I have seen some of the same questions asked multiple times and in multiple threads so I'm writing this to (hopefully) get some of those common questions answered outside of their own threads.
Also, if any member of CCP wishes to change or add anything to this, please do so. (You guys know more than me anyway)
- Will Valkyrie come out on PC?
Yes, yes it will! Infact PC is the primary system for EVE Valkyrie to come out on. It will also be released for Sony's Morpheus system on the PS4.
- When will Valkyrie come out on PC/PS4?
It will be released when the Oculus Rift is released (as of writing 2015), as it is one of the launch titles for it. For the PS4, again, it will be released when the Morpheus is ready.
- What will the specifications be for Valkyrie?
A yearning to feel the solar winds at your wings, a heighten sense of 3 dimensional warfare and the ability to shoot people. if your PC can handle EVE Online, you can handle Valkyrie.
- What will the input controls be for Valkyrie?
Game pad controllers are definite (I can confirm this myself), while the PC version will almost certainly (95% sure here) have Joystick support.
- Will it be integrated into EVE Online/Dust/Legion?
For the time being, no. Other than a shared universe, this game will be an entirely separate venture from the rest of New Eden - i.e. You can't blap another players carrier.
Blessed are those that carry the Empress' Light; with it they destroy the shadows

We haven't announced any minimum/recommended specs yet, but due to the incredibly heavy demands VR puts on a system (steady 90 fps at very high resolutions, stereo view) I can tell you the requirements will be higher than EVE's :)

Will I be able to play it WITHOUT Occulus Rift? I am not a fan of 3D kit etc but I would most likely enjoy the space shooter, will I be able to without buying the Rift? Will I be able to use alternative kit if one becomes available? |

Does that mean to play Valkyrie on the pc, I must have a rift?
To play on ps4, I must have a Morpheus?
Would you support other head trackers irtrack, edtracker, etc?

What does the Launch mean here? Does this mean that I will be able to play it, just not on day 1? Does this mean I will be able to play it on day 1 just not buy it unless I have the Rift?
Can you please clarify this matter a bit as I am eager to know if this will be a technical limitation or just the fact that people that own the Rift will be first to get it?
Thanks |

To play Valkyrie you must have a Rift or a Morpheus. We have no plans right now to support the game without those headsets, or on other headsets or trackers.
We do continue following development of other headsets but feel there simply isn't anything else out there worth supporting, at least yet.

You are shooting yourself in the foot, the face, and nether regions by binding the software to a piece of hardware. If you want this to be a total success, you cannot make it a requirement for people to pay some hundreds of dollars for a giant piece of headgear, to play your game. As much as we like it, we don't plan on buying it.
Just like with 3d tv, the concept is great until you find out you have to spend a few hundred dollars on a pair of ugly glasses to watch a 3d movie. It's nice in a theatre, but for everyday play for the masses... No.
You are setting Valkyrie up to fail by making it a requirement to spend hundreds of dollars on this hardware.
There is a reason people like the other alternatives, such as elite. I built a 10 dollar head tracker, used free community software to configure it, and I had an old joystick that works. It was a very small investment into a game which I had no idea if I would play (I fear my wife would look at me if I had a rift box strapped to my face).
I like Valkyrie, I like dust, I like eve. I play eve because I have a pc. I don't play dust because I don't own a PS4 (not worth the 300 to 400 dollar price tag). I won't play Valkyrie if I have to spend 300 to 400 dollars on a pair of glasses which (in my view) would only be used to play Valkyrie.
Now would I use them to play elite, yea maybe, but I'm not going to spend the money on technology, when there is both an option of creating the game without it, and also prescidence because there is a game that is about to release that does the same thing as Valkyrie, but does not require you to spend a few hundred dollars for a piece of custom equipment.
If it was an option and not a requirement, I'm all for it.
It's a requirement, then in my mind, you are throwing your development time away, taking a needless gamble on a whole new game (you can create the game to both use and not need a vr headset.), wasting my time and screwing up what was suppose to be a great addition to ccp's profolio.
Yaay!!!!

This is a good thing. Legion development on first person shooter for PC, and Valkyrie development for Rift -hopefully- means some bleed through to EVE in the future.

I totally agree with dust coming to pc (heck I'll actually play it). Mandating that their new space game venture requires me to spend 200 dollars is not very smart.
Saying that other equipment to give you the swivel head movement won't be supported because it isn't "worth supporting" is a bit rediculous, considering all they would have to do is allow x and y access configuration.
If that is the way they want to go, so be it, but they already lost one customer for Eve Valkyrie because I would have to spend 200 bucks to buy something that my 10 dollar head tracker can do (rotate left, right, up and down).
I could care less of having monitors an inch away from my eyes, strapped to my face. Now I actually LIKE the rift, but to hell if I'm going to spend the cash to play Valkyrie when there are other options that would give me the core functions I need for 5% of the cost.
But like I said, if that's what they want to do, they are taking a large risk in it. It maybe successful, but it's a gamble to say "buy this or fu you can't play".
Yaay!!!!

Quoted for truth, 3D TVs failed miserably and common smartphones surpass them by means of viewing quality and units sold.
Blu-Ray discs have also failed, because forcing people into thousands of dollars of investment was not the right path. HD streaming and outright downloading the material becomes ever so common. Nobody really ever sells a BD player or BD discs. Things got greedy and restrictive, so torrents and file sharing took care of things.
This post sums up why the 'best' work with DCM inc.

Comparing VR to 3D TV's is unfair at best.. have you tried the Oculus DK2 yourself? DK2 is great but its really the starting point, and things are about to take another giant leap in hardware :)
VR is disruptive and everyone who tries it (recent tech) gets very excited about it.. you cannot say either of those things about 3d tvs :P

Is the reason for the lack of publicized progress and a quick release date a matter of the hardware? Not saying there's been no progress, as all reports show the various demos of the game improving by leaps and bounds as time passes, so I am sure work and improvement continue. But I've heard it rumored that Valkyrie is in an advanced state and has been a while. Is conformance to improved Oculus models the reason there hasn't been a release, an alpha, a beta, etc?
I've got friends telling me Elite with VR is totally blowing them away. Why no alpha, limited beta, etc. for Valkyrie? |

Other than that. what kind of interaction with Eve assets/concepts can we expect? IE familiar ships we can expect to see in game. (I want to shoot a Drake)

I was thinking on getting a Rift before even checking Valkyrie.
I believe it would be a game changer for every hardcore gamer.
The only thing I'm not 100% ok with is: if there would be a 4k version of the rift, I want it on retail launch dates, not having to upgrade or get a new one 10 months later.
Would Valkyrie run in 4k? Also, what about the latency?
