Edited by: r0kit0r on 19/08/2006 10:20:55 I've been spending a little time here and there on a project to create a standalone 3D EveMap.
The basics of the app are pretty much complete, but along the way I integrated another project I had done for the IGB, Dashboard. Dashboard used the IGB to track pilot locations.
Once pilot locations could be visualised in the EveMap, I decided it would be nice add support to show other random stuff in the map and use the IGB as an interface for this (POS, Gate camp, rally point, etc ). I've got the EveMap side of this mostly done, but wondered if there were any IGB / SQL / PHP gurus out there who would use such a map and would like to help out with the server side of things.
Anyway, here are some random screenies...
...And a few more details
If you or your corp are interested in the EveMap, or you'd like to contribute, feel free to drop me a line in game (as r0kst) or post to this thread. I would like to run a small beta in the not too distant future.
Cheers, r0kst

I don't mind being someone to bounce ideas or questions off, I have some experence with PHP4 and MySQL, I would offer more but RL gets in the way and all :(
Drop me an eve-mail in-game when you are putting you beta testing team together though - will gladly take a look and try and use with my corp. --

Look promising. It seems like a 3d desktop version of the Pirate location database. I could help out with the server side of things.

RL has kept me away from Eve of late, not to mention the EveMap. Nevertheless I've done a little bit since the initial post.
- Added support for little label things, and generic map items. - Added some misc functions to the scripter to help loading files from other datasources. - Integrated an alliance killboard. - Started the documentation
I didn't know about the Pirate location Database... very cool...
Still just a little more work before its ready for a wider audience.
I've decided to just open up the data types EveMap uses and make it all very flexible so it will work with any datasource.

Here is a little teaser for you...
Sorry that its 5megs, choppy and has bad colouring. It's very close to being done on the client side.

I'm a near-professional PHP programmer.
Give me a hollar in-game (Archonus) or just reply here (easier for me cause im at college or work most of the time)

The 3D EveMap project has *finally* reached completion. So, I've put up a fairly untested build for everybody to try / test / break:
A setup guide, including links to download it are here: http://www.gourmetproduct.org/r0k/EveMap/Documentation/Setup.html
You will require the CCP database exports from the Eve Online website (see the install guide). More documentation will be available as it is completed... which will be slow, since i hate writing it :-) check out the README.TXT in the install folder.
The server side is still pretty much empty. I'll add some objects to the database soon.
Feedback, comments and bug reports are encouraged :-) rememmber its got alot of untested stuff in it still.

commenting as i go:
you said it creates folders. as all installers do that i assumed you meant to say it creates its own sub-folder wherein it puts its files. i suggest changing it to "it creates its own folder structure" or changing the archive to include a folder or default to creating a new folder for it at the specified position. :)

Edited by: r0kit0r on 02/10/2006 02:17:06 Cheers, I've fixed a bunch of things and put it in a proper installer. Seems more than a few people have had trouble setting it up.
The download link is the same as before, if you've setup the initial version you'll need to delete it and reinstall the new version.
I wonder if CCP would mind if I include the cache files (derived directly from their database exports) in the release? It would make the installation alot simpler.
I won't release again until there are a significant number of fixes, its just these ones were um, show stoppers.

The 200 meg bit is optional, it just means the 2d maps are in the right click menu. Actually very handy tbh.
The 16 meg database export is required.
@Jester: I'll contact you in game and maybe we can sort something out. I don't want to give up the server side code mostly because its embarrasingly bad. After looking at your ingame site I'd say you'll have no problems at all adapting your own code.

Edited by: Xenofur on 02/10/2006 14:16:03 alright, first off: ran the solar maps through a lossless png cruncher. the result is that the whole thing is now 100 MB. :)
http://216.80.15.213/xeno/solarsystem.rar
next a few basic criticisms:
fps, i get about 14 fps on a 2 GB machine. navigation: very unintuitive, perhaps change it to work more like in eve or in an fps, or add an overlay that shows the most common navigation controls. file -> exit, doesn't work. ^^ mouse cursor while click->turning: please hide it, as it's very distracting. turning with the mouse: would it be possible to add sensitivity settings and increase the granularity of the turns? it's really choppy atm and quite slow to boot. the hotspot on the selection cursor seems a bit wacked. i can select things with the tip of the lower line, but not with the actual center of the plus.

I figure the CCP table exports arn't mine to redistribute. Well I didn't see an indication either way, so I didn't take the chance.

I aimed to keep it around 30fps on my machine, it runs at about 28 most of the time. Actually it runs at ~18fps on my old laptop (1.3gigs). I can't really make that go much faster, you could try switching off the labels or the cpu friendly option. I will try to come to a 2d alternative for labels. There is a bunch of debug stuff switched on, but it doesn't drop the fps on this machine.

The camera controls fall into the 'do-over' category. I'll try to make them just like the map in eve.

fixed.

it varies depending on the distance from the target, like i said, it need a rewrite.

its the center of the cursor here, but it relates to the x/y size of the form and doesn't account for the form being resized after it starts.
big thanks for your feedback.
