The game lacks a reasonable salvage ship. This is the best I've come up with.
The Noctis is overpriced and its capabilities wouldn't be used because I use drones to salvage. What is needed is just a basic industrial that can fly drones, but no such thing exists.
Sad to do this to this poor ship though.

Noctis is awesome even if you do use drones. The massive range bonus to tractors makes moving almost unnecessary.
Drop a mobile tractor, launch drones, tractor in the wrecks starting from the furthest (mobile tractor starts with closest) and salvage wrecks that the drones haven't got to yet. Mission space cleared in incredibly short time. |

Depends what you want from it, if you only want the salvage and use drones go with a Tristan but if you want the loot the Noctis is unbeatable.
It might be expensive but remember that you can sell the ship when you're done with PvE. |

I used a destroyer for salvaging, a Cormorant to be specific since you get some from career missions. 8 salvagers in highs, MWD and 2 cap rechargers in mids, cargo expanders in lows and salvage rigs. If you salvage your own missions, take an MTU with your mission boat, fly to the missions pocket, drop the MTU, kill everything, dock, come back in your salvaging ship and salvage. With 8 salvagers it goes really fast, and with cap rechargers you can salvage 2 dozens or wrecks before running out of cap, then just run less salvagers simultaneously. If mission had too many wrecks too far apart, you can bookmark the location, go do another mission and then come back to this one.

Pretty much what he just said. When I ran Lvl 4's I would line 3 up, do one, drop MTU, go to the next, same, the next, same. Dock up hop in Noc and go to 1st, by then all loot is collected and wreckage is in a nice little pile. Send drones and use your salvagers, goes very fast. |

You know, there is a reason why we have the freedom to put all kinds of modules on any ship we want to.
Just because a certain ship can do something good doesn't mean you cannot make your boat to something different.
There is no law here that prevents you from fitting a destroyer with tractor beams or battleship with mining lasers.
You pick what you like and can make it happen.

I suppose I have been using the salvaging process as a time to relax between missions, and manually salvaging is an active process. But also I have been only running L3 missions and the drones do it pretty quickly already. I agree when I am doing L4s I will be more impatient with the speed of the drones.

snip badfit
uwotm8?
The Noctis hull is averaging 71m right now. Full fit is somewhere around 94m. You get a 96km tractor range with a 65% access bonus per cycle. That means it is the best ship in the entire game to salvage your mission. Time spent in a L4 directing salvage drones instead of DPS drones is time wasted, flat and simple.
If you CBF to try a noctis or even EFT a fit instead of badposting, join the Pro Synergy chat and ask them how their business works. |

I'm not sure what you're using it for but the Noctis is not "overpriced" for salvaging level 4 missions. If you only want to salvage with drones why not just put those drones on your DPS ship? That way they can salvage while you're killing stuff.
Drones are too slow for a non AFK salvage ship IMO. If you want to AFK just drop a MTU then come back later with something that has all salvagers in the highs.
I agree that there is a need for a "lesser" salvage ship so a salvage bonused frigate would be interesting for lower level stuff.

what?
No.
a Noctis should pay for itself within a day or so.
TIL, you can in fact salvaged wrong.

I get it already, lol. It's becoming a moot point anyhow as my interest in running missions is declining rapidly, and I'm going to join a PvP corp as soon as I find one that looks like a good fit for me. |

The Noctis is awesome. It's the best salvager in the game. Your opening statement is a complete lie.
With the addition of mobile tractors, salvaging has never been easier.
Price is not a balancing factor. Noctis is cheap anyway, only what, 100 mil?

If I reprocess low value loot (http://www.homo-programmatis.com/EveRefinery/, great tool) instead of selling everything, I get enough minerals to make a noctis in a day or two. Not level 4's, but nullsec DED's/anomalies.

Isk for the ship was never the issue; I've bought a Noctis, I was actually unaware how quickly multiple salvagers could do their thing compared to releasing drones. Almost faster than I can get a target lock on the wrecks. Although I don't use the tractors much because I carry enough MTUs in my mission ship to drop one in each pocket as I fly the mission. I now fully endorse the use of the Noctis.
Not sure what drones to carry since salvage drones are not necessary, perhaps eccm drones to try to escape if someone comes to gank me and I don't see them in time. |

Hornet EC-300's is the only thing I ever carry on a noctis. |
