. We only saw an Etana in 1 match. In the AT XI one there were a lot more being deployed by PL/Hydra. with some being even lost;
d) The introduction of jump drives on field on my humble opinion didn't help either to improve the fights. I mean, who wants to see a guy running away in a tournament fight and on top of that lead to several pilots being nuked instantly due to boundry violations. People want to see them going down fighting not vanish.
In the end the best Team in this year tournament won and that's the most important. |

The value of MMJUs was imo somewhat debatable. The clearest example was the clutter on my overview. Ofc, I could have simply unchecked them. But, they are very effective at dodging opponents' mobile drones, or for putting drones on target and then jumping away. I did it regularly during practices. But did not really have an opportunity or need during matches.
The perceived value or lack thereof is simply due to pilot inexperience with the module. On TQ for fleets, they are fairly useless. So most pilots simply don't really know how to use them. I think that is why we saw so many people boundary violate using them.
I would like to see them again. Hopefully pilots will realize that having an instant teleportation pad might be useful, and train accordingly.

I've watched all EVE tournaments since ATX and I agree that this was the best one yet IMO. The competition was higher, the meta changed more frequently, and the commentators seem to get better (at commentating) every year. Thanks to everyone involved for a great show--devs, commentators, and players o/ |

Yeah, re-watching a few of the matches last night now that I'm back home with my wife and kids that dawned on me. Still though, damage flat out wasn't being applied. I double checked, and an all level 5 character without info gang bonuses (ie, a solo Golem) can only lock to 118.75km. Which means the Vexors sitting at 120 were just beyond the Golem's lock range and knew that they would be out there. Well played. |

Personally I think the purpose MMJUs were quite successful. MMJUs main purpose were to provide entertainment during early round matches, enabling teams to, in a highly entertaining way, snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Some of my favorite matches in the first 2 weekends hinged upon someone MMJUing out of the arena. Troll MMJUs best MMJUs. |

Awesome tournament, both from a competitive point of view and with the commentators. The evolving meta also made the last two weekends a lot more interesting to watch.
Hopes for next year: More viewers, more AT ships being fielded. |
