Somthing that bothers me about large turrets is that most of them sound incredibly whimpy. A friend in a megathron was shooting 425mm rails, and they sounded like kicking a garbage can, only less dramatic. I was expecting to hear a resounding BOOM, from a ship that size. Another thing bothering me is that these Battleships have all this surface area, and then microscopic turrets that fire shots that look like lazer pointers, and sound like an air rifle. I was wondering if anyone else felt the same way and they at least need to sound better.

Well. Yeah eve sounds and the whole sounds systems should be checkked more accurately, tbh I turn sound off cause lag is far more less this way.
OP : you should'nt hear sounds at all, yo are in vacuum and sounds propagate itself if something propagate vibration ( like air, water etc. )

I agree, about the only bs sized weapons that sound right are lasers.. all the others are quiet in comparision.

its somewhere in the literature, sounds are created by your pod because it helps pilots work out whats going on with the battlefield or something. cheap excuse, but meh =D

Now Mega Pulse Laser II's...mmm nice sound. Ive got a complaint. Rail guns (I forget if blasters have them) when you fire a rail gun you get a cone around your turret...what kind of ghey thing is that??
My idea was to make it like gause rifles (I dont expect many of you to know what im talking about) but make it like after it fires have a small but vieable cartridge fly out (maybe a little exhaust) and a white/smoke trail that flies towards the enemies ship until it hits.
But that cone screams ghey rendering!!#$@$ all over it.

Aye. Fun fact about Railguns: 250mm ones sound really decent, while the 425mm ones sound whimpy, almost as if they had their sounds swapped, or something similiar. In general I guess the sounds of lasers are pretty much alright, but the other weapons could use work.
@ korrey: Wth are you on about? First off all it's 'gauss' and not 'gause'. I really wouldn't expect a lot of people to know about a 'gause' rifle, as it doesn't exist. After poking around a bit, I actually found a Russian Biologist, an US theologist, three schools and a place in Texas with the word 'Gause' in their name, but no aforementioned rifles.
Second point, Gauss Guns are not Railguns, as the underlying concept (magnetic field generated by coils instead of rails) is kind of different. Hence using a Coil/Gauss Gun 'sound' for a Railgun is somewhat illogic.
Additionally, the only sound that Gauss Guns make is the sound of the projectile itself moving, e.g. compressing and displacing air when fired inside of an atmosphere. In space, a real Gauss Gun would make no sound whatsoever, not even for the people onboard the ship that is firing it.
Gauss Guns also use no propellant whatsoever, making an actual smoke trail only have a point when you need a coolant to prevent the projectile from burning up due to friction, which again only makes sense in an atmospheric, and not in a vacuum environment.
Also, one of the points of Gauss Guns is that they do not require cartridges, as they always fire the entire projectile. The only possibility where an ejected cartridge would really make sense is if they contained one shot energy cells for powering the actual gun. As EVE Railguns use cap, and are not powered by their own ammunition, this is again pointless.
I'd also kinda like to hear your definition of rendering.
I apologize for kind of derailing this thread, but I kinda can't stand "My idea was to make it like gause rifles (I dont expect many of you to know what im talking about)" smartassery combined with completely misinformed, incorrect and illogical content. It makes me twitch.
I won't argue that the current effects of turrets are logical (they aren't), but sometimes I really feel the stupid being about to damage my brain. >_> ________ Capitalization is the difference between "I helped my uncle Jack off his horse." and "I helped my uncle jack off his horse."

i think the large autocannons sound great, is a nice thud as 6 of them chatter away blowing up your target, especially when its a raven who hasnt turned his shield tank on and i have emp ammo :)

As far as the Gauss Rifle idea, when I think of it, I think of how awesome sounding the Gauss Rifles were is MechWarrior 4 Mercenaries. The animations on these were not the most glorious, but EVE online is capable of making it much better. But to continue on the sound thing. When in a ship that is packing 425mm rails or artillery guns of insane proportions, your presence should be known. Not just by obliterating everything you see, but by making other pilots shake just by hearing the deafening sound of your might bearing down upon them.

Where all the sounds from the pod interface recorded at a Stomp concert?

First of all, some of you say "there is no sound in space" however, you should be able to hear your own guns. Sound will still go trough the metal of your guns, into your ships atmoshphere and reach you ear, so you should still be able to hear all guns firing from your own ship. Would be cool if they made different sounds for your own guns and the enemy guns, so you could tell them apart. Regarding the railgun, would be cool if you could at least hear the sound of the weaponns capacitor charging up for a shot or something :) And yea, most sounds are lame. Another thing that really irritates me is turret placement. Like on the apoc, seems like there's no real mounts for the turrets, the egineers were like "ok let's just bolt them on here". The geddeon looks a bit better with the turret rack it has, and the tier-3 amarr BS looks like it got it on the money.

There is written in the backstory, that the camera drone and egg system, creates these sounds to improve the pilots awareness.
So, there are no sounds in space, but plenty in your little egg

No, not a cheap excuse, a very very good idea. You can only see ahead, but you can hear in all directions. ----------
