Hello everyone !
As I was cruising through very very hisec sectors to my PVE lvl2 mission zone, I emerged from a jump gate almost into the waiting arms of something called "Circadian Seeker" (something like that, cruiser size I think). As it was red on my overview and there were several of them, I fled without looking back (they also serve who warp away).
Then I googled a bit and got somewhat confused by what I read. Sleepers ? Some sort of NPC advanced race that lives in wormholes ? There seems to be quite some active excitement on the forums but I'm too freshly arrived to understand what the buzz is all about. Especially since it's often written in-character assuming one is familiar with all the lore.
So, questions:
- are those "circadians" actually hostile ? I didn't stay long enough to assess that, better fly off with my ship intact than being scrammed and torn to pieces. - what are they doing out of their wormholes and orbiting a gate in hisec ? Will Concord or local NPC militia blast them away ? - should I have engaged them ? Can I take them on with my very very limited combat skills ? Is there valuable loot to be found ?
Thanks in advance for any answers or pointers to (actualized) reading material that would enlighten me.
Best, Carl
PS: rejoice with me ! I have just passed the ONE MILLION skill points mark ! I feel I can take on the universe...

That Circadian stuff is quite interesting. You may spot them scanning your ship or other stuff in high sec as well. No one knows yet really what they are doing so it is all speculation atm. It could be to do with Thera, the new shattered wormholes, and 'Caroline' (The large green 'smudge' visible on the horizon in most systems.) or possibly a prelude to capsuleers being able to construct their own stargates in null-sec.
The Circadian ships are not a threat to you atm and if attacked they will drop little or no loot to speak of. There are also 'Unidentified sites' sprouting in various systems in high sec with Jovian structures and other asteroid type structures that are semi-visible to the eye.
In short you will have to wait and see like the rest of us.

Carl Thespy wrote:- are those "circadians" actually hostile ? I didn't stay long enough to assess that, better fly off with my ship intact than being scrammed and torn to pieces. Lore-wise: Unknown. They seem to be searching for something... or assessing us.
Mechanics-wise: They are safe as milk. The worst they will do is "scan" and/or bump you.
Carl Thespy wrote:- what are they doing out of their wormholes and orbiting a gate in hisec ? Will Concord or local NPC militia blast them away ? Lore-wise: Unknown. CONCORD and the NPC Empires are employing the "wait and see" method.
Mechanics-wise: It is a possible future Role Playing event and/or game expansion... the DEVs are trying to drum up support and intrigue ahead of time.
And CONCORD and the Faction Police/Militia are specific to capsuleers and don't really care about other NPCs.
Carl Thespy wrote:- should I have engaged them ? Can I take them on with my very very limited combat skills ? Is there valuable loot to be found ? You could have. Circadian Sleepers won't shoot back (they have no weapons). There is no loot to be gained from them. Or salvage.
Btw... if you are scared about engaging something insure your ship at a station (Platinum level) and then try it. Insurance will give you back ~70% of the value of your ship (excluding mods).
Also... in my humble opinion... the sooner you get used to the idea that your ship WILL explode at some point in the future, the easier time you will have in EVE in the long run. Everything in EVE is an expendable tool. Your ship is no exception.
Change isn't bad, but it isn't always good. Sometimes, the oldest and most simple of things can be the most elegant and effective.

Oh definitely. I just want to make sure I can survive juuust long enough to understand what is happening and learn a tiny bit of something from the experience. NPCs are so very quiet in Local, no matter how many 'gf' you send their way, they never tell you their fit, their tactics or what you should have done to have a fighting chance.
Thanks again, fly safe ! Carl

Yep, they just love throwing spanners in the works to keep us on our toes, and then watch to see what we do with the spanners.
They're often surprised/scared to see what we get up to with the mechanics and tools they give us to play with.
Sleepers on the whole are nasty to mess with, the Circadian Seekers aren't aggressive at the moment but the fact that they're A: in highsec, and B: scan people suggests to me that they are an advance scouting party assessing the capabilities of the 4 Empires to repel a sleeper invasion.

Probably not. Thanks for the info. I'm looking forward to seeing where this goes. To the OP, I'm happy to see you coming here asking when you don't know. Too many new players don't do that, then end up getting lost and giving up. Keep it up. If you don't know, ask. I still learn new things now and again.

That would be strange. So far, to my knowledge, CCP has adhered to a strict "No podding"-policy concerning NPCs.

Could it simply be a case of collateral damage ? There are area-of-effect weapons in Eve, right ?
Oh, BTW, question : can exploding ships/structures damage surrounding objects ?
Thx, Carl

- Smartbombs: not "smart"... sends out a omni-drectional "pulse" that damages everything and anything within a 5 to 7000 meter radius from the ship. Try not to use in high-sec.
- Bombs: can only be launched from Stealth Bombers... and only in 0.0 or lower space. Flies 30km in the direction the launching ship is heading and deals a massive 10km ball of damage. If you have enough people in Stealth Bombers doing the same thing you can nuke 100+ man fleets.
Carl Thespy wrote:Oh, BTW, question : can exploding ships/structures damage surrounding objects ? Exploding structures doing damage... sometimes. It is usually a mission related thing so do not be too concerned.
Exploding ships doing damage... no. This would be laughably abused if it was a thing.

As killmails still ain't allowed here..I can just confirm that I saw killmails from Sisi where the seeker actually shot missiles and killed a pod that way.
No fancy glitch or AoE weapon or what so ever.

That was because pods actually had a cost. Hopefully NPC's will start to pod you if you decide to just AFK and manage to get popped leaving your pod in space for an extended period of time. |

To reassure you a bit, while the Seekers do seem to pod on Sisi, they do it slowly. The damage they do to pods is tiny, takes them roughly 2 minutes to pop your pod. So seems to be more a danger to AFK players. So far, they don't seem to scram your pods, allowing you to warp away at any time.
Right now (as posted above) it's unknown whether this podding is a feature or bug. Currently, not much is known about m, CCP is very tight lipped about the Seekers & the Unidentified Structures associated with them.
I ran a publication on them: 'Strange structures and mysterious Sleepers appear all over New Eden!' Do note, despite great effort from the community, not much has been revealed. If more info is revealed about it in a confirmed manner, either through the community or CCP, I'll publish about it on my news-site. So if you're interested in what it all means, keep checking in once in a while

Ignore what I wrote previously and read the following blogsite:
http://aurora-arcology.blogspot.be/
Sounds like there have been unsubstantiated reports of capsuleers being podded and of capsuleers being followed through warp if they don't leave a system where the Circadians have spawned....... Very interesting.
