Hi there,
I am a new player, and I just got my first Probe ship. I noticed that it had 10m3 space for drones, and I would like to put something in it. But what?
http://www.eve-online.com/itemdatabase/shipequipment/drones/default.asp
I am looking for something that will not require me too much skill training if possible.. Suggestions?

Edited by: Rigsta on 05/09/2006 15:32:41 Light scout drones are what you're looking for. You can fit two of them in your drone bay.
Hobgoblins have the highest damage on paper, but are the slowest.
Originally by: Jim McGregor I felt the disturbance... it was like a million voices suddenly stopped whining for a second. Unfortunantly it then continued.

The problem is that my Probe is a long range fighter (Siege, around 12km optimal range), but _all_ the fighter class drones have an optimal range of 1km.. So short range.

Not true, it should be 25 km with Scout Drones level 1, I think. -------------------

Nope, all of them have optimal range 1km and accuracy falloff of 2km.. Check the following link:

The stat your looking at is the drones optimal range, Not the maximum range the drone can travel from you. Drones have to travel to its target before enganging.

I guess I'm the only one who thought this might be a reference to some motherf drones on a motherf probe?

Edited by: Boono on 05/09/2006 18:00:54 Shadarle : Could you explain, what you said is not clear.
Karrak : There is no data on how far it can travel from you. Do you know where I can find this information?
Also, is there someone here with experience with using basic light scout drones in cambat?
I would like to know if it is worth investing the time to train drone skills?
- Do they get killed too fast? (vs small frigates 1v1, or NPC pirates in groups) - If you engage combat, then send the drones, will the ennemy keep firing at you or switch to the drones? (since they are closer to them?) - Will they stay behind if you warp? (or will they slow you down from warping because they have to dock into your ship?) - Do they get benefits from your commander skills bonus? do they count as "gang" and activate the commander bonuses for your main ship too? - I noticed drones have 1200m3 cargo space, what is this for? - Are there other possible problems or things I should know abuot drones?
Thanks

25km base+5 per scout drone operation skill.
Quote: Also, is there someone here with experience with using basic light scout drones in cambat?
Extra dps is always worth it

See above, having an empty dronebay is like having an empty slot : a waste :)
Quote: - Do they get killed too fast? (vs small frigates 1v1, or NPC pirates in groups)
In PVP, depends on the opponent's skill and experience, in pve, you just have to launch them AFTER the NPC have started shooting you

see above

If you don't scoop them back, the stay behind

no

had never noticed that, and dunno what you could do with that!

Lots of things, but I don't have to write them down here!
Thanks

This is your Drone Control Range. It's a hidden stat, It's 20km + (5km * Scout Drone Operation skill level) + (3km * Electronic Warfare Drone Operation skill level) + (20km * Number of Drone Link Augmentors fitted)

They will be left behind if you warp out with them out. They don't get gang bonuses. Their cargo space does nothing.

If you're careful, rats won't target drones. Try to make sure all the aggro is on you - no yellow targetting frames in the overview - before launching them. Once a rat is locked on, it won't swap. If it's still locking on, it might.

How do your drones aquire targets? do they lock whatever you are locking, or do they aquire targets automatically, even if you are orbitting an ennemy without attacking?
Thanks for all the information. :)
The drone cargo space is still a mystery.. What about mining drones? can they put the ore in their cargo, or do they mine it stright to your ship cargo? Could leaving the ore on the drones be a good way to get extra cargo space?

Drone cargo is used for nothing, devs were toying around with the idea of cargo drones but it didnt pan out and was scrapped. That is useless info.
Once you launch your drones lock your target, right click on your column of drones and click "engage target" you dont have a drone column because you have no drones.
train the skills up, put them in your hold and just experiment....You dont need to know everything about them before using them. ---------------------------

I guess not everyone is up on pop-culture these days. Google "Snakes on a plane" or try it on YouTube and you'll probably figure out what I meant

Definately train up your drone skills to at least the point you can train the "Drone Interfacing" skill.. It's the only weapon class besides smartbombs that are effective with all races and highly useful now that ew drones are out.. (freed up mids anyone?)
