The fun factor totally took a nose-dive after this. Since he used the forums as a means to scam, I would think CCP should ban his account and just remove the funds from the game (since there is no way to see how much people have lost).
Anyway, I'm just curious to see if others have lost interest in the game.

Scams are in EVE and RL. You just gotta push it aside and move along like you would in RL.

How does him scamming people out of game cash take the fun factor out of the game for you?

The integrity of the game has been diminished. I understand scams happen in games. But this player used the CCP forums to do it. And if I'm not mistaken they've always said that is against the EULA. Haven't heard a word from them yet regarding this.
I'm 100% certain they wont ban him and take the funds away. I can see PCGamer or some other magazine advertising Eve for free. CCP will sit back and let the scam happen. I just don't like the fact they change rules to better themselves. Who knows? I'm just rambling. I don't know facts here.

I don't feel like quitting at all. I think it's great that he was able to pull it off and thoroughly enjoyed the forum drama while people tried to work out whether it was a scam or not.
It wasn't as stylish as the GH-SC scam, so it probably won't get the same kind of media attention. But it does nothing to make me not want to play.

This game is a eat or be eaten game. Integrity doesnt have many places to hide. If he managed to scam some fools out of nearly a trillion isk, how is that different than somebody asking a manufacturer to deliver a ship to 0.0 and then blast him with his friends or ransom the new ship?
The only difference is the magnitude of the theft.
Sure it sucks but that is how the game is setup, if you want forced integrity, I would suggest WoW, but even that can be exploited and scammed.

No effect on me whatsoever. Of course I wasnt silly enough to hand over my isk to a complete stranger without knowing there was something tangible coming the other way.

The forums are free to be used for scams, however, any scam involving real life money - GTCs or characters basically will be dealt with by the GMs.
Scamming was always considered to be part of the game and no action will be taken against Cally for using the forums to further his goals.
Eve is pretty much unique for allowing both the magnitude and the ability for things like this to happen, why remove a unique selling point?

When the last big IPO scam ocurred CCP refunded the isk. There was a large public outcry at this, lead by myself and others.
EVE is about freedom, capitalism, and even deceit. A game without boundaries, a game with winners and losers. Take that away and EVE loses its soul.
In order for somebody to win, somebody else has to lose. If everybody wins, there are no winners.

Personally, I enjoyed watching all the lemmings go off the cliff to the "Rah! Rah!" of DS and other community vets. Quite funny actually.

Anyone who put all their eggs in one basket and lost their entire wallet in this or any scam really needs to have a think about their fund management. Actually, the time for that might have been before investing.
