I'm interested how would veterans who played the game for years would plan their new character if they were forced to start again. I wanted to see their gameplan and how it would look like mostly to help new players like me. What would you focus on early on? What kind of career would you take? How would you make money early on? What are your priorities/goals in mind? |

I would probably focus more on mining skil... sorry.. I couldn't even get it out without laughing to the point of needing new underwear.
Next character I create from scratch im going to pick a ship and try to master it and its variants.
Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

This game offers far more than being the same worthless ant one already is in reallife.
"Careers" are actually just limited paths laid out by CCP. Thinking in terms of "mining", "exploring", "trading" etc doesn't even touch the real depth of this game.
The real fun in this game starts when you forget all the lame generic gameplay and start playing with the minds of the people. With good or bad outcome ... doesn't matter.
Study social dynamics. Engineer people. Learn to manipulate them and predict outcomes of your manipulation.
When you start doing it right money will come in eventually all by itself.

Well I wouldn't train a single mining skill, that's for sure. heh. Mining is how I started in this game, not on this character, but on several previous characters.
If my character got deleted... I'd train probing, hacking, analyzing skills and run around in a heron/imicus/magnate then upgrade to a covops and an Astero. Make money running data/relic sites while training light drones, light missiles, and get into a Worm to run combat sites and anoms. Then train medium drones and get into a Gila. Finish off drones skills with heavies and sentries and get an Ishtar and maybe a Stratios for the hell of it. And of course be working on all those boring core skills and taking skills during this whole process.
TL;DR exploration. drones. |

I would pick a race I haven't flown yet (minmatar) then max out support skills and t2 fits for cruisers and frigates. While doing this I'd probably join rvb so I can get a feel for the unfamiliar race. |

Let me start by saying I wouldn't. If lost all progress in EVE I'd walk away.
Setting that aside, I'd pretty much duplicate what I have now.
All guns up to Capital are spec trained to 4,
Amarr and Minmatar up to Battleship 5,
T2 Frigate, cruiser and BS sub classes are 4, Command Ship 4.
All support are 5.

I would run the tutorial stuff for cash, the Sisters epic arc and do missions until I got t2 tank, t2 (light at least) drones, t2 guns in that order.
I would avoid anything whatever to do with mining or even much industry. I would actively try to learn the aggression rules to avoid being much of a victim/target.
This time I would avoid jumping into my new Raven 2.5 minutes after training up Caldari Battleship one. I would avoid any Hi-sec corp that doesn't have a strong, or at least active, pvp arm.
As I progressed I might start working toward Incursion starter ships/fits, do Incursions for good isk, assuming you can find a group that helps Inc n00bs while working on other, more pvp related skills. 'Specially scanning and probing stuff.
At that point I might start looking for an active Wormhole Corp. Maybe I would join RvB in the interim or Faction Warfare.
But that's just me.

Not sure I would start again tbh.
The early game may have had it's faults, but it's raw nature back then was quite appealing. It also had a heart, I feel has been made smaller of late.

I have a permanent link to it on my desktop here at work, and I refer to it constantly when I make a pun (loud speakers FTW!).
I get flagged by IT every single time they do a sweep because of the name though....

Forced to start over? I wouldn't.
Strange glitch in space and time?
I would not have 'jack of all trades' skilled. At least, not at first. Probably would skip PI altogether.
I also wouldn't have skipped the progression from small ships to big ships. I would have focused on flying the small ships and getting all those skills up to 4 / 5. Then, training for larger ships would require much less. Core skills completely rather than just enough, faction favored tanking, faction favored weapon systems. Although, I'd still max out my drones.
I would have visited Syndicate much sooner and probably stayed longer.
No sig here.

I've started over many different times.
My first character was Amarr,
Kirst was my second. He originally was to be a miner, but I switched skills, sold the Amarian, and made him a mission runner.
After a while, I started a second runner, brought her up thru all the skills, and today we are practically equals. I am more missile focused, and she is hybrid. Both of us run are very capable of running every L4 very easily. If there's a mission or two that I don't want to run, I'll switch over to her to see what's she's offered.
Soon, I started a 3rd runner, hoping to focus on exploration. He's got about 21m sp. Exploration in high sec hasn't been good
I have 51m+ sp, the gal has about 46m.
I'm spread out over various planets, so I'm able to change pilots and vary what I want to do.
I'm thinking of selling my last guy, and starting a 5th character. I haven't kept up with all the new changes, maybe that new character will teach me something.
When you bring a character up to run L4's, you have to go thru the processes of running missions to get your standings up to run the next level. And that also means all the necessary skills.
So it has been fun to do that, and I'm thinking I'm getting bored enough to do it again.

I'd be exactly where I am right now, only flying a Rifter in pvp instead of a Domi or Ishtar. To make money: within a day, I'd be using a Catalyst to loot and salvage behind all of the carrier ratters. |

Why would you stop using a rifter, just because you have more choices? That doesn't mean not using any other choice besides the rifter, of course.
It just reads as if you stopped using the rifter completely. |
