The point is, Apple is using intimidation tactics, pure and simple. Small companies and individuals have the choice of fighting an expensive battle in court (potentially), settle, or bend over. If they don't, and they are not a US company, then they will have trouble doing business in the US.
US laws like the DMCA make that kind of legal abuse possible everywhere in the world.
The only reason Adobe was able to arrest him on bogus grounds was because he was attending DEFCON in the US to give a presentation, they would have never been able to do it if he had stay in Russia, so yes the other poster is right in that the DMCA can't be applied overseas. As the wikipedia article states, a jury found that Elcomsoft had not willfully violated the U.S. law. That Adobe 'won' is debatable and I'm not sure how you can make the assertion that Skylarov or Elcomsoft would never code this type of thing again, what is to stop them? All this is going to cause is for these talented people to avoid traveling the US for security conferences such as DEF CON and others, lowering the quality of the much needed security topics presented in them. After this and the 'Cisco incident', the organizers of these conferences have indicated that they are considering hosting them out of the US due to the misuse of the DMCA, the worst piece of legislation in existence.

Iceland is de facto occupied by USA, as Iceland hasn't its own army and the country "protected" by USA army, so if USA had a sudden wish to impose its' laws on Iceland-based company, they _will_ do it.

1. Podcast is a completely idiotic buzzword for "web radio show" and should go the way of the dinosaur.
2. Apple only makes overpriced products for the pretentious hipster crowd. I'd rather cut myself like an emo kid than buy an iWhateverTheHellIsTrendyThisWeek.
3. Their boot camp software allows you to run your Windows games on a second boot partition on a Mac. So now I can pay for an overpriced, underperforming Mac to play the games that I could have played on a PC and saved myself several hundred dollars by doing so? Holy crap, that's a deal!
4. Enforcing trademarks on relatively unrelated products is something that Sony would do. Screwing over consumers and money grubbing = yay! I say Apple Corps (the Beatle's music company) should come back and kick Steve Jobs in the face and take Apple Computers back to court over their initial trademark infringement. (see this)

Not that I intended to buy an ipod, but I've looked around for an mp3 player for a while and this makes it even easier to not choose an ipod (along with any Sony stuff).

I banzered Apples from my life sue to their BS, same as I did Sony, for their root kit crud.
It doesn't take much to alienate people, and this will only hurt apple (you know it was a legal/marketing team that get this type of BS going...bottom feeders as I like to call them)

Its really ironic since Apple didn't invent podcasting at all. Podcasting was originally just a software hack that was applied to the iPod. Apple caught onto it and ran.
The sad thing about Apple is that this is a very common thing for them to do. They've strong armed ALOT of companies over this and cease orders are fairly common even though Apple doesn't really have real legal grounds to do so (its called intimidation). Heck when they had a major vulnerability with their wifi they strong armed the guy who demo'ed it into using third party hardware for the demo.
The difference with this case is that the CEO was having an interview with a guy from Wired when his attorney sent him a copy of the cease order. We probably wouldn't have heard about it if it wasn't for that.

Incorrect. Simon & Schuster Interactive originally published EVE Online, but does not own CCP Games nor EVE. CCP Games owns EVE Online and is not owned by any outside companies. There are a number of investors in the company, but we are our own entity.
