I was thinking (yeah you can smell smoke) There are two things that come up on the forums a lot (ok thereÆs a bunch of things but thatÆs another post). Skills .. What to train .. And being able to queue/change via web. So I had this idea. Its crazy and I'm sure someone will shot me over it but hey I figured I'd drop it out.
Training Programs Packages (aka classes) You can Select a preset package to train (provided you have at lest the level 1 skill) and the system will train them in order based on the package. You can interrupt this like any skill training and once the interrupting skill completes it will return to completing the package.
A package would be the core skills to do something. Like Laser Combat would have Small energy turret, targeting, gunnery, ect. And the package round robins these skills to level 5 if you do nothing else.
This helps out the players that dont know what to train by giving them a direction. And this helps the people that cant be bothered with switch to long run skills when they are not going to be on for awhile by giving something to defult to when they dont log in for a few days.
Well thats my 2isk

Thank you sometimes the coffee reacts with my brain just right and it actuly works.
But yeah the packages dont even need to be all that complex I was thinking maybe 3 or 4 skills max to a package. Personaly I just plug in long trianing time skills when I'm away but I know for some reason there are people that dont like that.

nice ideas that would make things easier especially for newer players. Part of the charm of the game, I found, was trying to get teh most out of my early training by getting several skills up to a point I could train them while at work. The reason this isnt already a feature is people training up characters to sell. It can still be done of course but it is dificult atm.

sounds nice, but the problem is... people will buy an account, start a training pack, cancel account..come back 6 months later for skills done...

yeah but that's if they implement it that way, right now if you cancel sub, your skill keeps training until its done

What if they kept cancel sub > skill keeps training, but make it so that cancel sub > skill finishes training > new skill does not start training.

Well when I was thinking for this I was not thinking packages would have a run time that long. I was thinking mainly the low tier skills and maybe getting max trian times around 1 month. I would not want to see a Training package for say Titan Piloting.

interesting idear, but like you allraedy said just for low tier skills
something like "learnign skill package" trains basic learning skills to 4, or "racial frigate piloting" trains frigate skill to 4, along with small turret/standarf missile to 4(depending on race), gunnery 3, some basic gunnery/missile/cap support skills to 2 and engineering/electronics to 3 for fitting
that way new players will get a bunch of skills trained so it gives an idear on what skills to train, and it leaves them with soem longer skill raining options when its done so you dont have to wake up at 3 in the night and log on during work to change skills cause theres no long skills to choose from ;)
maybe basic shield/armor/navigation/drones as well
- It is much more efficient to talk to yourself in person than via the chat system.

I hate to say it, but there should only be a few packages: a mining one, a learning one and 4 racial frig ones. Any more then that and people will never understand their own skills. I am a big fan of allowing the new guy to fall on his face with training and the come looking for help as 1 it tells me that the pilot is taking to time to actually read thing and do his own research and 2 that he/she understands the skills that he/she is training.
Why do you train mining to 4, it's much faster to train astrogeo to 3 and mining to 3 and move on. The reason is that to use tech 2 miners you need to have mining to 4 making it more important then astrogeo. Where was this learned? In looking at the modules, checking the numbers and by making the mistake that you can put 2 of them on an industrial ship.
We all make training mistakes as new charactors, it's what allows us to understand the game and the way things work and what to look for in the future. These lessons need to be learned early on or you'll have 10 month old noobs everywhere.

nice idea but....
i create and new char.... but a package to train .... dont pay subs for a few months untill its maxxed out.. then pay subs... but another to train... same story again.
if they would concider this thing then they would have to code a program that checks if the acc is active each day.
but it would be great acctually... for new players :D theyd get the idea quicker what skillz go whit other skillz and so on :D

Why would you have to check on the server side everyday. A one time check would be when the person shuts off that account the server shuts off all training on that account ( a simple account flag). No need to check again untill the account is reopened then skills take off where they left off.

then the server doesnt have to monitor all accs all the time.... one check per day... (just after TD or so) will decrease bandwith(SP) usage :P
edit: spelling check... tho its not perfect
