As many of you are aware, today's downtime has been unexpectedly extended due to issues with a hotfix deployment. We apologise for this issue and I can assure you that every effort is being made to get things back up and running again.
Please keep all of your replies on this subject in this thread and remember to stay on-topic, constructive and avoid trolling/flaming.
I will update this post with more information as it is received.
Update - 19/09/2006 13:52 GMT
The server has now come back up however it is experiencing quite a load as thousands of people log in after downtime. Please be patient while things settle down.

fine I'll repost here !
Its communication.
If I'd known hot fixes were being depolyed in downtime i would have left a long skill training (7 day Skill training) Instead of timing one to end shortly after DT.
I swear it wasn't on the login page when I logged in. If you are gonna do emergency hotfixes a little warning would be appreciated. as you guys constantly mention " Mr Murphy" Always has a play in things. Obviously Im in the same boat as alot of other people. But the Blow could have been lessened if we knew you were doing it in the first place.

Ah well
CCP have earlier said that they apply unannounced hotfixes almost every day, so this doesn't surprise me at all. This line is a signature, not part of the message. |

Some rough indication would also be useful...
While waiting for the server to come back up, should I:
Go make a coffee downstairs Go into town and buy a coffee Go into town and buy several beers and play pool for a bit Play Oblivion "just for five minutes" Download [some competing MMORPG] to see if it's really as bad as this forum would have it
?
For some reason, using the image as the link doesn't work... |

Thats highly debatable. My systems still loading aparently. And they should provide you with some warning, I mean they used to so why dont they any more?

Now the server is up it seems the lag is insane. Market not working, fitting modules to ships, activating ships etc seems to take a while. possibly because of the amount of people logging in at the same time, possibly because even though the server is up it's not right.. Oh well, hopefully it'll be sorted fairly soon.

I think you can take two things away from the occurances of today;
1) A bit more notification when hotfixes are being deployed so that people are more aware there may be issues. Maybe you could include this in the ingame downtime notifications.
2) Due to the events of tonight most people who live on or around the +10 GMT timezone have lost most, if not all , of their gaming time. Is it possible to come up with some sort of floating downtime timing as opposed to the rigid timing that exist atm. This will be fairer for ALL gamers, not just those in the sweet spots.
Thanks and good luck

The reason for the town time being when it is, is the fact if anything goes wrong at that point of the day all the devs will be around to help get it running again.
If it is at another point in the day it could take much longer to get the server running again.
Not to mention the addtional cost of staff if they are having to work during the night, to have the DT at the middle of the day in the country the server is located is a good thing.
