I've been considering starting a manufacturing character. The problem is that I have absolutely no clue where to begin. I am hoping that I can get to a point where I can afford a plex every month off him to pay for the second account and some left over isk to bank. I have a start up fund saved up of 1 billion isk.
My question is where do I begin? Which skills are the most important? Can a new character compete in manufacturing these days? Should I even bother with BPOs still in circulation?
Thanks for your time. |

Yes, you can compete.
Start with market research. What sells in large enough quantites whereever you are that you can make a profit making and selling it. You need to figure that one out yourself, no one's going to give their prize info away. Spend some time looking at the market (and using tools like Fuzzworks.co.uk ) and see what has a good enough profit margin on it.
Don't start with ships.
If you're doing T1 industry, then Industry, Mass Production and the trade skills are important starts. Grab some science skills if you want to research your own BPOs, but to be honest, easiest start is by buying BPCs off contract, means you don't need to invest the time and ISK up front in a BPO. Buy the BPO when you're sure it's a good investment, |

You're going to need to read, read, and read some more. The Eve Production Manager User Guide has a lot of content generally relevant to producers of any size. I have a subscriber who started with a bankroll much smaller than yours who cleared a billion isk his third month, so yes it's completely possible to meet your objectives. And I disagree with the assertion that ships are a dead end to the new producer, as for some silly reason certain cruisers are isk printing machines.

I try to be helpful, and I don't claim to know everything. However, I do claim that whatever the topic is (especially industry related), chances are I've posted about it a LOT.

Went to the Science & Industry link at the top of this section and the EVELopedia link is broken. I was about to ask the same question as the op. The comments so far have been VERY helpful.
Is anyone familiar with EVE IPH Industry Calculator? If so, what are your thoughts on it? |

T1 is more profitable than people think. Rigs are good business.
As the above poster said, market knowledge is half the battle. A good builder is also a trader.
Learn to pull API information. At least XML. CREST if you're tech savvy. Learn Google Sheets.
More important than skills is location and set up. Try to get to a point where you can work out of a POS. |
