Hi all, I'm new to the game. I bought me a caracal to do some ratting in low security regions. What I'm looking for is an addition to my ship or some advice on making a quick getaway when I see a player pirate come at me.
I figure since I'm still new in skills and my ship is missile laden I should bolt instead of challenge.
Any advice?
:)

stabs, god aweful stabs.
failing that, then keep an eye on local and keep checking your scanner, there is NO substitute for vigilance

Warp Core Stabilizers can protect you from being warp scrambled.
Nanofibers will help you align and accelerate faster for warp.
Neither one will get you away from a properly set up pirate; the best defense is to keep your eye on Local, and leave before the pirate finds you if one enters your system.

The other alternative to fitting 1 or 2 warp stabs is to fit 1 or 2 nanofibers, which will decrease the time to warp (always assuming you can reach warp velocity before they get a scram on you). It's your choice whether to fit 1 or 2 (generally a Caracal loadout has a ballistic control unit in one of the lowslots).
The tactical option is to make sure you're always within a few degrees of being warp-aligned on a destination, keep moving and steer clear of the rocks.

While fighting the NPCs, make sure you're moving at 75% of your max speed towards your chosen escape location. Whether that is a moon/safespot/gate etc.
Then watch local and Warp-Away when someone enters local if: - They are from hostile corp - Are generally hostile - Rmeain in system longer than it takes to leave it through another gate
Once you arrive at your escape location, warp again to another place, and continue to do so. If you have 2 safe-spots setup, warp continuously between them.

For me looking out to make sure pirates don't get to me and electronic warfare work the best, 1 ECM gimps my setup alot less than 2 WCS or Nanofibres although this may not aplly in the same way to a caldari player.

Ideally, sit about 40km form the rats and make sure you're aligned to a safespot or a gate or station. If another ship arrives in belt and looks suspicious, warp away.
They may still get you, so 2 WCS may help a lot. Or an Multispectral ECM is a great Get Out Of Jail Free card ;-)
