alright. this is officially my first post on this site. i'm pretty new to the game, and am currently doing lvl 2 npc missions in a caracal. i'm just about trained and ready to fly a ferox and was wondering what sorta tech 1 setup would be the way to go for npc missions. my sp right now is sorta low, but have the important elec., eng., etc... to almost 4 the whole way down. most of the post i see here show nice T2 setups which i'm not trained up for yet. so..... where is everyones input on the subject....??? thanks!!

Sounds like you are a mostly (only ?) missile user so the above setup is the sort of thing you are looking for.
The Ferox works well as either a missile or a gun boat so when I see Ferox threads overflowing with missile setups I feel I should post a gun setup too
Hi: 5 x 200mm rails, 2 x assault launchers Mid : Large Shield Extender, Med Shield Booster, 2 Damage Specific Shield Hardeners *, AB Low: 3 Mag Stabs, 1 BCS
3 light drones (hornets are best against Guristas as they do kin dmg)
Just as when fitting hardeners on the Cara, choose which to fit using avail info on the damage type of the enemy in any given mission.
If you don't know what damage type to fit for then fit EM + Thermal hardeners as these are what shields are weakest against.
This is an active tank + maximum gank setup so you should not aggro all the rats in a dedspace area at the same time but instead take them on group by group because the tank holds good against 3-4 ships but will fail against larger numbers. However, the DPS is great and I find I whizz thru missions really fast. Note that you do need sufficient gunnery SP - at least 300k - to use this setup effectively.

Despite what anyone tells you, this is your first Ferox. Things to bear in mind:
- The thing turns like a pig. Make sure you have plenry of time to warp out if you need to. - The Ferox can soak up an immense amount of damage. Just don;t get*****y. - Tank before Gank. Fit shield/armour resists, warp core scramblers, etc; then only move to damage mods once you are confident. It will save you 20m at some point. - The Ferox is a rail-boat, but it's equally adept at using launchers, especially with low-skilled pilots. (Rails require more skillpoints to be as effective). - Don't forget that the Ferox can carry five light drones.

sounds like a good setup from what i've been reading.....

what are u planning to do with the ferox? if missions, then passive tank (3extenders 2 hardeners) if pvp then active tank. also if u do use the active tank, make sure ur remaining highslots have 2 med nos
sounds like a good setup from what i've been reading.....

Edited by: kanakuma on 13/08/2006 07:22:24 QFT ,i did and still doing lvl 3s in passive tanked ferox.Last advice if you know damage tpes use hardeners ,if you dont know or more than 2 types use invul fields and putting some skill points to shield skills under enginering and drones lvl 4 minimum (5 highly recommended when you have time)will be good. And shield power relays and bcu's in low slots is standard setup for passive tanked ferox

This may be a noob question but whats up with PDUs? Whenever I fit one on my ship it slows down the cap and shield recharge rate

ur misreading the number
the number where it says shield recharge time means the amount of time it takes to fully recharge ur shields. so a lower number is beter. same with cap. also note that adding shield extenders does not change that amount of time, mneaning that u will be recharging more shield per second if u have shield extenders fitted.

sorry for the double post
use the best named that u can afford to loose shield extenders : F-S89 Regoliaths (sp?) named hardeners have a reduced cap need and are eaiser to fit.

go completely passive. medium slots, 3 lg extenders and 2 rechargers. low slots, 4 shield power relays. Use heavy missles, as these use no capacitor when in battle. 5 heavies, last two highs fit whatever you feel like. (i use two 250 proto rails) but grid is tight without the skills.
no reason to use a ferox as an active tank, it does wonderful things as a completely passive set up.

This is my ferox setup for tanking 0.0 rats in 0mist. Can handle double 800K bs spawn (i didn't get to test it against anything bigger.)
5 X Heavies (Named if possible) 1 X Tractor Beam (Collecting loot without ab/tractor beam is not fun) 1 X med blaster (Angels rats do less damage up close so i just try to get as close as possible and this makes the blaster useful. If you have to drop anything from this setup drop the blaster)
4 X Large Shield Extender 1 X Passive Hardener of your choice
2 X BCU 2 X Shield Power Relay
5 light drones of your choice.
Note my skills are; BC level 3 (15% added to all shield resists) Warhead upgrades level 3 (15% extra damage to all missiles) Drones level 5, etc.
Note this setup absolutely sucks at pvp.
Tor Anasa
Where possible above use tech 2 of course.
