I hear a lot of people casually mentioning 'Hey, wouldn't more destroyers be cool?' and though Interdictors are nice, I was thinking about beefing up the Tech 1 stuff. Maybe adding in some new Tech 2 stuff.
Destroyers are gunboats, yes, but in a lot of games/reality they have multiple uses. Flamers, I know already that EVE Balancing > Real Life Physics, but please, they're just ideas and brainstorming. :)

In naval terminology, a destroyer is a fast and maneuverable yet long-endurance warship intended to escort larger vessels in a fleet or battle group and defend them against smaller, short-range attackers (originally torpedo boats, later submarines and aircraft).
Alright. So far our destroyers are the good escorts, but they really don't qualify for Long Enduring, and they certainly wouldn't help very much against our EVE version of Submarines, our Stealth Bombers. Not that our stealth bombers are anything to fear, but I digress, that's a topic others have already covered.
What if there was a second tier of each tech level of destroyer? The first tech could qualify for a tough, rigid gunboat with, perhaps, ship boni that gave them extra defense, or a smaller sig radius, more speed, et cetera.
The second tech could be a ship bristling with sensors, for flushing out stealthed ships and the like. I dunno. Bring more ideas to the table.

I like Interdictors as they are, they could have some increase in PG and CPU (don't know since I can't fly them yet). They fill out their role nicly atleast.

Well they're good at interdicting warp, yes. They're perfectly fine. :) But a twin to each one meant to knock ships out of stealth would be pretty cool, too. Just another way of interdicting. And I'm more looking at the Tech 1 stuff, cause except as a cheap 'glass cannon' they aren't use very often. Which is a shame. :/

Heh, I would prefere to keep CCP working on lagg and the new BCs/BSes.
And the ability to bust Cloaks (atleast T2 version) is to powerfull for a T1 ship. T2 could be good tho.

Tech I destroyers need to be able to tank better, right now they die easily to anything that they can't kill with one volly. If this means we have to lose a turret hardpoint for balance's sake, so be it, six guns is plenty for a small ship. A cloak busting tech II destroyer would also be very hot, currently there is very little you can do versus a patient cloaker.

Hmmm. Tech 2, tier 2 being a stealth buster. Give it less firepower than the first tier, inability to equip interdiction sphere launchers, and make a different kind of module it has a bonus to equipping?
Maybe extends the 2km stealth-busting aura out to 10km, even further with more skills?
The tech 1-tier 2 destroyer could be more of a logistics/frigate popper combo compared to the first. Maybe 4-5 turrets, and give it some bonuses to remote repairing, or sensor links, stuff like that? There have been a lot of threads about it - one of which I remember was creating an anti-BS ship out of the destroyer line =P
A speedy t1 destroyer that could launch torpedo's (and tank nothing). A torpedo bomber... ---

Well Destroyers, in real life originally, were designed to use torpedoes after they realised 'Hey, instead of having torpedo boats and anti-torpedo boats, lets just roll them into one!'... But that as a Tech 1 ship would be terrifying indeed. Instead of interdictors, make a seperate category of ships and put the little Stealth Bombers there too... Frigate sized stealth bombers with cruise missiles, and the destroyer sized ones with torpedoes?
Oooh. What about a class of destroyers designed to work in tandem with Defender missiles? Give Stealth Bombers torpedoes, and the anti-stealth destroyers could have bonuses with Defender missiles, with special launchers so they don't suck, and maybe can one-shot torpedoes? -------------------------------------------- You will also find that training other race skills will open up a new style of gameplay.
