I dont get it... why when talking about mining in a Battleship, everyone says either Dom or Appoc.... but noone mentions a Mega?
Mega has more turret slots than a Dom, Mega has more cap, and Mega can still fit 5 heavy drones for defense and 5 mining drones. And it has just as many lows slots for tank just like Dom (even better since it has more Hp)
So what makes Dom the king of 0.0 mining and not a Mega??

Firstly, Megathron doesn't have enough room for 5 heavies and 5 mining drones. Dominix on the other hand, has enough for 2 sets of heavies, meds, and a ton of mining drones. On top of it all, the domi has the 20% bonus to drone's per level which makes them have more health, hit harder, and mine more. I suppose that the mining drones balance out the additional mining laser that the mega has. And lets not forget the Domi is cheaper :)

dom has a drone bonus which compensates for its lost laser?

The drone bonus for the domi doesn't include a mining yeild bonus.
However, the Domi has an extra mid slot, larger drone bay and is cheaper.

A mining Domi can always deploy 5 boosted heavies and is thus not totally defenseless like most BSs fitted for mining.

The Mega is down a midslot, which means that it can't fit that extra cap recharger. 2 lowslots need to go for CPU IIs to fit the Miner IIs, so the Mega actually has 1 less lowslot than the Domi. 1 less lowslot and 1 less midslot, plus the fact that the dronebay is much smaller and drones don't do the same damage or as resilient as a Domi's drones means that the Mega is only really any good when group mining with a Domi tanking for you. In that case you should use an Apoc if you can fly one.
The Domi is better because it can fit a dual LAR infinate tank. The Mega can only fit a 1 LAR infinite tank. This means that the Domi can handle twice the DPS that a Mega can.
The Mega could tank well with the following setup however but the Apoc would be a better choice as for a similar price it can fit 8x Miner IIs and a similar tank. If you do not need a tank an Apoc is again better as you just substitute Mining upgrades where the tank once was.
BTW insert rat specific hardeners if applicable.
You still have some CPU left so you might want to throw on a launcher

i prefer Dominix as a miningship plateform. Why ? Cause in low sec, he cans tank, destroy and you could fit a mining upgrade

with your miningdrone2, you will not do as much as the miningthron (which has to be totally devoted to mining) but you have a good tank and you can destroy easyly any pop in low sec

I like the 8th high 'tractor beam' slot on the mega, makes skirmish type mining easy (ie not using pre-made insta's to warp to/from). And 5x medium drones are more than enough for 0.1-1.0 belt rats, 0.0 the domi would likely win out.
