I'm looking into shield tanking my Domi. This would be mainly for missions against Angels and other rats doing explosive damage and even more so for the parts of those missions where you can't use drones. As I'm pretty new to shield tanking, I would appriciate some help. My guess would be something like:
Highs: guns, lots of them
med: 1 XL shield booster 1 shield boost amp 2 active hardeners 1 invul field
lows: 3 reactor controls (those thinks boositng shield hp, shield recharge and cap recharge) 2 Damage mods 2 ?
Also I read a lot of passive shield tanks are good on Gallente ships. How would I setup one of those? Any suggestions welcome.

fit 250mm rails II since minmatar battleships have nasty habit of either keeping big distance(34-38km) or orbiting at 7km quite fast, med rails work on both ranges.
Then i'd rather fit 2x t2 invul and 1 hardener and fill lows with pdus+cpu --------------------- Looking for frentix? Mail me. |

Edited by: Pottsey on 01/09/2006 11:08:10 For a passive tank get the 2 or 3 implants and fit 1 or 2 invul fields, 3 or 4. T2 shield extenders and if you want speed 1 afterburner. 1 or 2 PDS and the rest shield relays if you unsure on the tank fit a warp core stab.
med: 1 invul field 1 invul field or shield extender 2 shield extender 1 shield extender or afterburner
lows: 1-2 PDS or shield relays depending on your cap. 5 shield relays 1 shield relays or warp core stab (8 slots used so scarp 1 module based on what suits your play style)
If your doing lvl 3 missions the above means your pretty much never going die.
ô3 reactor controls (those thinks boositng shield hp, shield recharge and cap recharge)ö Reactor controls boost power grid. YouÆre thinking of PDS (power diagnostic systems) ThatÆs a good choice for an active shield tank. You should hit about 15 to 20ish passive which is nice on top of the active booster.

If you are fitting for shield tanking, 350mm rail II's fit nicely. You can even fit 425's with some squeezing.
But with an armor tank, dual 250 II's allow for some mean resists. --

That's actually what I meant, but I couldn't remember the correct name.

For my armour tank it's more the question of fitting 1 or 2 LARs that decide if I can use 350mms or of to be contend with dual 250mms ... -----------------------------------------------

I have run lvl4 missions in a shield tanked domi for 6 months. It is a nice ship/setup for missions, but you need lots of skillpoints to run it effectively (drones, guns, tank, etc).
My setup: - 6*425 rails - gisti xlarge booster, 2*hardener, shield boost amp, tracking computer - 2*mag stab, 5*PDU - sentry drones and medium/small drones
For the toughest missions (WC, Enemy Abound, zazzmatazz) I replace the tracking computer with another shield boost amplifier.
I also have some crystal implants (I boost 1600 every 4 secs for 160 in cap).

CPRs are incompatible with tanking.
Lesee, you have 5 mids? For general purpose, I'd go with: XL booster, booster amp, EM hardener, 2x invuln field. Lows, power diags.
With 7 lows, I'd lean to 1x damage control, 2x damage mods, and 4x PDS.
T2/named when and where you can, yadda yadda yadda.
Of course, I can't actually fly domis, so have absolutely no clue how well that'll work or fit :)

Edited by: Borasao on 01/09/2006 13:50:51 Check out Raven fittings to get ideas about shield tanks. A Raven has six mids, though, so you'll drop one fitting there, but a Domi has two more lows so you can add stuff there. Typical Raven shield tank:
Raven MID: Shield Boost Amp, XL Shield booster, 4x active hardeners, depending on rats
So, do the same thing minus one hardener (you can run a Raven with 3 hardeners just fine in missions)
Raven LOW: 3xPDU, 2xBCU
Well, the BCU don't mean anything for a Domi so replace them with the appropriate damage mod. That leaves 4 slots open. You can fit two WCS so you'll never have to worry about being scrambled, for example. Or you can fit another damage mod and PDU. You can probably spend some time playing around with those two to find a setup you like but starting out, go with two more PDU (or two WCS) just to be on the defensive side until you see how it behaves, then adjust.
As always, fit the parts above to what you can affort or have on hand (named, tech2, etc)
