Hey all! o/ So here I sit, listening to my friend tell me that he just bought a bunch of small projectile ammo, in the Proton, Carbonized Lead, Fusion, and EMP varieties. I was about to tell him how Proton and Carbonized Lead are both terrible, but then it occurred to me that people might actually use those varieties.
So my question to you is, what variety of ammo of any type or size do you prefer, and why?

Treason never prospers. What is the reason?
Why, if it prospers, none dare call it "treason."

The kind you carry in a drone bay. Because...drones.

depends on the use tbh. with autocannons it seems like you might as well only use the high damage ammos and barrage, but with artys it might make sense to bring some longer range ammos inbetween.
I usually use high t1 faction ammo, and in most cases some t2 ammo of both kinds.
I'll join the chorus asking CCP, don't take my fancy names away from me!

Back when i was still flying Minmatar, I always carried several rounds of Titanium Sabot as well, for the nice damage profile and tracking bonus. Not sure if it was ever worth it, though.
I'd like to apologize for the poor quality of the post above and sincerely hope you didn't waste your time reading it.
Yes, I do feel bad about it.

I use (what i believe to be standard) EMP, Phased plasma, and fusion for normal PVE. I use the republic fleet variants for pvp, but usually only PP, with EMP as backup, i rarely cary fusion. I also have barrage for kiting in ACs or out-distancing blasters. Maybe quake for large target blapping, but i will just usally use "normal" ammo for that.
The damage modifier for the close range ammo is too great to use the other ones, unless you are intentionally trying to do serious long range sniping, but most high damage ammo will do that fine.

I am a bit of an odd ball, I generally carry barrage, Rf emp, rf fusion, rf phased plasma, and rf titanium sabot. I don't usually carry hail, because while there are circumstances I would use it in I just got really used to the idea that t2 close range ammo is bad.
Almost no one uses titanumn sabot but it has saved me a few times, it has less damage sure, but it tracks 20% better which can really be helpful in some scenarios. |

What about as far as hybrids or lasers go? Does anyone use the "oddball" ammo types for those?

I always like finding reasons to use the less-used crystals. Pulse tends to be limited to the standard Scorch-INMF-Conflag, but with my beam fits I like carrying a little bit of everything. Beams are very flexible with crystals and get a lot more use out of the various types.
About the only ones I'd never use are Microwave and Radio. DPS drops off way too much with those. |

In addition to the holy trinity of scortch, multi, and conflag; I find occasionally uses for IN standard when I am under cap pressure, IN x-Ray for a beam ship that is engaging at scortch ranges. Obviously for beams I also carry aurora and gleam usually. Also for large lasers I usually carry IN radio in addition to scorch for long range.
Blaster are void, null, CN antimatter and occasionally CN Iron. Iron charges have long range but seem to track when null doesn't. For rails it actually depends a lot generally I carry antimatter and spike and whatever highest damage ammo works for my fit that has optimal right at the edge of warp disruptor II range.
Also I use the hell out of acolyte drones because I find EM is generally a good damage type against fast frigates and they are reasonably quick and seem to track okay. |

It would seem that many of the obscure ammo types are for PVE applications so newbs can learn about optimal and falloff. I know I have never used them after my first few months.
