I am using Beam Lasers and Tachyons on my Apocalypse for NPC-ratting since 2003. Everything works fine as expected. Yesterday, I got my hands an an Armageddon. Hearing good things about the dreaded Pulsegeddon, I equipped it with 6 Mega Pulse Lasers (My skills with them are on the same level as they are with Beams).
But after warping to a belt in 0.0 and finding a nice spawn, I was a bit dissapointed. The reasons were the following:
1. Less damage per hit. OK, seems logical. Pulses do less damage, but have a better ROF.
2. I have to get closer. Thats OK. Therefore I should get more DPS.
3. I can't hit the broad side of a barn. Here I got confused. Although the tracking on the Pulses is much better than the Beams, I hit far less. At longer Range, its no problem. But with Multifrequency Crystals fitted, my optimal is around 14k. And there, my tracking gets messed up.
ALL skills that influence the tracking of guns are at level 4 or 5.
Any ideas?

Edited by: Adrian Kerensky on 25/09/2006 09:36:46 You need a web or target painter.
For ratting I used to use:
7x megapulse ab, cap recharger, web large rep, 3x rat specific hardeners, 3x heatsink, cpr
5x rat specific heavy drones
For pvp it's just awesome (different setup ofc).

huh? its your skills, i've npc'ed in a geddon for years, and had no problems with a pulse geddon, in fact ive never used beams or tachs.
they hit fine, i cant really see where u have a problem, but yeah a web would help, but dont bother using a painter, its a waste of your 3 meds :/

I love pairing megapulses with tracking computers, especially faction ones. They boost both your optimal range and tracking speed. A couple of Shadow Serpentis tracking computers will give you megabeam optimal with the tracking speed of cruiser guns.

Tracking issues dont really exist if you shoot people from tach ranges.
But they do exist with puses due to closeness of enemies - add in sig radius and boom - you cant shoot much at all :) --- Slot 10 Akemons Modified 'Noble'Zet 5000 implant +8% Armour FREE |

Hmm , i dont see how your guns dont hit :s
Im using an arma to rat in 0.0 and never had that problem ,but when you want to hit cruisers you need to get them lined up behind you so they dont do to much transversal . Just fly away from the cruisers with ab on and you dont need a webber . And use drones to kill of frigs

Here's a tip - don't aim at frigates or cruisers with your battleship sized guns. If you do you can surely expect to miss a LOT more often.
OK so you can shoot cruisers with it but I'd suggest using standard ammo or infrared to do that as your optimal will be increased. You don't need to use multifreq all the time.
I use my drones to kills cruisers/frigs and my guns are strictly anti-BS when I rat in my armageddon. a Tracking computer helps a bit too but other than that - two cap rechargers. ---
