If you do a lot of PVP bounties will boost your income but surely other factors decide whether you are going to attack another player ? It has no practical use other than saying well done. Actually not really, more often than not the crap you pull out of their wreck will be more than the bounty. Bounty payout is 20% of the market value on the hull so the payout is never a motivating factor unless the target is in a ludicrously expensive ship, though even then the ludicrously expensive killmail will take precedence over the bounty. =]I[= |

Ralph King-Griffin wrote:Bounty payout is 20% of the market value on the hull Incorrect, the bounty payout is based on a percentage of the Total Loss, so the bounty received will always be considerably less than the actual Total Loss value. The base number weGÇÖre going for right now is 20%. This means that if you blow something up worth 100 million, then 20 million is paid out in bounty (or whatever is left in the bounty pool if less than 20 million).
^This is what is documented, the actual payout does not really coincide with this in my experience. "PvE in EVE is a trap to turn you into PvP content, don't confuse it for actual gameplay." Lipbite |

Yeah was going to mention that your comments are still relevant but you beat me to the edit, just wanted to point that out.
I have got some nice payouts on indy pilots carrying large amounts in their cargo but the large amount in the cargo was the motivation not the bounty. "PvE in EVE is a trap to turn you into PvP content, don't confuse it for actual gameplay." Lipbite |

I was in Khanid Prime earlier today, someone had lost a cruiser in a war dec, right on the station undock point. I docked up, got a hauler, undocked and pulled all the loot from the wreck, docked up and traded it to the guy who owned the wreck. I didn't look to see what it was, I couldn't tell you what it was worth. I don't know, it wasn't mine. I don't like to steal either, so I don't. The point here is, if you feel guilty about stealing the guys Ore, contract it back to him. If you want a permission slip to do it, you don't need one in EVE. It's how the game works but it's on you. EvE is a game of choices. His choice was to put a bounty on me, and because that i've choosen to keep the ore.
Make more excuses. It's not like he was dropping bounties on everyone in system because he could. You stole his stuff. You are a thief. You can accept it for what it is or you can not but it isn't on him. It's on you. He didn't ask you to steal his stuff. He tested your honor system and proved you to be a thief when an opportunity made itself available.
Suck it up thief.

I insisted that it meant nothing, and that anybody could have a bounty. I then placed 100k on his head to prove my point, hoping he would learn that having a bounty did not mean you were necessarily a bad person, because anybody could have one, including him! The rage that ensued was worrying Ummm, damn. Bounties are like an infectious disease that everyone wants to share! LOL!
It's kind of like space herpies.
Hell, had a bounty placed on me because a corpmate and myself were mouthing off to a CODE enforcer, er, goon, er, agent. That also resulted in a wardec, but eh, I just picked up a few ships, moved them to a quiet system and continued mining. |

I pretty much consider a bounty to be a sign that I'm doing my job right. I don't really gain anything tangible out of it, but it makes me smile when my mail flashes and the number goes up. I kind of think of it as similar to tipping your waiter for services rendered. Everyone has dreams, and being one of the faces on the CONCORD billboard is a worthy dream to pursue IMHO. (I have a very very very long way to go, but if you're gonna dream, dream big.) |

Scout Vyvorant wrote:First of all, you dear reader hoping to find a post about to remove the bounty off me, a rant about how unfair it is to get a bounty on or where I show on the doll the spot the bad pilot touched me, I shatter them instantly.
Tonight, while trying to find a good spot to perform my bear, high sec activities, I go scout a belt in my home system, a high sec isolated place I use to mine while writing at the pc. However tonight I wasn't alone, someone was mining in a covetor.
Usually I would have left him alone, knowing that probably it was a bot, but suddenly something so stupid came to my attention, something so incredibly stupid that was too good to be true. I know the basic rule of EvE that says "if something is too good to be true, it probably is", but I couldn't resist. This person was jettisoning his cargo into a giant freighter container, and there, in front me, was a gigantic can, full of ores ready to be taken. By me, and my skiff.
I approached the can, got a full haul, and flew back to my pos. Four times. After a bit I get a blinking mail message from concord, saying this person has placed a bounty on me. Said bounty far exceeded what I've taken from him, and this made me smile.
I decided to write him an in game mail, thanking him for the gesture, and his answer was another bounty of the same size of the first, effectively doubling it.
This person quadrupled his loss by placing a bounty on me, a bounty no one will ever cash in as everybody should know that you have to kill 5 times the value of the bounty to cancel it completely. And for the record, killing an industrial alt that sometimes undock in a tanked skiff to mine 10 minutes a week or to move BPC from the design lab to the assembly array of the very same pos is a true perfect storm and said person deserve a slice of the bounty on my head.
Now I wont lose my sleep over me getting a bounty on my head because... what's the point, and that's I'm asking to the community, what's point in the bounty system? I'd love to hear your thoughts.
P.s. I admit I don't like stealing, if this person asked his ore back I would have given them back. Strangely he preferred to rage at me by placing a bounty.
A few things here.
1) This is eve, and therefore he'd have to be totally nuts to think he could just ask you for his ore back and receive it. It would be different if you took it by mistake, but you clearly willfully took it as a conscious decision, and therefore asking you to change your mind and give it back would not, in his mind, work at all.
2) The fact that he placed these kinds of bounties on you shows that he is inexperienced in this game. So, basically, you.. 2a) Took advantage of a noob 2b) Took even further advantage of the noob by making fun of him on the forums for being a noob 2c) Essentially hurt the person you were supposed to help, and followed through with your epic failure as fully and completely as possible with this forum post.
I hope you feel really good about yourself. |

As Saul said, this is EVE. Theft is expected, and there is nothing wrong with taking advantage of noobs (which are distinctly different from newbs, often referred to as newbros - a noob is someone who could have been around for years and still puts bounties on people). I, too, hope you feel good about yourself. There is nothing wrong with you.
If that doesn't help, you can always try parking in a handicapped space somewhere. It won't take long for a whole bunch of strangers to also tell you there's nothing wrong with you. Then you'll be on top of the world. GÇ£Some capsuleers claim that ECM is 'dishonorable' and 'unfair'.
