So I live in the States along with many of the 28,000+ players I'm sure.
Though I take it in stride, it does frustrate me a tad when I get up in the morning at 7AM to leave for work by 8 and can't login due to system down time.
A pity I know. And I do love cheese, just so you know.
There are days I wish I could set skills to start learning while at work, but I can only do it at night before I go to bed. You know, those 8hr + skills.
Am I alone on this issue? It's hardly a major one.
Peace.

It nice that it stops at 7 AM, otherwise I would be late to work worse than I am!

I'm in the same boat, but don't worry, After a while you learn to adapt. Lots of skills your gonna want to train are multiple day trains, Once you get there, you can begin doing the 8h trains on the weekends. Or, you can just wake up a little earlier to get the training going

heheh yeah I could wake up like 10 minutes earlier I'm sure but nah! Not that serious. And I love my sleep.
It does remind me of the construction of major highways. You know, why don't they just do it in the middle of the night ?

Given that downtime for me is at 9pm each night right in the middle of my play time I'd have to say I would love to have your problem.

Thanks, but no. The 11pm downtime is my perfect reminder that it's time to go to bed.

let us all hope that with new technology and the new eve engine that downtimes will not be necessary. If they can do all the things they need without turning off the server, maybe just suspending mining for that hour or whatever else they have to reset?

The DT is scheduled at a time that is convenient to those people that need to work on the server (in iceland and london). Eve has players in pretty much every timezone in the world, so there's no such thing as a DT that's convenient for everyone. :P ----------

I really wish DT for me was 12am, as that would be a good time to go to bed, but no, it has to be 3 or 4 AM (Forget which, always so tired by that time), which is a very bad time to go to bed

That'd be the one.
Although I may be the only person in Wellington who didn't have something to do with the movie.
Hey, since Peter Jackson has the Halo movie, can CCP give him the Eve movie?

I've played games with no dowtime, the reliability is a _lot_ less than with EVE, I know its a pain, but regular reboots help things keep running smoothly.
Give than though, maybe CCP could consider trying 2-3 DTs a week instead of 7, say Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday to lessen the impact a little? Try it on the China server first to see if its workable though ;)

from memory, they did once try a 48-hour uptime.
once.... and never again.
just think, every time you click on something, move an object, kill a rat, mine 1 unit of veldspar, pick up a can, make a BM, etc, that's one entry into the database. think how many times you do that in one day. now multiply that by the 50,000 (or more!) people online over the course of 23 hours...
it amazes me they dont need to reboot more often.

Oh FFS I forgot to set a skill going this morning! Anyway, the downtime for me is when I'm at work, and at weekends I'm only just getting up as the downtime starts, so I don't mind it, so once again, I win. ----------

Could happen when they redesign and rewrite the code totally..
Once the designers and coders get used to the idea of having daily reboots, it is rather impossible to get rid of those. Everything will get designed with the assumption of period fresh restarts taking care of many problems.
Or in other words: DT is a price to pay for faster and cheaper coding cycles -> better chance for Eve to stay around and get more expansions.
