So for the last couple of weeks I have been trying to get back into EVE. I have paid my monthly fee for this character and booted up the game that I logged into back in October of last year with my Windows 8.1 Pro machine and played / changed skills being learned.
But for the last couple of weeks I have had no joy.
I click "login" after filling in my credentials and it gives me the option to "play". So I click the Play button and a black command window opens, DirectXRedist asks me to give it permission to run (I do) and it closes and so does the command window. Nothing. No running process, no hung program, no error. This has continued for a few weeks.
So I have done several things.
First, a rundown of the system:
CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2500K CPU @ 3.30GHz Memory: 16.00 GM RAM (15.97 GB usable) GPU: Galaxy (NVIDIA) GeForce GTX 470 (directx-11 capable) Operating Resolution: 1920x1200, 59Hz Operating System: Windows 8.1 Pro
NVIDIA Driver Version: 344.11 Release Date: 9/18/2014 (Windows Certified)
Second, the issue:
I began a few weeks ago with just trying to log into the game. I noticed upon loading the game that there was an update (I missed updating to Oceanus so I let that happen). I let the game download the update and then tried to log in. Again, no joy. So I proceeded to try to 'dumb down' the game by running in reduce mode, this meant selecting DX9 instead of 11. Lo and behold the game launcher told me that only DX9 was available on my system, something that Blizzard's World of Warcraft doesn't agree with - as it runs happily at full res and DX11 everytime I log into it.
But I digress.
I then proceeded to check log files. Being a web developer and ex-IT, log files are my friend. But again, no luck there, as the log files were completely blank. As were the "stacktrace" files I located. The only thing with any substance were the launcher log files, to which held a few errors, but nothing that looked glaring (no "cannot connect or numbered errors like 403 or anything of the sort)
I ran the repair tool twice - once from the launcher and once from the explorer, neither time resulted in anything other than a "success".
I decided, what could be the harm, I'll do a fresh install and make sure that everything is in the right place - maybe the launcher just didn't install the patch right; whatever.
So l let that happen for a day, and made sure everything was in the right place - and still the launcher states that I only have DirectX9 as an available option, and the game wont start.
I finally decided to use the verbose option from the command line (having previously tried to run the game from the commandline - exefile.exe) and a black window popped up with:
Network Layer using: CarbonIO Executing DirectXRedist.exe ...
and then flashed text and closed before I could read it. After managing to grab a screen shot (took a while), the following was revealed:
Starting up Trinity through _trinity_stub_deploy ... A trackback has been generated. It has been logged in the log server as stacktrace #1 Terminating process by request - returning 0
Not entirely sure what this means, as the stacktrace files (All that I can find) are 0 bytes in length and contain nothing.
Please advise ASAP as I am not made of money and am currently paying for a game I am not participating in.
Thank you.

edit: I have disabled both my anti-virus and firewall (mcafee) and tried to start eve from the command line. Same error as the previous verbose session - "trackback", etc.
Could use some help on this. |

So after some investigation, happened upon the wonderfully documented (/sarcasm) eveonline network guide.
Turns out even my router (outside everything) cant ping the eve servers. I can telnet, but i cant ping. not sure exactly what that means in terms of connectivity because I don't know how the EVE game connects to the servers.
ping was done to: 87.237.38.200.
I can telnet just fine, win8.1 pro, but I can't ping it, even from my router (ping utility built in to test). I can ping everything else though (google, etc).
I have AT&T Uverse. I feel this may be the culprit.
Wondering if you have that too (uverse), Minmatar Citizen 953102....
Possible that AT&T has blocked eve from its traffic? |

Yeah, all pings/traceroutes get refused since the ddos period.

Well that explains the ping problem. Still doesn't explain why the game won't run... |

Like I said. I can telnet but the game opens and then just directly closes on me. Don't know why.
Would love to get some help on this as I would rather be playing the game than here. If the is some kind of billing issue then I need to be told instead of just waiting for me to figure it out. |

Try running that DirectXRedist.exe yourself. The EVE Client should start up regardless of whether it can reach the servers or not. To elaborate, the DirectXRedist is executed when the graphics engine fails to initialise; this is generally because of DIrectX missing, and the install solves the problem. If for some reason that isn't working, running it manually might work.
Failing that I would suggest filing a bug report complete with the logserver output, and dxdiag |

Alright. I did run the redist by itself. It starts and then closes. Not sure what the deal with that is. I'll have to do more investigation |

So this is where I'm stuck.
DirectXRedist will not run no matter what I do. It starts for a moment and then fails to continue.
When I am in the launcher and I go to the Settings and then DirectX, the selection box is grey and it states that my card only supports DirectX9, something I know to be false as other games are ok with it running DirectX11.
I have gone through every iteration of my graphics driver, even using one that I know to be ok with EVE (I installed it and then ran the game last October-ish/November).
NVidia driver 332.1 actually introduces a DirectX11 profile for EVE Online specifically. This profile should carry forward in other versions of the driver but just to be sure I used that specific one and am still having issues.
There has to be something in win8.1 with the way its handling directX for it to not run the game properly. Maybe you could tell me how to output a dev log or you there at CCP could run a dev version on a native win8.1 machine with current updates and the Direct X SDK installed and see how that works out.
I just want to play the game and so far I've paid for a month and it's almost gone completely wasted. |

How can I get log server output? Dxdiag says everything is running perfectly. |

So apparently a refresh of win 8.1 fixed directx. Still not sure what broke it. Going to try installing other games when I get home. I'll keep everyone posted in case anyone else runs into this issue. |
