Hello Capsuleers.
My name is Marlona Sky and I am running for the Council of Stellar Management, season 10. The syndication is going really well I hear. I have been following the CSM since the beginning and felt the time was right to be able to contribute in a meaningful way. No more enjoying the luxury of being a critic.
My experience in this wonderful sandbox goes all the way back to late 2005. I started off in low security space with a couple friends fighting off local pirates. Deciding not to wait for them to attack us, I took the fight to them. The best defense is a good offense, right? Eventually attacking known pirates turned into attacking potential pirates and then... well, attacking anything that looked like it might know a brother's nephew's cousin's former roommate - who might be a pirate. Originally trained by M34N corp in the ways of not fitting a hull, armor and shield repair module at the same time on a Raven - I quickly went from the hunted to the hunter. It was a pirates life for me.
Time went on and I joined Triumvirate. Experienced the joys of auction style fleet commanders and increased my PvP skills and taught me how to fight massively outnumbered. It was the age of the nano and that is when I first recognized the need of balancing in the sandbox. Ever since then I have always been intrigued by changes to the game that were for the overall good of the game and the amazing players that bring it to life.
A bit over nine years of losing space pixels and trying different things, I have seen many changes. From the introduction of carriers and titans to planetary interaction and the opening of unknown space. From the best of times to the worst of times. *cough* Incarna *cough* I have heard, seen and participated is some epic wars. Even now it still blows my mind how this game is able to bring such conflicts alive. I have been a CEO of a small corporation and for a time a director of an anchor corporation in a large alliance. From logistics for a POS network to logistics in a massive battle trying to keep my mates alive.
From participating and running player events such as Flight of a Thousand Rifters series to writing for TMC and EVE News 24. At the beginning of February of this past year I started a blog with an article called Cancers of EVE Online: Teleportation. I spent a great deal of time investigating the issue of power projection and the relation to the super coalitions that still plague the game. Even making a suggestion that involved limiting the methods of teleportation by time the more it is done. Sound familiar? I have written extensively about other topics such as clone upgrades, war declarations and other hot topics such as changing how fleet fights work. From writing reporting on battles to an in depth interview uncovering a revenge plot years in the making. From flying in super capital fleets all the way down to some real solo PvP in a hauler.
So enough about my past. What exactly do I hope to accomplish on the CSM?
While it is easy to dive deep into specific mechanics (I could go on for months) my main focus is the individual playerGÇÖs story. After all, it is the stories that draw us to this game. From either a magazine article or some friend telling you - it was always an in depth story on a heist, war, revenge, you name it. The players in these stories had real impact and decisions to help the story form. That is what I would like to see return to all the players. The Butterfly Effect from an individual player needs to have more influence than what we see now.
Any changes that will help enhance the players experience in having a real impact on the sandbox in helping tell their story and creating content I will be pushing for. I do not carry the agenda of any specific corporation, alliance or coalition. I am interested in all aspects of the game. Granted I know vastly more about some areas than others, I still take a genuine interest in them all because of the Butterfly Effect. Everything is connected. Remaining silent on a topic because you donGÇÖt happen to be in Faction Warfare or you donGÇÖt care for clothes is simply asinine. These are all part of New Eden and deserve attention from a CSM member no matter what.
Over these nine years I have meet so many people from all parts of the globe and all walks of life. Hearing your stories and sharing experiences with you has been some of the best moments of my life. With your vote, I will help the CSM function to its maximum potential in aiding CCP to give the players the best possible sandbox experience in the universe.

I've witnessed or participated in many conversations that Marlona has contributed to in various fora. He thinks critically about the pain points that affect Eve and its players and has demonstrated an ability to raise their profile and widen the conversation, bringing attention to them. Bonus: whenever he highlights an issue he usually has an idea for a solution in his back pocket as well.
I'm running for CSM X because I want to empower the community builders of New Eden and help make a richer social environment both in and out of game. I'll need your support.

You've been a strong content provider and critic within the game for a long time, and I've enjoyed following the discussions and hearing your perspective over the last few years. You'll definitely be on my ballot and I'm excited to see you have an opportunity to move into a delegate role. Your experience and knowledge of the game will be an asset to the CSM. Good luck!

Enjoyed working with Marlona - he's someone who always took the time to thoroughly explain their position even when in heated debate. Oh, and most of those times I ended being swayed to his side. Good communicator, and very knowledgable.

Marolona,
As you know, the NDA is extremely important for the CSM to do its work, and there have been past CSMs (Darius III, specifically) who did not take the NDA seriously and leaked a number of CSM skype logs. One can only assume this has reduced the willingness of CCP to work with the CSM.
Given your history of leaking logs from past jobs you've worked at, like the themittani.com logs that you dumped on failheap (without any personal information removed, and with absolutely nothing interesting in them), how would you respond to voter concerns that you, too, might leak logs from the CSM like Darius III?
Thanks! |

Adding to EvilweaselFinance's question regarding leaking information which included people's out of game details such as their real names etc, the distince irony in which you (Marlona) asserted that the reason for CCP's supposed hesitance in keeping the CSM in the loop was because "it has become very apparent to them and even the player base - there is some loose lips on the CSM."
You have a history of leaking private logs, as illustrated here, and your unwillingness to acknowledge you were responsible for putting people's out of game information up for grabs when confronted. I'm curious, how do you feel your membership on CSM 10 would improve the image that the CSM does not have "loose lips" to CCP?

