Okey so i don't get these 2 little guys. The Jaguar is a shield tanker, the Wolf is an armor tanker. The wolf has a huge resistance hole, and there's no easy way of closing that. I can see how the wolf can still be effective in pvp, but for pve it seems somewhat limited to EM/thermal rats. At the same time I see a lot of people saying the Jag is a little pvp monster.
So where does the Wolf stand? I think the Wolf has very nice dps for 0.0 ratting. In that area it will probably do better then a Jag. But then again a Jag doesnt suffer from 'tanking' problems, in fact it does the opposite with it's nice allround shields.
In short; which ship for which purpose? pve/pvp & solo/gang. I've read the setup threads, but I'd still like some expert opinions.

Don't bother NPCing in minmatar AF's, they use too much ammo.

If you want to be practicle you wont use AFs for NPCs at all except as a tank in some complexes. They dont do lvl 3s as fast as BCs and they are not as good in 0.0 belt rarring as battleships.
Wherever you went - here you are.

Edited by: Wilfan Ret''nub on 17/09/2006 16:45:04 If you want a fun Minnie ship for NPCing, get into a Typhoon. It's also good in the ISK/hour department.
Wolf is best as Blood/Sansha faction spawn hunter. But Retribution is better, and so is probably Ishkur.
Jaguar is decent for Minmatar COSMOS, as rats there deal all 4 damage types pretty evenly. Problem is, Minmatar COSMOS gives crappy rewards. The other problem is Jag's DPS. I once couldn't break Thukker BS's tank, no matter how I set it up. ------ No ISK, no fun |

Edited by: Kyuzo on 18/09/2006 04:21:36 The jag is a allrounder... very good for solo operations... a little bit less useful in group situations.... since there is no specialisation... the jag can do a bit of everything, but in a group there is almost another ship that can do it better...
the jag 'can' tackle... the jag 'can' DPS... the jag 'can' tank ...
the bonus of the jag.. is that it can do ALL these things simultanously and effectively.... but it will never be the best at any of those things... and there are ships better suited to those jobs...
The wolf is on the other hand an amazing DPS gunboat... it has amazing specialisation with ACs ... the jaguar cannot compete with a wolf for damage output.... The tank on a wolf isnt particularly amazing... but there is still room to set it up a respectable passive shield tank (with shield power relays) or an armour tank... and allow it to take a few hits...
The wolf is only really effective at one thing... dealing out damage... its tank and tackling ability are gimped... but the wolf can still set up a respective shield/armour tank to still have enough survivability to be more than effective DPSer..
both are very good ships :)

I was thinking about Wolf for 0.0 ratting Sansha's. But i guess that's quite the investment ammo-wise :) Other then that i couldnt come up with any other pve purposes for the Wolf.
Jag doesnt seem to be my thing.. Rather have a ship that excels in one field then one that does average on all. Anyway thanks for those who replied, cleared some stuff up for me

Edited by: Aleis on 18/09/2006 17:15:17 One set up i have used for some cosmos mission with the jag thats funis
3x 280mm II AB, Sensor booster, tracking computer (shield booster) 3x Gyro II's
add Tremor ammo and you get an optimal of 42km and and a damage mod of i think 17x (15x) not logged in right now. and i can't remember. nice with Cosmos in groups as it can take out any frigate in about 2-3 vollies from any where, and handles cruisers easily as well.
Only propblem is you'll be reloading constantly with only a 10 round clip.
use the shield booster for the few shots that get through but your tank is mantaining distence

I love my Wolf for ratting Sansha spawns in 0.0, it's my money maker. I rarely ever see myself go into armor. Sure, it chews through ammo fast, but ammo is cheap and plentiful at the nearby outpost and it loves to tear apart triple 800K BS spawns like cake.
The Jag is my preffered PvP ship though. Well, aside from the Vagabond, that it, but I love the passive tank and the tackle of the Jag. Jag does very nicely. __________ Your wife's B!tch Slap strikes you perfectly, wrecking for a lifetime of pain and misery... |

Jag = passive tank.
3x 150mm II, rocket ---------------------------------------- AB(I *think* you can squeeze an MWD on with best/named mods), dual best named med extender, warp disrupt ---------------------------------------- MAPC, Gyro, PDU/Nano/SPR
CFW (Certified Forum Warrior) I kill people ingame too. |

I bought a Wolf specifically for running L3's in Amarr space because I was bored with my Prophecy. It's a fantastically fun ship vs. Sanshas/Raiders, plus it's easy to fit with a perma-running armour tank/AB.
Still, it's a lot of work at best to take on non-Amarr faction rats......and yes, the ammo for 0.0 ratting would mount up fast. |
