Well, we can disable turret effects and misc. effects. But what seems to be taxing my poor comp the most is missile effects like the damn guristas missile spam and even my own torps. Turns my game into a slideshow much more than any turret fireworks ever did. So how about an option to turn off these effects too? --------- ZOMG my sig was concordokkened! Edited by: Belien Jenton on 27/09/2006 08:19:18 I agree that there should be an option to turn of missile effects for low-end computers.
However instead of turning them off completely, what I'd really like to see was that missile explosion effects was scaled down to their actual explosion radius. That would probably give a performance (fps) increase due to much less overdraw, and add some consistency. As it is today I tried to measure a torpedo explosion and it's graphical effect exceeds a 25 kilometer radius... Doesn't quite measure up to their actual explosion radius and really makes very little sence when keeping in mind they have no splash damage...
Besides I usually find myself zooming very far out when engaging missile spammers because I get totally blinded by the multitude of simultanious explosions filling the entire screen. While we are at it turning down the missile explosion volume a bit so it comes closer to gun-shell impacts wouldn't hurt either.

It would definately be handy, I agree.
I read somewhere that the adverse effects of missile spam have something to do with the fact that missiles are tracked as actual objects, like drones and ships. If that's true, then just killing off their graphical representations might not do the job. Is there a way to have missiles be purely graphical effects, like gunfire is now?
Thinking about it, there are times when it's appropriate to treat missiles as ships, though, like when an interceptor's running away from a torpedo/cruise missile. It's a tricky thing to address.

It may be a combination of both. I'd still like to be able to turn off the explosions. If that didn't help enough, maybe the ability to turn off sending the missile objects or turn down the frequency of updates for missile objects.

It would be neat to be able to target them. A Harpy could almost eliminate the missile output of a whole complex full of NPCs.
