Heard an off rumor that Eve's creators play Everquest. Specifically, on the Drinal server as guild leaders of a pretty power house guild called The Collective. Is any of this true? Just curious because Drinal used to be my old stomping grounds (Tarew Marr before the merger). Heard this from a friend of mine who was trying to get me to play again who told me this not knowing I currently play Eve. -So newbie its not even funny.- |

You can find veterans of many games among the developers.
Warcraft 3, EverQuest, Homeworld, SWG, WoW, Ultima Online, Diablo 2, Quake 3, Counter-Strike and many more, I bet you'll find a person at CCP who plays or has played them.

Apart from simply having fun playing games they find enjoyable, there is a perfectly legitimate reason why CCP need to play other MMOs: to 'know your enemy'. I bet they've even played ROSE Online <shudders>
(ROSE is not EVE's sister, btw)

I also know of a number of developers at other game companies that play EVE. They're not "knowing their enemy" or the like, they're just playing for diversion. If you're a gamer and a game developer, chances are it's going to be tough to work on a game all day long and then go home and play that game all the time. Eventually you're just going to want to look at something else. In this regard, EVE has the advantage of being pretty radically different than anything else on the market.

The WoW owners had you strapped in a chair and forced to play, did they?
Or would it be more realistic to say that YOU wasted a year of your life, and the game didn't? ________________________________________________

It stole a year and 1 month of mine as well. I wish I would have known about Eve as much as 2 years ago. I will admit this though, the way they handle distribution of npc dropped loot is pretty nice. Even something rudimentary like what EQ uses would be cool.
p.s. I <3 your sig.

I accidently signed up for the Korean version of that game, giving the PostCode/Zip Code of a police station in Seoul as my address.
Bad idea. I keep getting long e-mails in Korean sent to me. I've no idea what they're going on about. Probably telling me I'm a very bad man or something.
To top it all off:
A) There was an English client thatI didnt know about. B) The person who had told me to play the game had been somewhat "economical with the truth" as to how good the game was. C) Lagtastic. D) Pathetically cartoony. Disney would be put to shame.

I was on the Drinal Server for 5 years myself. I was mostly in small guilds then finally I joined a end game raiding guild and found out it was extreemly boring after a week and thought, Is this it? Is this what I worked for this entire time? And quite and picked up EvE. And I dont see myself saying that to myself anytime soon. So what was your chars name. I know some EQ friends of mine on Drinal quite to play this game. I followed them but I dont know there EvE characters names. So if you were Ever on the Drinal Server Post your chars name here. Mine was Murte.

why should anyone that has any part in an mmorpg be restricted to the mmo they work on? A restriction like that in any company would be bad for employee relations / morale.
With martial valor, if one becomes like a revengeful ghost and shows great determination, though his head is cut off, he should not die. |
