I am going through the basic tutorials right now, just trying to learn the game. I haven't died yet or had my Merlin blow up yet. But I have a question about dying. . .I'm sure it will happen soon enough.
I remember reading about cloning in this game before I started playing, but I have not had the topic come up since I started the tutorials. Aren't I suppsoed to continuely keep my clone updated with the skills I am learning? I read when you die you get permenant amnesia if you don't keep your clones updated with the skills you have learned.
How do I find my clone? When I find him, how do I keep his skills up to date with mine. I would be friggn ticked if I lose any of my skill knowledge.

This was changed in the latest update - you no longer update your clone to keep skillpoints in the inevitable occasion of your characters demise, as death doesn't lose skillpoints. As to how you find your clone - you are "in" it when you are playing eve. The clone is an instance of your player character.
You can have multipe "jump clones" you can switch between later on. |

That was an old mechanic that CCP took out of the game.
You USED to keep your clone updated with the amount of skillpoints you had. And on pod-death you had to rebuy the clone. If you got killed in a insufficient clone, you lost some SP.
But CCP saw that it was preventing some people using their character in less friendly situations cause their clone update was actually way more expensive then their ships they lost.
So they took that situation out of the game. Now, unless you fly a T3, you will never lose skillpoints.

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

... and actually implemented: Patch Notes for Rhea 1.0, released December 9th, 2014.
Patch Notes for Rhea 1.0 wrote:Gameplay * The skill point loss incurred on clone death has been removed (exception being T3 cruiser death penalty) along with the requirement to keep your clone up to date with a relevant clone grade * The default clone that you are issued after death is free and sufficient to protect your skills on death * You no longer have the option of purchasing higher clone grades * Consequently the clone upgrade discount for upgraded Factional Warfare systems has been removed |
