Edited by: 4rc4ng3L on 16/08/2006 21:17:47 So it will be out next year, the new graphics upgrade. What opinions do you guys have on the hardware we will require. Obviously Vista an a directX10 card, something which pains me as i recently bought 2x7950GX2 From what iv seen so far, which isnt much, id say it looks equaly as good as X3:reunion if not better, granted the new DX10 features will bring with it some new added effects which we have yet to see. Do you think it will be as CPU intensive or drift over to the GPU end? I think with the added GPU power available it would make more sence. Maybe a nice 4gb of RAM to cap it all off nicely without any hicups. Can we expect any graphical upgrades for the current client before the big overhaul next year or are we stuck as is for the time being? Also with the new engine i do hope they make some slight improvements to the audio aspect, its an area often left forgotten but it could do with a few more tracks here and there to break with the familiar...

Personally, i have invested into Intel Core 2 Duo processor last week. I do plan a dx10 upgrade too, but i do also not know more details about it.
I have tried EVE client on Vista with it's DX9.0 emulation and beta ATI drivers on X800Pro. the game was running at horrible <17fps. |

As for needing 4 gigs of ram? Doubtful... You'll probably only need two due to the new coding cleanup and streamlining of Vista that MS has been doing. Instead of the old 1gig estimated requirement.. they've downed it to 512.. and have said they're going to try and lower it even more. With the new physics implimentation in most games, I believe almost all new games (even a new client for eve) will probably be more CPU intensive than GPU intensive... Especialy due to space... explostions.. calculating drift of ships and parts floating around in space... heh..
I copied this from my other post.. Just because everyone goes off about dx10 and having to upgrade just for dx10.. etc etc.. There are other options... see below
----
Direct X 9L will in fact be just like DX10 just without the new shading version....
So companies will actualy still invest in Direct X 9, simply because not everyone can afford to upgrade their O/S to Vista and get a DX10 capable card.
Explination is as follows: DX10 will NOT EVER be added to Windows XP or below, It will only be in Vista. This is an official statement from Microsoft (you can google it) Also.. no current video card on the market is DX10 capable and Microsoft has stated that NEW cards will have to be made for DX10 once it is ready for release.
So if you want a decent video card at current rates when DX10 is released, you will be paying 200-500 USD or so not to mention the cost of Windows Vista which is rumored to be between 100 and 300 dollars.
DX9L will be supported by XP and current video cards. :)

I ran Vista for a while on my AMD XP2000/X1600Pro/1gb system. Was actually playable (30-40fps in station), but I got over double framerates after switching back to WinXP. On the memory issue; I'd definitely say 4gb is minimum for any semi-serious gaming rig once Vista becomes "mainstream". Just after booting up the OS was using over 500mb of memory and I'm sure it'll eat more after it's released and you've installed all the little things you just can't live without. 2gb absolute minimum, the constant swapping gets rather tedious, despite the apparently improved caching.

Vista is pretty worthless as an OS. It is more like a service pack 3 of XP. The hardware requirements are pretty steep if you want to run in full vista atmosphere. 2 GiG should be fine for most people... but most people don't have 2 GiG.

Depends on how good you want your games to look...

An operating system that magically makes games look better? Sounds like snake oil to me.

The Aero Glass theme is great as are the small "previews" of windows when hovering cursor over the taskbar. Explorer was nicer also after a bit... Small upgrades, but so much bloat :(

It's way too soon to worry about EVE's performance under Vista.
Consumer Vista is schedueld for Jan 2007 and that might easily be delayed. Not to mention the joy if Xmass hardware will not be Vista compatibile (underpowered PCs, graphic cards w/o DX10 support, driver fubars).
Then there's the question when EVE Vista client will be done. Another question is when will it be stable enough. Think Angel Extra lvl 4, and when that works, the beloved assaults on defended POSes.
I definitely wouldn't start shopping around with Vista in mind and I also wouldn't change your PC's upgrade schedule. ------ No ISK, no fun |
