And when he's done that, he might want take a look at the EULA. It says there pretty plainly that one is not guaranteed to get a 100% uptime on the service.

Actually - I get his point.
Its a bit agressive to voice it like this - but I get it.
There is only so many times you can apologize, especially in a sincere way.
CCP has reached a point and a size where you dont convince anyone with an apology that easily.
Basically wystlers answer is very good - you have to deal with the consequenses of your action, i.e. letting the server grow too fast with too little HW supporting it, etc

There is the small issue of choice and intent. You choose to do those things. You intended your actions to have those effects. Despite popular forum belief, CCP do not choose to break the server. There isn't a big red "Break the Server" button in Oveurs Secret Volcano Lair (aka Iceland) that gets pressed anytime the Devs run out of beer. ------- There is no magic Wand of Fixing, and it is not powered by forum whines. |

Jim - he didnt mean it, however it is logical to use his answer onto what is happening between us and the server (CCP).
Matthew- CCP chose by itself to let this server cluster we call Eve grow and grow and grow. This is a good thing. However - one has to deal with the consequences of that growth and that has been taken care of a bit too late.
Not blaming Oveur, but would like to blame the project manager ;)

Actually, I think there was a story in one of the Dilbert books of an office where they inherited a big red STOP button on the factory wall, which one of the staff got into the habit of ceremonially hitting every Friday as they went home.
Apparently it was months before their IT team found out why their server was mysteriously rebooting every Friday afternoon!
Perhaps they should check Oveur's office wall...?

No, this is pretty well played sarcasm.
I believe he's refering to the server motd where it "sincerely apologizes" for the downtime.
I guess this is another "refund me my money for the patch downtime" thread, and I may not agree with his intention, but the sarcasm was done damn well --

Silly Silly people.... dont expect to be able to act towards CCP as they act towards us example, On SISI there is an area that CLEARLY states FFA (free Fire area) NO CAPITOL SHIPS. SISI is used by many to test set ups.. CCP "decided " its OK to IGNORE its own rule and let the VIP's at a german convention center take Titans into this area and let off multiple Doomsday weapons.
yet when we , the paying customers got ****ed off and blobbed up and started to shoot these VIP's outside the agreed battle areas I got a warning that I would be banned from the test server for breaking the rules.
CCP dont give a stuff except the money in the bank and how good they look. get used to it !! MERC999 Public Relations Director TBSV Keeping Empire and Syndicate ship builders in business |

Do you understand the concept of the TEST SERVER at all? Your subscription does not include access to the test server, they allow us to access it as a privilege. Which is actually something insanely awesome of them because I can't think of any other company that would ever let that happen. The Test Server is specifically for CCP to do whatever they want. The rules on the TEST SERVER are so that we do not interfere with what they are testing, or showing off, or whatever. They are SOLELY to keep us out of their hair. They can make, break, or change the rules however they want, whenever they want, and we have no right to complain because that's not what our subscription pays for. We have no contractual right to access the Test Server. Tomorrow they could ban everyone from the Test Server and there would be nothing anyone would have a right to complain about.
Of course the spoiled, self-righteous members of the community would still complain because they have no concept of reality and think they should get everything they want regardless of the contract they agreed to or the services they are paying for.
If you break the rules CCP can choose to cancel your account. If you are unhappy with CCP you can choose cancel your account (GASP!). That's the contractual relationship that you have with CCP. Please stop mistaking them for some sort of government that has some sort of fundamental, high and mighty responsibility to their citizens.
