Ok, been running around doing missions all wily-nilly to try to up my corp/faction standings...but it's going EXTREMELY slowly.
What's the best way to up my standings?? (Besides social skills, been training them already)

As you state, social skills boost alot, connections is great for this. Apart from that really is to do one after another and always be on the look for that better agent you could use.. then you've got the storyline missions that give a vast amount of standing increase for another corp ( sometimes for the same ). Something I used to do was find a corp that would give me storylines for the main corp i wished to use for mission running.. this way i would kill to birds in a row.. sort to say.
Grind man.. grind!

If you get your Connections skill up to lvl 3 things will look a lot brighter all of a sudden.

I did train a couple levels of connections, criminal connections, noegotiation, and social up to 4.
Connections only gives a one-time bonus to standing, doesn't help me continue to raise them, and even with the other skills things are going REALLY slow...
Am I doing something wrong? How long SHOULD it take to gain a point or two of Corp Standing?
Or Faction standing?

The thing is that with connections you can upgrade to a higher lvl agent faster, and that higher lvl agent gives you better bonuses and faction standing per time invested.

Connections doesn't give a one time bonus - it permanently increases your standing by that percentage. As your standing goes up, the bonus from connections gets smaller as there's less difference between 10 and your current standing.
As for how long it takes to gain a point or 2 of standing, it depends on your current standing.
Every mission gives you a percentage increase in your standing, the percentage being of the current difference between your current standing and 10.
For example, I have 4 corp standing, I complete an extravaganza mission which gives me a 5% boost to my standing (for sake of argument). My new standing is now 4 + ((10-4)*0.05) = 4.3. However, if my standing was 8 and I did the same mission, my new standing would be: 8 + ((10-8)*0.05) = 8.1
As you can see, the higher your standing, the harder it is to increase.
Faction standing works the same way except that only storyline missions increases faction standing. As you can only do those once every 16 normal missions, gaining faction standing is a lot harder.

If you mean Corp Standing as in Dark Planet Ventures standing towards an agent/NPCcorp/Faction, that figure is an aggregate of all your corpmates' standings towards a particular entity.

Nah, that's something to work out later, I'm talking about "RandomCorp->Reithan" standings.
