So, I've been working on this app/website that will analyze data from the EvE Marketplace. How it works is by taking the exported market files, picking out data and then performing all sorts of calculations and number crunching to spit out some very useful stats. As to what exactly is going to be able to do, that much I don't wish to release just yet, however...
It will have the ability to analyze the market data for any item in the EvE universe offered on the Market. Also, anyone who I give permission to can upload a file for analysis and the results will be posted and updated in real time (15 seconds delay) on the Corp website.
So, imagine knowing the price of let's say a Hulk in every region of EvE, and come to find out there is a price difference of nearly 25% from one region to the next on sell orders... not only could you find the best deal, but you also notice one region is buying a hulk for 15% more than what you paid, so you decide to sell and make a few million ISK. It goes back to the old cliche "Knowledge Makes you Rich." (Or was it "Knowledge is Power?")
I'm sure this idea has been brought up before, if not already done, I just haven't seen anything about it. But, regardless, if you're interested in contributing any ideas, or joining the Corp and getting the ball rolling, eve-mail me. (This is one of my alt characters who is currently the CEO of SoroSuub, which will be the corp using this app, my main is still in his current Corp until this is in Beta or the Corp has recruited some people).
Thanks for Reading!

I do it too.
Eve-Central is pretty good to be honest, gives me an opportunity to look for certain expensive items (ships) to make sure I am not being ripped off.
For the really hardcore maths (trade routes, average prices, etc) I just run my own database.

I have to agree that if you have the ability to write and run your own database and analysis package, you will get much better information than any online site.
The biggest problem I have with any online site is that it is little more than a univeral market view. That doesn't help you very much when you are a serious trader.

Lemor, I've been doing something similar to what you described. It has worked for me. I hope it works for you too.

I've been pondering doing a Traveling Salesmen Problem type application that could possibly not just generate single routes but entire npc trade-good paths. I've already written some good genetic algorithm code that does well on finding acceptable routes for experimental TSP configs.
It saddens me to hear that people are keeping their own private DBs, I wonder how much effort is redone by many. Obviously we can't all pool our resources and collective efforts flawlessly to universally maximize our ISK gains, but that would be nice

I don't mean to sound harsh, but why in the world would I share any market advantage? This is a dog eat dog (arf arf) universe.

Would be nice if there was a webservice others could use SOAP with to pull market data.

Let's pester the Eve-Central guys.
Oh and doing your own data mining is great. Cept on my box it takes 2-3 mins to return a dataset.

Queries within Queries....
Take the market data... Flush all expired orders Flush all orders that have been superceeded Flush all orders that are over 24h old Find all trades where a profit of over 1% is made Ignore all trades under 1000m3 Take cargo capacity into account, and calculate the other trades Look for routes where a few stations have small supply/demand, but are close together Remove all routes that insist you pass through 0.4 Order those profitable routes Give an indiction of how stale the data is Display IGB
Lots of queries.

Sounds fun. What are you using as your backend? I'm writing a similar system with Ruby/Rails now and ActiveRecord would likely make your task relatively easy

SQL Server 2005
A VB.NET application (running as a tray application) picks up all the data and pushes it to the DB.
SQL Server has some scheduled tasks and triggers to run queries to put a lot of the data into intermediate tables, every few minutes.
SQL Server also has a bunch of stored procedures to create temporary tables in memory, etc.
ASP.NET then pulls the data out and other things.

I'm curious as to how you're acquiring the market data, are you manually exporting it all or scraping it from a website? or...?
