Edited by: Endaros on 24/09/2006 13:06:00 I've been training the learning skills since I started playing EVE, and I now have all the learning skills at 5 and advanced learning skills at 4 (apart from charisma, which the basic is at 4).
I have Learning IV, but I'm wondering if it is worth training up to level 5. At present I have attributes:
Intelligence: 19 Memory: 19 Charisma: 15 Perception: 23 Willpower: 23
I also have a head of +3s in (to get the base atts, just take 3 from all the above atts). Will training level 5 in Learning actually make a difference? And if so, how much? In terms of attributes and/or seconds per minute saved or whatever.
As you may have guessed, I set my attributes up for a gallante PvP character, hence the high perc and will. But now I want to get on and train for cruisers etc, but want to know whether it's worth waiting another 5 days for learning.
Thanks in advance for your replies!

*EDIT* I know a lot about this game already, I'm not an alt despite having an exclaimation mark by my name. How can I sort this out also? Petition it?

Ok, so your true effective attributes are right now:
Intelligence: 19.44 Memory: 19.44 Charisma: 15.12 Perception: 23.76 Willpower: 23.76
Training learning L5 will make them then:
Intelligence: 19.8 Memory: 19.8 Charisma: 15.4 Perception: 24.2 Willpower: 24.2
Actual time "saved" after training it ? Exactly 1.85% Well, that and the ego boost of getting a visible +1 increase in P/W. So, you need 54 times more "time spent training something" than you need to train learning L5 to break even from it. More precisely, with your aprox. 42k SP per day, you need 5.018 days to train it, and need 271 days to break even. Well, 276 actually, including time spent training L5.
So, unless you plan to stick around for 276+ days, don't train L5 learning. __ Always question everything. Including yourself. |

Learning V will make you train your skills 2% faster.
Is it worth training? i guess it all depends on how long you plan on playing this game.
I do not know your exact training time time but assuming it is 5days even, it will take you 5days/.02 or 250 days of training skills before you regain the 5 day head start that you would have had if you didn't train the Learning V
So bottom line, if you plan to play for longer than 250ish days then train it. Otherwise no.

2% than the BASE. But only 1.10/1.08 -> 1.85185...185(185)% faster as Learning L4. Not much of a difference, but it matters a bit ;)
End result is an *54 of time needed to train L4->L5 to start "breaking even" after you train it, so a *55 total time including time actually needed to train it. __ Always question everything. Including yourself. |

As a sidenote, training the advanced learning skills from 3->4 has about the same "payoff time" as learning 5.

Advance to 4 is really easy, the only pain is getting that basic from 4 to 5. So for someone not super into learning, your intelligent choices are stay at basic 4, or go up to advanced 4. I am pretty sure the extra 5 skillpoints would pay off sooner than a year going from basic4 to advanced 4, but I don't want to do the math right now.

I have advanced lvl 4 and learning 5.
Worth it? I calculated that it will take me about 200 days to get the time back.
Will I play that long? Probably. IF I play that long, will I look back and say (wtf, why didnt I train it)?
Yes. Train it.

It would of course depend on what skills he is actually training. Training a skill requiring Perc/Will attributes (as opposed to Int/Mem) would take 227 days (including the 5 for Learning V) to make it worthwhile - nearly 2 months less.
