I was just wondering if anyone out there has been playing in tournaments and has established any sort of metagame, as in what decks are winning and what decks beat what decks....In most CCGs there are usually 3-4 constructed decks that can hold their own and beat each other up so I was just wondering what has been winning in anyones local tourneys?? Is there possibly a broken dominant deck out there that anyone has dicovered?? Also if your in the Chicagoland area check out Collecta-card-and-comics where we are starting up EVE play. We at CGE want to get the ball rolling for this game and can't wait to see the EVE players out in full force!!

I don't think there's really any environments large enough for a true metagame to emerge yet, however in our group (6 players) the following decks are the mostly dominant ones at the moment:
Minmatar Ship Control/Military Amarr Turbo Reclamation Tower Amarr Region Control/Military Gallente Location Destruction/Military Gallente Permalost Deliveries Caldari Discard/Bellicose Recursion
And these are the decks that had been played but have essentially left the scene due to everyone knowing how to beat them and certain meta choices and/or deckbuilding styles being played:
Minmatar Blitz Caldari Blitz (Anyone) Destroyer Rush (Anyone) Straight-up military decks
Basically the pattern we're seeing is that, as usual with new CCGs, the initial rush of easy to play blitz decks are overtaken by the more stable and balanced decks, and the control decks. However, the meta in Eve is different to most games, in that many decks are very similar; ships are ships for any deck, and hence meta is a funny thing because you only tend to be meta'ing specifically against half (or less) of an opponent's deck. I wouldn't call the meta in this game as important (or as effective) as simply having a flexible and solid deck, and being a better player, in most cases.
And finally, yes, there is a broken dominant deck around at the moment; it almost can't lose unless your opponent is playing Amarr with 4x Exiled, 4x Damage Control, 4x Mind Control, and even then it's dodgy. I'm not sharing that one, though :)

It was a 40 card minimum decksize tournament (afaik) and people had limited cardpools, so the decklists won't be of much use for anything more than casual interest, really.

Check out this link.
You'll need MS Access, OpenOfficeOrg, or some other database program to view it.

Actually, it will help clarify the "obvious strategies" that all decks need to take into account. The whole "oh yeah, duh, I forgot to think about a second-turn Adastar's Disaster" or "it might not be a bad idea to include a couple ways to raise my starbase shields..." -------------------------- Just here for the CCG. :) |

If anyone is inexperienced enough to not realise that themselves, then likely reading a decklist (particularly a 40 card one built with the aforementioned limited card pool) won't help. There's really no substitute for play experience.

I dunno, I played all the way through the tournament, and a bit at home, and still haven't seen a Rush deck tried. -------------------------- Just here for the CCG. :) |
