Thanks for all the excellent feedback!
We've opened external access to phase one on https://forums.testeveonline.com for testing. Feel free to try it out!
If everything goes as planned, then we'll deploy phase one early next week.
Here's list of new changes that were not included in the dev blog:
- Top bar is now sticky
- Quick search is back on the page, no longer in a drop-down menu
- Back to top arrow is shown on all pages and we've also added "Back to top" link to the sticky top bar
- Time on posts shows how much time has passed since it was posted (2 min ago, one hour ago, 2 days ago, etc) and hovering the mouse over the text will show the timestamp
- Notifications always take you to the relevant post

Salpun wrote: With notifications working correctly no need for a go to last post button in the thread but would be a definite win if added.
Will miss the devblog short cut being in the header. Evelopedia being in the drop down works.
Current version of the sticky header needs more color.
Drop down needs a Dev Developers site access point.
Can we get the thread title first with more text showing in notifications, only last poster is needed or a number of people that has posted lately.
And can we follow individual posters if they post again.
I agree, it would be nice to have "Go to last post" button, we'll think about some neat way to implement it in phase two. Not sure what to do with shortcuts, EVE Universe is already cluttered with many links. I expect most people to bookmark their favorite sites :) But we'll see what we can do. Links in the header drop-down menu are now orange, which adds a bit more color variation to the header.
Sjaandi HyShan wrote:Have you thought of including badges for past CSM, and the forum post originator? I sometimes like to see what past CSM members have to say, or what the original poster says in response to others' posts about the topic. Me likey, we'll look into it for a future update!
On another note, we've deployed a few more changes to forums.testeveonline.com
- Enabled code BBCode
- Top sticky nav is more mobile friendly
- Removed "Back to top" link in top sticky nav, instead the back to top arrow is now mobile friendly.
- New background
- New EVE Forum logo
- Links in header drop-down menu are now orange
We're thinking about deploying phase one tomorrow if everything goes as planned!

Top bar is good in Opera now - very nice. But still can't see who's post it is without panning left or zooming out. Hmm. Can you take screenshot of the problem? Thanks

Can you take screenshot of the problem? Thanks It's not a bug, just a design problem. See here: http://imgur.com/rFxW78KThis is how I view the forums. Double-tap the text column and you can't see the portraits any more. So while you can see who authored #103 because of the edit you cannot see who authored #104 without scrolling left to view the portraits. Which is an enormous pain. Some text of who the author is just where the "Edited by" text is would be great. Ah right, phase two will include the responsive update that will make the forums mobile friendly. Phase one, which you're seeing on testeveonline.com, is still fixed width and includes major changes where we're splitting up EVE Gate and EVE Forums.

DeMichael Crimson wrote:Lar Elinure wrote:The post date is now shown as how long ago the post was made. Any chance you could add an option to show the date in addition /instead of the time from the post? Better yet, would you give that option to those of us too who don't care to log on every time we want to read the forums? Agreed. The time stamp definitely needs to be reverted back to how it was before. Come on, this is a game based in the future with spaceships and computers, it should list the year, day, hour, minutes and seconds of when it was posted. I hate to say this but having it show "A few minutes ago" or "About an hour ago" or "A day ago" tells me you're doing the same thing to these forums as you're doing to the game, dumbing it down. DMC You can see the UTC time by hovering the mouse over the timeago text. The main reason we did this change is because people have hard time figuring out when a post was actually made because of different timezones.

If I want to view my previous posts, instead of just looking at my profile page I now have to make a fresh post in some random place and then click my name? On the Eve gate part that still works like before - so you hover over your picture in the upper part in the forums -> Eve Gate Profile and off you go Nope - not any more. Due to popular demand we'll be creating another update that will include forum profiles (phase 1.1). On the forum profile you'll be able to see latest 15-20 posts made by user and other useful information. Hopefully this update will be adequate until phase 2 is released.
We really want to focus on phase 2 that will be introduced soon (complete responsive design, etc).

Kaaeliaa wrote:Why can't we have the actual timestamp of the posts displayed by default and the _____ minutes/hours/days ago displayed in the tooltip? Same information as we have now, just displayed differently. I'll discuss it with the team tomorrow. I just really like timeago since it gives me rough time when a post was made, instead of having to look at numbers and figuring it out :) Is there any particular reason why people dislike timeago? Twitter, Facebook and many popular sites use it today.

Kirasten wrote:Every time I open up the forums on my phone since the change the character select drop down box is on my screen covering up the forums and making me choose my character again and again. I was excited about the change, but this is making me miss the old forum.
Additionally, when I click a link with my finger, there is no way to tell if i clicked the correct link or perhaps the link adjacent to it. What mobile device, browser and browser version are you using? Did you also encounter the clicking on links problem on the old forums? Please note that this is phase 1 which doesn't include the responsive design, which will be introduced in phase 2.

Forum profiles are now available on SISI. Profiles show character's date of birth, last 20 posts, etc.
Feel free to try out on SISI: https://forums.testeveonline.com/ Here's my profile: https://forums.testeveonline.com/profile/ccp%20rarara
We also removed timeago on posts, however timeago is now shown when hovering the mouse over timestamps.
This will be deployed tomorrow if everything goes as planned.

Rain6637 wrote:interesting thing about the date of birth, it brings some value back to 2003 characters who failed to join NPC corps. (there's debate when those characters are sold, regarding their value, as their employment history shows nothing)
This is a bit outside of the box, but you're reducing the usefulness of the forums as an intel tool (by removing employment history). again, outside of the box, but a move the other way would include bounties or war dec functionality in the forum interface. The notifications are simplified a bit much, imo, but I feel you. The new interface is easier to grope with a smartphone touch screen, and that's just getting with the times. [totally neutral comment, but this burden is shifted to evewho.com/pilot/CCP_Rarara and logging in to the client.]
totally should add a tweet button esp. for dev posts. but also for general spammery because exposure
Hi,
I believe you're mixing up EVE Gate profiles and EVE Forum profiles. The EVE Gate profile still shows employment history while the EVE Forum profile shows more forum related information. Previously you were always taken straight to the EVE Gate profile.
I'll see if we can do something about notifications for phase 2.
