Thanks for making a FAQ! :)

- What will the specifications be for Valkyrie?
A yearning to feel the solar winds at your wings, a heighten sense of 3 dimensional warfare and the ability to shoot people. if your PC can handle EVE Online, you can handle Valkyrie.
We haven't announced any minimum/recommended specs yet, but due to the incredibly heavy demands VR puts on a system (steady 90 fps at very high resolutions, stereo view) I can tell you the requirements will be higher than EVE's :)

Valkyrie will be exclusive on the Rift on PC for launch, and Morpheus on PS4.

To play Valkyrie you must have a Rift or a Morpheus. We have no plans right now to support the game without those headsets, or on other headsets or trackers.
We do continue following development of other headsets but feel there simply isn't anything else out there worth supporting, at least yet.

Very high specs.. but game hasn't been optimized yet :) Running at 75-100 fps right now.

PC only I'm afraid :) To get the required performance on Mac we'd have to go deep into OpenGL ES or something like that.

Comparing VR to 3D TV's is unfair at best.. have you tried the Oculus DK2 yourself? DK2 is great but its really the starting point, and things are about to take another giant leap in hardware :)
VR is disruptive and everyone who tries it (recent tech) gets very excited about it.. you cannot say either of those things about 3d tvs :P

We will be showing some new stuff at Fanfest, so keep an eye out then :)
Even though we had a pretty solid demo ages ago it was just that, a demo.. we've been busy building the full game since.

Karles wrote:I was thinking on getting a Rift before even checking Valkyrie.
I believe it would be a game changer for every hardcore gamer.
The only thing I'm not 100% ok with is: if there would be a 4k version of the rift, I want it on retail launch dates, not having to upgrade or get a new one 10 months later.
Would Valkyrie run in 4k? Also, what about the latency?
Latency is a non-issue anymore, its basically 0ms perceived latency now :)
Even if hardware manufacturers can fit 4k displays into a VR HMD there are other issues that creep up. One is the bandwidth needed for that resolution at 90-120Hz.. The HDMI standard in pretty much all video cards today simply won't handle that.
Another one is the graphical power needed to render all those pixels. I'm pretty sure you wouldn't be happy if we set the top next-gen AMD/NVidia card as a minimum requirement? :)

Thanks! It sounds like DP 1.3 could handle 4k VR then :) But 1.3 was only announced last September and I'm not aware of any video cards that support it.
So yeah, there are many practical limitations why 4K VR is tricky to do for consumers :)

Omega Tron wrote:I have looked thru this and haven't seen this question addressed --
On the PC version of the game have you identified the OS version for your minimum and recommended? The same question for both the CPU & Memory requirements?
We haven't announced any OS or hardware specs yet. It's kind of hard when we don't know 100% the specs yet for the VR devices we are supporting :)
But it will probably be along the lines of Windows 7+, DirectX 11 video card etc.

That was one kickass controller! But not very practical since it was only for one game ;) We fully believe VR will be huge in a few years, it will have more of an impact than people initially think.

Jessica Danikov wrote:You could tell us what you're developing/testing on, with a wink and a nudge that such information has absolutely no relevance to what the specs will be...
I'm waiting for that closed Valkyrie beta, seems a shame to own a DK2 and not be using it for good.
Even that information isn't relevant since we haven't finished optimizing the game :) But we're running on very high end machines, most of us with a 980GTX, 780Ti or top of the line AMD cards.
The demands VR places on development is interesting. The game NEEDS to run at a stable 75 (higher soon) to be comfortable, so we have already done optimizations we would normally save until later.. but are far from done with those.

The Omni is interesting yes, but personally I don't believe it's good enough. How humans sense walking is a very complex process we are attuned to, and sliding along something just doesn't cut it.. IMHO :)

I have very limited control over who gets selected for the alpha, and when :) But it's great to see how excited you are for the game.
To increase your chances of being selected, you can find the DK2 serial in this spot by sliding the cover off the cables:
