It would be really handy to have the Jump Bridges on the map for those entities who have set you +5 or +10 as selected by the alliance. Though I imagine this would take a bit of alliance roles reworking.

Just voicing a concern: Please, be extra sure overly bright lights/nebula won't happen on the system map.
Why: It is already a constant of space life that we have to change 'camera angles' for readable text: On the system map with d-scan we don't have this luxury of selecting just any angle; there is one. It works, or it's steamrolled by background 'atmo'.
Take care.

Or, integrate the agent finder with the map. The assets window could do with inclusion as well. Hell, they could put a miniature version of the map icon after stations and systems and gates wherever they come up to show them in the map view, or you could right-click->show in map, or maybe it could go into the circular pop-up menu thingy.
A fleet view would be amazing: you would see whatever the FC (who controlled the map) saw, highlighted with whatever she wanted to highlight.
Finally, +100000 for a replacement not just for DOTLAN, but for the various wormhole mappers. It would have to be different from the other map view (maybe only 2D, to keep the lore fiends from getting too excited about positional information) but it would be so incredibly nice to not have to use the creaky in-game browser, nor to have to go to an out-of-game browser, to do the basic bookkeeping associated with WH life. The map could even auto-fill the system name and effect!

I think that with using system map in exploration more than galactic map, the work should be put on incorporating the system map, and since we have dotlan, we dont need strategic map in EVE really. Something less on your shoulders CCP, so you can focus on making 3D map blinky and shiny.

Hint : combine two good improvements, we can now decide if bookmarks in a folder show or not in the sensor overlay, would it be genuis if this functionality also applied to the solar system map, when you start scanning. bet we W-Folks will love it :)

Ideas:
I want the map to overlay the background like the autopilot star path does. So that I can pull up the map and still pilot/fly around as normal rather than just having the hud/overview on the map screen.
I want to be able to see the regions/star names by turning on the map, not by opening/loading a second window (though that is nice too). I'd also like to seemlessly be able to simply scroll out to the solar system map. As in, keeping zooming out from my ship, to the solar system, to the galaxy similar to how supreme commander handled their mapping system. |

In principle, from what I see on sisi it's a nice remaking of the map system. But I don't want to lose functionality from it either. That is what a map is for. Attractive as it is, seamless as it is, what it looks like actually is a fractal tangle of Xmas tree lights. Maybe it looks better with TQ data, but everything seems just very dim, and unspecific. I understand that's something to calibrate, accounting for occasionally extreme data.
I like it being seamless, but I'd like it more if I had two buttons to activate (f10, f11 say) - one for jumping to current system map. Because they're used for different purposes. One is (largely) navigation. One is tactical (or otherwise finding people, or their stuff). This of course not how the current map works, but it is the one utility improvement I'd ask for, so I can always deliberately open the 'right' map.
What I see as a problem in the solar system part of the map is what is (currently) missing; maybe you know this, it is a beta but it's important enough to mention. Please refer to this old system map (of nothing in particular, probe placement to demonstrate something that doesn't matter) > http://i.imgur.com/Nku8p.png < ; this shows what I need or want to see when I am using the system map;
- probe bubbles. Yes, I'm sure you know about that. - exploration sites (I also presume on the way)
- celestials - planets/moons. Yes, I care about the location of these tremendously. - bookmarks - yes I can see them in space; I can't make 20, and trim them that way without an overview; and support orientation, as well as labels for important things etc.
As the latter two are not of interest to people that only do level 4 missions I feel they're the most important to stress as important to people that play eve. These are go-to sites for combat probes in many situations. The answer of course is, like the old solar system map in allowing people to set their own level of clutter tolerance. Maybe this is on your todo list. I'd like to make sure it is. If there already is a button for that, I didn't find it, and it should be on my todo list.
There would be a gold star in it for you if you added a directional scan cone control/overlay and/or a probe group snap-to-nearest central object function. That would be awesome.
I'm not sure time is best served by remaking dotlan. Surely we already have one of those. Maybe you have ideas to extend the idea that can't be API accessed, otherwise I don't see the point.
Kind Regards,
One who actually uses the maps. |

make it functional with probing and d-scan, i.e i try too probe something down that i have used d-scan too figure out his position, say 40 degree angle near planet 3 in a safe spot but atm when i go to map mode too move my probes too that position, im no longer pointing in that direction i just worked so hard too d-scan him too. so at this point i have too try too use the map too figure where he was which can become extremely disorientating and you end up guessing which with the current map being so indecipherable and not knowing where your ship is actually pointing , a im here on the map is extremely unhelpful so..
1. so show me where my ship is pointing on the map , maybe use d-scan as a centering camera for the map so i am looking in the same place in the map as i am in space
Tech 3's need to be multi role ships not cruiser hulls with battleship tank and insane resists

Can we please have the ability to visualise jump range regardless of what ship we are in. Have an option to input a range manually. As anyone roaming may wish to know if they are in jump range of a particular system where they know someone bases capitals out of. |

Great work on new map UI there! Few things from the top of my head though: - Reset on my current position - More pronounced jump route in terms of indication. Currently with lots of lines its hard to locate one. - Funny transparency effect( feature\bug) when calling context menu on map - Width of a tree list window for color settings currently do not adjust size for content - Search capability Beyond that it is awesome! |

Well... let me label whatever systems I like, however I like with a set of icons of my choosing. (Plus automatically add mission and expedition stuff).
It'd be so much easier than typing in a system name, auto link, and set waypoint.
This is such an awesome idea.
Being able to see (via labels) Where your assets are stored. You can of course always use the asset window, for this sort of thing. but doing this with a visual represntation is very usefull.
I've often had to see what way was the shortest by using eve dotlan, by manually putting in each waypoint.

I love it. It's seamless, it's pretty, and the UI looks super easy to use.
A few suggestions: - The system names seem a bit dim right now. Maybe when you're closer to the stars make them brighter?
- The "you are here" pin and the "home" float in space when you have the systems grouped and you're looking at another region. It would be nice if these pins went to the region "ball" when you're not looking at it rather than just floating in space. Example: I don't know what region this pin is in. Lonetrek or Black Rise? http://dl.eve-files.com/media/1412/WhatRegionIsThisIn.jpg
- A compass pointing to what is universally regarded as North when you're looking at the map would be nice. I find myself flipping the map around easily and when I look around and I get a little confused.
- For us FW guys can you make a "group FW systems" similar to the group by regions/constellations. Maybe make it a check box so it can play nice with the other setups.
- Make the "select current x" more noticeable. I just randomly right clicked and saw it. A button on the map UI would be nice as well.
- Speaking of pins, they seem awfully small and easy to lose in the cluster of stars, maybe I'm being nit picky but it would be nice if they "popped" a bit more and were easier to spot.
- More severe systems being orange and less severe systems being white looks nice but I don't feel like there is enough of a range to give me enough info at a glance.
- When hovering over a star for selection, it would be nice if it "lit up" like the system names currently do when you hover over them with the mouse. I'm never sure if I'm clicking in the right spot when I click on the star itself rather than the name.
Bugs: - At the moment the number stats don't show on the systems (example "ships destroyed in last hour"). It shows a color glow on the star but no number when I click on said star.
- In abstract mode, click on system "Ealur" and "Fahruni". I get these weird lines that shoot off into nothingness. http://dl.eve-files.com/media/1412/WeirdLineBug.jpg
- When browsing in "no groups", selecting a system then wandering off, if you switch to "group by regions" it snaps back to the system. This is jarring and slightly annoying.
- When I'm looking at a system that I'm not currently in, in solar system view and switch grouping, it takes me out of solar system view.
Hope this helps! Setup my Sisi client specifically so I could check out the new map. |

As one of the apparently rare one monitor users, this looks like the first step to pure awesomeness. I love the focus on UI changes (its my main pain point with Eve, the currently UX challenged UI, I want to watch the beautiful environment, not 1000 windows), but I see constant small and now big improvements. This is really really great. |

The new 3D map looks nice. I really like the seamless zooming in/out between solar system map and universe map.
But for me personally, the 3D map is of little interest. I often plan longer routes and for that i need a 2D map with lots of statistics on sec status, jump counts etc and most importantly, it must be easy to read. So i'll stick with dotlan for now and wait for your version of a 2D map.
Some things i'd like to be implemented in the 2D map:
- Seamless zooming in/out between universe map and solar system map - Setting multiple filters at once in the universe map (e.g. show sec status, jump count and kills in last hour). The values should be displayed as numbers, not just a colour indicating a low/high value. And after setting the filters, the results should be clearly visible on every system without having to click, right-click or hover over a specific system first. Basically just like dotlan, only with multiple filters. - Solar system search function with multiple filters. (e.g. highlight systems with A: station count>0, B: ice belts>0, B: region=forge) - Ability to save routes
Not specifically about the 2D map, but hey, while i'm at it: - Ability to drag and drop bookmarks into messages/chat to easily share bookmarks with other players.

Cool stuff I could use:
- Ability to add labels to systems arbitrarily and name them.
- Ability to save long waypoint mapped routes from my autopilot and load them again when I need them.
- Extra overlay for sov status. For instance, being able to view stars colored by sec status with a sov overlay at the same time.

Going to second the question if CCP investigated the possibility of a multi-window option for those of us with monitor setups that aren't "stretch friendly"
in my case because of space restrictions I actually have my second screen above my primary (of a different resolution, no less), and since I'm an explorer by trade in eve I don't think dotlan ever leaves my secondary screen while I'm playing.
some folks also have graphics hardware or multi-monitor setups that don't play at all nicely with stretched windows, either due to driver issues or screens of differing resolutions, which makes spanning multiple monitors impossible.
I'll use my case as an example: I have a 24" 1920x1200 main monitor, with a 1650x1080 22" secondary. if I try to span across multiple windows, I am limited to the maximum vertical resolution of 1080px across both monitors, otherwise I would lose the edges of the window off the screen. in a theoretical multi-window setup, I can set the star map window to the native resolution and graphics port of my second monitor, and display it as a fixed window on that second monitor with no issue (in the way you already can when running 2 eve clients at once)
this could also be used to provide not just a star map, but a place to put all manner of information windows, like people & places, inventories, market windows. all the stuff we'd love to leave open but need to see the game properly to play. |
