I seldomly see this discussed, but I can't believe that I would be the only one who would like native support for multiple screens in this game.
For instance, be able to put maps and all chat-windows (market windows, assets, etc.) on one screen, and the main "cockpit" on the other. Or make it so the second screen has another controllable view (eg, you can pan it freely, as you can with the "regular" screen now, to ultimately have two different views at the same time).
I suppose the chance of this happening is about proportional to the -want- from the community. So I guess this is a way to check if there's more people out there who would like to see this.

only turnaround i found so far to avoid the ship being in the middle of the border between 2 screens is to open an odd sized window, and move it a bit left or right
just let us move the camera and fix it a bit right or left argh, or just move the UI on "slots" like the modules
invisible "anchor points" all over the screen, let us geek the interface out! -

Ok but those who just want full screen eve over 2 screens and hate the fact you have the gui controls right smack bang in the middle is a bit of a pain tbh.

This isn't exactly what you are talking about but when you double the screen real estate, it opens up new possibilities for being aware. I run eve across two monitors and there is plenty of room for chat windows.
I can keep many chat windows and the market open. There is an annoying split down the middle of your ship but your brain adjusts. I'd kind of like it if the right-click-drag would "stick" so I could put my ship in the center of one of the monitors.
-Kal /*----------------------------------------------------------------------------------*/ My opinion in no way represents that of my corp or anyone I am associated with, and is probably entirely wrong. |

Giving people the option to go either way is what I suggest.

Ya, I'd dig something like that. I have a huge monitor and I still get upset at times about the lack of view space because of the needed windows on screen. If I were able to move those to a second monitor that would be awesome.

You all talking about one of these :)
It does work and works nicely. Got mine spanned across 2 Dell 1800FPs and a Dell 2005FPW in the center.

OMG... anyone find a UK stockist for that. I need!
EDIT: Nevermind, they have it at dabs (http://www.dabs.com/productview.aspx?quicklinx=43JM).
The ú180 pricetag seems a little excessive tho.
Anyone know of a cheaper solution?

Was thinking of going down this path when my 19in CRT packs it in. Hopefully by then they'll have an option where you can put a widescreen in the middle slot...

Yeah, get a second PCIe video card, and hook up 2 LCds to one, and 1 to the third one. Bit tricky, but doable.
Personally, I want one of those video clusters, which are like 3x3 LCDs or so... Need a node for every 2 LCDs. Was thinking about building 3 A64 (single cores) with a little RAM, and setting them up as a Linux 64 bit cluster, and dropping a 7900GT in each one. Then hook up a pair of 17" LCDs to each one, and feed the video input from my gaming PC into it using a custom board and driver. Could fiddle with the display in the video input board so that my gaming PC treats the cluster as a single "monitor" with a gargantuan resolution. RABBLE! RABBLERABBLE!! |

Yea, its funky. The widescreen in the center is forced to display at 1280x1024. So it has black borders on the sides.

How do you set that up? I only get display options for 1024x768, 1024x1280, and 1680x1050. I have two monitors running 1680x1050, andI'd like to set EVE up to run something like 2200x1050 so that I can keep the ship and controls all on one monitor and a little space on the other for chats, etc, but I can't make it give me that option.

No, I'm not talking about, via hardware splitting one screen over three (it looks like crap if you do it on two, because the middle of the screen will be your "crosshair", I'm talking about an option to be able to configure what goes on secondary (or tirtiary ... etc. screens) - eg, having chat-windows on one, map on one, rear view on one, etc.

Edited by: Elgar Lightfoot on 22/09/2006 11:13:22 WOW. I just sent off for one of the matrox splitters (after seeing this thread). I'll be able to have 4 monitors going :).
1 on the DVI that runs my desktop display, then the other through the splitter to run 3 monitors for EVE :).

I have three screens on my desktop, Main is directly ahead of me and I use that for browsing and games, second is to my right and I use that for messengers and media programs, third is mounted on the wall to my left and displays technical readouts for my computer, fan speeds, voltages and things like that. I will cry if they introduce multiple screen support and it screws with my setup.

Short answer? This will probably be possible in the Vista version only. If CCP were going to OpenGL 2, it'd be possible in all, but...
