Yup, DUST is getting another Content Patch. It seems that news of the death of DUST 514 was greatly exaggerated.
This is not the Dev Blog for the Content Patch (Patch Blog expected by the end of the month) but this Dev Blog does confirm the patch, and lists a few of the expected features:
-New maps and new outpost (Caldari Production Facility) -Optimizations to improve frame rates. -Ability to sell your junk to an NPC vender. (Not an open market, but solves a major problem.) -Bug fixes and tweaks which needed a Client Side Patch.
Keep in mind that most Development resources are still dedicated to Project Legion, so we canGÇÖt expect miracles, but new maps and an outpost is pretty major! Even if the Caldari Production Facility was nearly completed in the fall of 2013, it is still a positive sign that they took it off the shelf and finished optimizing it.
I feel this gives some hope of getting the last two Heavy weapons eventually (not expecting that for 1.9 though).

Yeah i was pleasantly surprised when i loooked at the dust forums earlier... If 1.9 truely rounds out the uprising expansion by adding all the missing bits and bobs it will be great.
I guess we will have to wait for the next dev blog to find out though... I may even fire the ps3 back up again..
Wonder what the next expansion will be.... And please don't say Legion as i hope what we saw at fanfest was just a prototype and that it wont be anything what we saw, which was just dust in fancy dress.... |

Hate to tell ya, but prolly nothing large as legion is still being worked on. But you never know, they could shift stuff back to dust for a bit if legion stalls
I still really hope we get tossed a bone and get a little bit of legion/dust and valk update at vegas. but we will see
OMG Comet Mining idea!!! Comet Mining!

Wonder what the next expansion will be.... And please don't say Legion as i hope what we saw at fanfest was just a prototype and that it wont be anything what we saw, which was just dust in fancy dress.... The big challenge with adding new stuff is that it is really hard and requires a lot of Dev time, to get the polygon count on 3d art assets down to the point where they will work on the PS3 without causing extreme lag. DUST really pushes the limit on this due to the size of the maps and putting 32 players into the same instance at the same time.
Because of this some of the holes such as the missing Amarr and Minmitar vehicles will likely not be filled in this patch, unless they just reskin the Caldary and Minmatar models they already have. (I have been calling for this, but CCP does not like placeholders.)
Yes the Maps and the Caldari Production facility sockets are BIG additions, but they were pulled at the last minute from Patch 1.7 (or was it 1.6?) due to performance issues, so they must have been almost finished already.
The one thing we do have going for us though is that anything that is added to DUST can be tested and balanced before Legion even goes to Beta, so there may be a business case there for putting a little extra Dev time into optimizing assets for DUST.
I am hoping that this argument may convince them to put the time into adding the last two heavy weapons (Gallente and Amarr). I would not expect that for 1.9 though.
I think adding the missing vehicles would be a lot more work than the adding the two missing Heavy Weapons, but it would give use a chance to field test them and work on balance.
If Legion starts with relatively good game balance from day one, it will already be miles ahead of where DUST was on official launch.

I appreciate what you are saying about the the time it takes to optimise stuff for the ps3 but we were shown MANY highres unskinned Models and stuff at fanfest 2013 (I think) - Evolution develops things quicker than CCP sometimes (i think i'm joking). |

Yeah, but that is the point. It is a lot easier to adapt those high ress models for use in Legion, as they donGÇÖt have to be scaled down nearly as much. It is challenging to reduce the mesh count on that stuff down enough to make it usable in DUST while still having it look like the high res models, rather than something out of Mindcraft. |

On the other hand using those already low poly-count models in Legion means it should run pretty fast on modern computers. Most developer teams these days are extremely lazy (albeit a core trait for American programmers since the 80's) when it comes to optimization, just look at CIV V for example. Then again I was pleasingly surprised when for modern warfare came out and how good it looked and how well it ran even on older computers. |

Wow these changes look really nice, but too little too late, the game is definately dead I just wish we had 1.9 a year ago, might have a very healthy community and a great game going on. |

I wish we had Hot Fixes Alpha through Delta a year ago, along with some of the fixes in 1.8. If DUST had been released in its current form rather than the mess it was in 1.0 the reviews for the game would have been a whole lot better, and a lot more of the player base would have stuck around. A massive number of people tried DUST in 1.0 and concluded that the game had too many problems and moved on.
1.9 is definitely nice, and does fix some things that could not be fixed in a Hot Fix, but the recent hot fixes, although less spectacular content wise, did more for the game overall than any individual patch.

I for one want DUST/Legion for PC asap.
When DUST was released I did download it onto my PS3, being an EVE and FPS addict, it made sense. Played a bit around with the menus and ran around in the game for a short while. Tbh I did like what I saw, BUT its .:console:.
The minute they release a version for the PC I will be downloading, installing and dying with the rest of you.
Until then; GLHF ;) |

I would love to know that Project Legion is approved by the ruling class at CCP games as well. I would love to play it on PC. |
