Hello all! This is my first post ever so forgive me if I should totally make a mess of it. Also I'm not sure where this should go so New Player forum seemed a good place to try.
I played this game a long while ago, but had to quit to focus on my college studies. Im thinking of coming back (using the trial to test that waters) and want some advice from the community. My goal is to try and skip the grind of getting to a battleship (which my old character already has stranded out in 0.0, d'oh) and focusing on frigate sized vessels. That is to say, spend my time perfecting frig combat setups as well as interceptors and assault ships.
Is this a viable path to take?
Should I use my old character or start a new one?
I'll probably focus on Gallente (love hybrid guns for some reason). Is that a good choice?
I don't plan on devoting a ton of time to in-game stuff since school is starting soon so this all seems like a cheap(er) way to play ISK-wise.

how long ago were you last active?
t2 frigates is an often taken route and a good one.
Gallente are a great race.
you should use your old char ---------------------------------- if you were playing 2 or so years ago, battleships used to be uber pwnmobiles, there hardly that now. sure itll kill anything 1v1 but two or three cruisers will generally take down a battleship without any losses.
and t2 frigates are fun as hell =)
My advice: start pvping as soon as possible, dont get used to the quasi safeness of high sec, get out there and get accomponied to un safe space. ---------------------------

Thanks for the advice!
I was last active late summer of last year (long enough for my caldari char to feel the missile nerf (which in hindsight was badly needed)). My biggest concern is pulling him out of Stain and back into high/low sec for training purposes. Wouldn't surprise me to lose him in the process. In that case I believe my clone is also in 0.0. Oy this sounds bad.
How are T1 frigs for combat? And what's a good way to earn replacement cash since I'll obviously be losing ships?

Edited by: Caleb Paine on 03/09/2006 09:59:19 Yes, you should be using our old character. You're best off checking if your old char is still in his corp (some corps don't keep tabs on their playerbase) if it is, grab all your belongings and GTFO. If not try and strike a deal with the alliance who's territory you're stranded in, explaining the situation. They just might set you blue for 1-2 days for you to get your stuff out of there.
On frigates; Yes, they're quite fun BUT any decent cruiser will make mincemeat of them if you're not VERY careful. I think you're best off getting the T2 frigs but also doing (T2) cruiser skills. And yes Gallente ships work just nicely for combat.
Well you could go mining but it's not something friends tell friends they should be doing. Ratting, would do, missionrunning is an option. If you can do lvl 4 missions properly stick to those, do 1 or 2 whenever you need cash and ten go do something else.

Im guessing you mean T1 frigs here, because i know for sure that my Ishkur Assault Frig fully loaded with T2 drones and T2 equipment will absolutely destroy a cruiser, without even needing to fire any ammo!
As for the OP, defo go for gallente, master the assault frig and get your drone skills up high. Then get yourself an ishkur. Its rather different than most other assault frigs but give it some time and you'll really see why its the king of assault frigs.

Edited by: Caleb Paine on 03/09/2006 11:20:01 Yup, BECAUSE the ishkur is rather different from most other AF's it has a better chance. Still if the pilot is stupid enough to get near me he's very much dead. If you fit long range guns or use drones and stay at 10+km you'll live. Most go for shortrange hoping to get under my guns... that's where they die.

Thanks for the support guys. One thing though...I can't seem to remember my old char's login credentials. Would anyone know how to go about finding that out?
Back to the frig mastering...
I assume that group work will more than make up for a frig's shortcomings? I picture a squad of frigs/cruisers (6-10) moving through enemy territory causing major diruptions prior to main assaults, in the case of working for a major alliance. Or a small group of frigs moving through low sec sowing terror and hard feelings along their path. Is this reasonable, or is my sense of "frig's rock!" overdone?

Edited by: master bates on 04/09/2006 11:46:58 i have seen solo interceptors from the iac invade curse region to cause havoc to our enemies, and come back to tell the tale, its all about tacticcs, whilst a large gang is very good, if i were hostile to you and saw a gang of you and your merry men warp into a system i would immediately hide, and wait for backup. a solo t2 frigate - assault or intie, can be devastating provided the pilot picks the correct targets, i.e. miners/industrial ships, cruisers. and if yer like me then you would take on a solo raven in a vengeance and after killing it notice the raven had no fittings watsovever, gotta love war targets hehe
edit - as for your old character, get him logged back on , i assume you have a set of instas, sell the battleship and hop into your races tech1 variant of interceptor e.g. amarr t1 being executioner. stick a mwd on it or afterburn if you cant use mwd, and then go back to empire, with an mwd , noone will touch you if you have instas , and it will be difficult for anyone to touch you if you dont have instas unless you warp into a warp disruption field, or an interdiction sphere. good luck ----------------------------------------------- enjoy this my agent running guide Click here |
