Why would you stop using a rifter, just because you have more choices? That doesn't mean not using any other choice besides the rifter, of course.
It just reads as if you stopped using the rifter completely.
I did stop flying Rifters altogether when I stopped messing with Faction Warfare. Jaguar too strong. |

I'm in the process of doing this right now with this new toon.
I've been playing since 2007 but had to quit due to mad work commitments.
I can only play occasionally and I find corporate life too restrictive so I tend to work on my own (no alts) and do the things that I wished that I had done years ago.

Ok, so because I've really started enjoying exploration of late, I'd focus on my exploration stuff.
I'd start out by training the basic fitting skills, and I wouldn't make the mistake I initially made in Eve of rushing up the ship sizes without the appropriate skills to fit said ships. As well as the fitting skills, I'd be training Astrometrics, Archaeology and Hacking. Once I could comfortably fit a frigate with t2 stuff, and have all those exploration skills to 4 (3 for Hacking), I'd start to train for a cruiser sized hull, and Astrometric Rangefinding and Pinpointing. The ship would probably a Vexor because I like drones, and it fits really well for exploring.
That's pretty much the basics. I'd completely ignore mining this time around.

If I had to start over from scratch (I've done it in the past), I would immediately hook up with my friends' corp., and then proceed to train for a mixture of:
- The ships and skills they may need me to train in order to complement their squad.
- I like exploration and support roles, so I'd also work towards cov-ops, recons, interdictors, heavy interdictors, and logistics (remote repair / healer ships).
I always train good support skills (Armor, Shield, Navigation, Engineering, Targeting, Electronic Systems) and Weaponry skills (Gunnery, Drones) as I progress with the ship skills, so I usually pick a rounded attribute remap (with max Per and Int) so that I can train whatever's needed at any point in time. Implants are somewhat iffy in PVP because you lose them if you get podded, so I'd forget about them until I was rich enough to afford losing a few.
For making money to afford all this stuff, I have a RL job and not that much time to play, so rather than grind missions / rats (npc pirates) and exploration sites in-game, I'd probably buy PLEX'es here and there and sell them on the market for ISK. Basically, I can make $20 in RL (for a PLEX) faster than I can make 800 million credits in-game, so I'll do that, within reason. |

I might actually come up with a focused plan for skill training, rather than approaching it like a fat kid at the buffet. I wouldn't bother with science and industry this time around... not that it's bad, just not my thing. I'd seek out a pvp corp to join as soon as possible, ideally by spending my first 50 million on a wardec against them and dying gloriously in a fire repeatedly. Rather than spending years in a tiny corp doing things that as it turned out were not all that much fun. This is probably my biggest regret in EVE, as I robbed myself of so much real entertainment this way. |

What are your priorities/goals in mind? I'd get multiple accounts right away, at least two, prolly three. In retrospect, my biggest 'mistake' back when I was a nub was that I was making my first two 'mains' into 'allround' chars. I'd differentiate from the start now.
For making isk: getting a main trading char trained up asap and getting a main to be able to run lvl 4 missions asap, not that running lvl 4's is the best way to make isk but it's easy, accesible and the income isn't bad. I would not touch mining or industry with a ten foot pole anymore. Third account would be training towards support, training for hauling in blockade runners, Orca's and freighters, fleet boosting, remote repping etc etc. |

I think I'd limit myself to one or two races' lines of ships (Gallente+Caldari=Guristas) instead of training for every subcap under the sun. I am seeing so much "wasted" SP right now. |
