so someone I have had no dealings with has decided to put a bounty on me. fair enough it is part of the game. I am here to ask if I will have this price on my head indefinately. I mean is it time limited or stays till it is either claimed or the person who put it there removes it? bit miffed it is is only 100k. |

It is fairly common for people to put a bounty on people "just because."
Do understand though that a bounty in no way changes any of the aggression rules or mechanics regarding someone attacking you (or vice versa). All it does is say "hey, if you blow up this person's ship you will get ~20% of his/her ship's hull value."
Beyond that... I'm a little fuzzy on whether or not there is a time restriction. I want to say three months or so... but it is better just to say that it is there until you get blown up (for whatever reason). Either way, the bounty on you is so low it can be largely ignored.
Now... you CAN get rid of it quickly. It just requires you to get a bunch of cheapo frigates or destroyers and run into a wall of weapons fire. Repeatedly. While maybe taking someone down with you. View this as an opportunity to try PvPing a bit.

Keep that attitude. It will serve you well.
Change isn't bad, but it isn't always good. Sometimes, the oldest and most simple of things can be the most elegant and effective.

Bountys are like that hair that grows in funny playces , some people have it sooner than others and beyond a certain age it's absence is strange (or deliberate).
Don't worry about it. the current mechanic will not affect your ability to do anything in game Whatsoever. though you might get slagged of for having a small one.

Bounties start to matter when they are in the tens of millions of ISK, but even then they don't matter much.
Don't think of it as a payment to get someone killed, it's instead a tip for someone that was already going to shoot you.
I know that I put bounties of 315315 ISK on miners that trashtalk my alliance's founder (James 315) just to troll them.
There is a partial time limit on bounties - if someone has not logged in in about 12 months, I've heard reports of the people that placed bounties on them getting partial refunds.

I got a bounty by one guy and his alt because we disagreed in a help channel. Some place it on newbies just to get the reaction of that pilot freaking out in chat over it.
Basically what happens is your bounty represents a pool of ISK that will pay-out 20% of the estimated insurance value of the hull you're flying should/when you get spaceship-exploded by another player(s). All those that are on the kill report will share in the amount paid out. The fact you have a bounty doesn't make you any more of a target and anyone aggressing you is still subject to the aggression mechanics (so if they decide to shoot you in high security space without you being a legit target, or flashie, they will be blown up by CONCORD). So you can have a large bounty, but if you're killed in say a hull worth 300,000 then the amount deducted from your bounty pool would be 60,000.
Any pilots who placed a bounty in the current pool on you will get notified that some bounty was claimed. They see no other "benefit", unless they are in on the kill.
Some pilots get bounties because another player is butt-hurt from an attack, or a scam, or some such. The funny thing is these pilots have suffered an ISK loss, so they spend more ISK on the person that "hurt" them, thinking it will mean something.
The bounty lasts until it is all claimed, if ever. Most of us don't pay attention to it . |

It stays with you. Each ship you lose will payout I believe somewhere near 20% to your killer. Idk, the new bounty system is horrible. Here is some documentation about this,
https://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Bounty
TL;DR, the bounty system is not really that good. If you come to aeschee low security with a battleship. I will remove it for you. |

Oh so many players ask about making bounty hunter viable profession. I can see ways that it might be possible, kind of like a one on one wardec.
But before you start throwing isk at the screen ask yourself what it would be like to be on the receiving end if someone rich decided that they really didn't like you. At the current rate they would have 5:1 advantage in doing damage to your wallet. Could a ganker in highsec put a bounty on haulers and miners just to legally destroy them?
For now, wear your bounty like a badge of honour and rest easy in the fact that if they manage to kill you they will get a little extra that will not come out of your wallet or wreckage.

Bounty hunting is indeed viable, you just need to shoot autopiloting pods in highsec, and autopiloting shuttles (then the pods).
You can cover all of the Thrashers you throw away to CONCORD, and also make enough to PLEX your account.
The other way you can do it is to look for people that are considered criminals in highsec, and work out strategies to blow up their pods.

Or their battlecruiser, for some even cruisers is better than nothing, I pay out 2-3 mil every time someone gets in on Concords KM. The rare times I use a BC, the paypout is about 10mil. You don't even have to do any damage, just lock and use any module.

Yeah pretty much anytime someone gets me popped they'll get a few tens of millions of ISK from my bounty as I often fly heavy assault cruisers (although you can only legally shoot me if you are a war target as this character is being very careful to stay highsec legal and killright free at the moment).
Still, the podkilling approach gets much bigger kills, as there are ways to blow up pods quite reliably in highsec but they are so seldom used that a moderate number of people have expensive implant sets. I do not (I'm currently using +4 learning implants and cheap hardwirings) but it's not unheard of to see Ascendancy sets, Nomad sets, Crystal sets, Slave sets or Halo sets.
Even if only one in ten clients has a billion ISK pod, and only one in ten of them has a bounty large enough to cover it, that's still a decent enough payout that indiscriminantly podding people can be profitable. (Just be aware that the -10 sec status life has its own challenges).

I have had a bounty of 1.2 billion. Recently it was cut down to half that amount due to almost a year of PVP. My gameplay experience however, has not changed one bit. I get primaried in fleets because I'm FC first, CEO second, and perhaps my bounty will affect target selection if I am alive long enough for someone to actually notice the bounty. Different folks place different values on their bounties. I know some folks absolutely freak out when they get a bounty placed on them. Personally, considering my primary activities in game, I tend to look at any bounty put on me as having performed my services at least at an adequate level. It also provides a nice bonus for the next person who sends me scampering off in my pod. |

Haha you still think that happens?
Hahahahaha
Nobody with some sanity will do that.
Lets have an alt kill me in 5 times the value of the bounty....sounds like a good idea...losing 80% of the amount in the process.
