I was reading the unlimited power with magnets thread and all the scientests defending the "Energy cannot be created or destroyed only converted" theory. Well, Isnt gravity an infinatly renewable energy source? Considering all things with mass have a gravitational field, where do the fields get power?
Well? Where do gravitational fields get power? If you can answer this please tell me im stupid right now. However if you cannot answer this its still a viable question..
Couldnt we theoretically (In the future) Throw a massive ball into orbit, Have it tow a massive cable on some sort of tram on the ground, and with the friction created from the tram create energy? Well? :S ---------------------------

A gravitational field is a potential energy field.
When you are infinitely far from the gravity source, you have zero potential energy.
At its surface, you have negative potential energy.
The energy you gain from falling from point A to point B is exactly equal to the difference in potential energy, and also exactly equal to the energy it would take to get back up to point A from point B.
The same logic applies to electric fields.
By the way, with your ball in orbit scheme: when an object is in orbit, no work is done on it by the gravitational field. To be exact, when an object is being pulled perpendicular to its direction of motion, ZERO WORK is done. This means that, for example, orbiting planets and moons and balls and satellites have zero work done on them by the object they are orbiting. Gravity simply changes their direction of motion, so they go around in a circle.
P.S. This is high school-level basic mechanics.

Are you high?
My teacher is having these long lectures in physics about how in order for electrical things to work, the electricity must go aroouuund. oh, and ibtl btw...

Remind your teacher that the electricity actually goes the opposite direction of the current flow, because Benjamin Franklin mixed up positive and negative when naming them

No he isn't high, unfortunately my high school physics teacher thought it nessesary to teach me about mechanics as well.

I'm not a scientist, tried studying micro-gravity though (7 years ago).

So gravity being the potential energy converted to kinetic energy as you suggest below:
Originally by: Benglada Couldnt we theoretically (In the future) Throw a massive ball into orbit, Have it tow a massive cable on some sort of tram on the ground, and with the friction created from the tram create energy? Well? :S
The massive ball you've thrown into orbit will simply slow down and fall back down to earth because of the friction from the velocity of your tram.
Unless your ball has a propulsion system. And that brings us back to: needing power to be able to produce power.

We generate plenty of electricity from things falling down. Here's a picture of Ancient Chinese Technology for generating electricity from things falling down.
However, in order for devices like that to continue to work, you need something to pick things up and put them on top again. Here's another Picture of this in action.
Without something picking stuff up, and letting it fall down over and over again, electricity cannot be generated from gravity.

This would be the Minmatar. Hence, free energy.
