Hello everyone,
I need some assistance, if I may!
Over the course of the next few months, my EVE time will be cut drastically. However, I can avoid this, if I grab a laptop. Here's the thing, I'm not a laptop person and do not wish to buy a brand new one.
However, I have a coworker who has 2 used ones, both with 16MB of video card memory (all other aspects of the laptop need/exceed the EVE requirements).
I can get this laptop dirt cheap (either 1), but before I do, I want to know if 16MB will be sufficient? I realize I'd have to put settings on low, but otherwise, I just need to run the game, nothing fancy - I have my desktop at home for that.
Any give some feedback on this?
Thanks for the help.

Sorry to post again, but it's a bit urgent. I'll need to get it by end of day today or tomorrow morning at the latest, or he'll have it sold already. He's holding them for me at this time. :)
Anyone? Pretty please! :)

im not quite sure if eve will support that card, is it onboard graphics? Also, if it does run with the 16mb card make sure it has some extra ram to back it up, else you will be left with 20min log-in times and the constant game freezes. (i know from experience). If you post a full spec on the comp here and tell me whether thats onboard grpahics i can give you an answer no problem...

It's a laptop and so, the video card is integrated.
I'm going to buy it anyways. It's super cheap, so I may as well. I think it will run it, since I only need to log in, change skills with it and do some chatting. I'll do my mission/PVPing from my desktop.
I could have borrowed it I suppose, but decided to just buy it.
That doesn't mean no one else can give feedback on this. :)

The real bottleneck will be the processor and how much system RAM does it have?
Most laptops will let you define how much system RAM to use for the video RAM. My compaq is an ATI mobility with 16MB but in the bios i can have it use upto 128MB. It runs eve just fine. -- Commander Zevrik Obikai Fleet Operations, C.N.S. Letalis Caldari Independent Navy Reserve

Ah, thanks Zevrik. And long time no chat (I've been busy and not playing, just training skills).
I just checked and it will go to 128mb in the BIOS. So I think thats great.
Thanks for that. I never actually thought of checking that out. :P Heh.

Question for ya: How high do you set your Video memory to in the BIOS?
Also which Compaq do you have? This guy has a Compaq with the same Video card as the Dell.

In my experience, getn a crappy old computer just to log in, change skills and chat... iv found that the biggest boost to performance wasnt actually the video card or the cpu, but instead the ram... with 128mb its a real pain, however when up'd to 256mb the improvement was very obvious, more so than a cpu upgrade or a graphics upgrade

Thanks to you both!
Both systems have 256MB, but I'll end up putting it to 512mb, he has some upgrades for cheap, for both. :)
Thanks again!

Edited by: defiler on 26/08/2006 13:11:03 Once I was in a situation not too different from yours. Through various circumstances I ended up with an old bitty box where the main bottleneck was a really old graphics card, which was well below the minimum requirements for EVE. After a bit of searching I found NVEmulate which, as the name implies, emulates functions in newer Nvidia cards. The graphics was really ugly and ran at maybe 2 fps, but I could change skills and chat (once I got used to the long delay). It helped me get through a rough period - just...