I have removed some rule breaking posts.
The Rules: 3. Ranting is prohibited.
A rant is a post that is often filled with angry and counter productive comments. A free exchange of ideas is essential to building a strong sense of community and is helpful in development of the game and community. Rants are disruptive, and incite flaming and trolling. Please post your thoughts in a concise and clear manner while avoiding going off on rambling tangents.
4. Personal attacks are prohibited.
Commonly known as flaming, personal attacks are posts that are designed to personally berate or insult another forum user. Posts of this nature are not beneficial to the community spirit that CCP promote and as such they will not be tolerated.
This is a CSM campaign thread, keep it civil please!

To clarify, is any question that asks a candidate questions about less positive aspects of their past, no matter how civilly worded, considered "ranting" or "flaming"? This is an election process after all, I'd appreciate the ability to ask important questions of candidates without ISD removing them if the candidate doesn't want to answer. |

ISD Ezwal,
Please point specifically to where that post was a personal attack or a rant. It cited Marlona's own commentary on the CSM and the NDA process and seems pertinent.
Thanks.
Edit -
Here, I'll post it in a different way.
Marlona, you asserted that the reason for CCP's supposed hesitance in keeping the CSM in the loop (as cited by Sion Kumitomo in the CSM 9 Year In Review dev blog) was because "it has become very apparent to them and even the player base - there is some loose lips on the CSM." CCP Falcon dispelled this comment and assertion quite strongly.
Should you get elected, what do you feel would make your involvement with CSM 10 any different, given your past behavior?

Marlona sent me this response, which I'd like to respond to publicly:
Quote: hi From: Marlona Sky Sent: 2015.01.30 17:13 To: EvilweaselFinance
I don't mind questions about my campaign, but ones that are filled with wild exagerations and lies the ISD team will have a field day with. What you are asking about is basically apples and oranges. There was no personal information leaked. TMC had no NDA and the jabber channel was widely shared constantly with goons and the rest of CFC during THE ENTIRE TIME I WAS THERE.
I get this might be the very crux of your entire Grrr Marlona campaign, but you need far better ammo than that. Especially some that does not rely on bending/breaking the truth in what really happened.
So again, you can ask questions, just make sure to do some fact checking. Maybe someone told you wrong, which for that I appologize for being so abrasive right now. I just will not tolerate those rummors, which I'm guessing why the ISD team removed them.
Again, feel free to ask questions, but just keep them based on truth. It is what I want and ultimatly what CCP wants.
My response to this is the below:
My question was quite respectfully phrased, and you had every chance to challenge the facts. I think it says enough that your defense is to get the post erased. There are legitimate arguments you could make about why they're different, of course. But if it was a ~grr marlona~ campaign then some PL guy I've never spoken to probably wouldn't have agreed with me.
I've looked at the evidence myself and I don't agree with your defenses. Number 1, leaking people's personal information was reckless and you should have known better. It probably was a mistake because you didn't really think through what would happen, but it is compounded by your refusal to admit that it was wrong and actually lying about if it happened. Number 2, it's not covered by an NDA but it is a violation of social trust that people put in you that speaks to your character.
That you leaked the logs is uncontested. You deny that personal information was in the logs, but that's been convincingly disproven over and over again and at this point in time it's your word against the logs themselves. If you were correct, it would be easy to prove I was wrong - and that's something you'd welcome if you were correct. After all, the logs (and scrapheap) are relatively objective sources.
You think the situations are different and that there are extenuating circumstances or other relevant facts but that's not telling me that my question is not based on "truth", that's telling me you disagree with my interpretation of the uncontested facts. If there's other facts that are relevant, the appropriate response would be to share those as well. Trying to get the questions erased and avoid any public discussion of the issue is not. |

Protect me from knowing what I don't need to know. Protect me from even knowing that there are things to know that I don't know. Protect me from knowing that I decided not to know about the things that I decided not to know about. Amen.

Marlona, you asserted that the reason for CCP's supposed hesitance in keeping the CSM in the loop (as cited by Sion Kumitomo in the CSM 9 Year In Review dev blog) was because "it has become very apparent to them and even the player base - there is some loose lips on the CSM." Should you get elected, what do you feel would make your involvement with CSM 10 any different, given your past behavior?
Regarding the statement that "no personal information was leaked" in those logs: Lucia Denniard, who you had host the logs, can attest that personal information was in the original logs you provided. She was requested to remove any references to people's real world names, and had to run a script to remove that information. This can be proven when comparing the logs hosted to the original logs.
Since the CSM has had issues with, as you put it, "loose lips" what do you feel makes you exempt from that stigma if you were elected to CSM 10?

marlona has been smearing his hot steaming opinions all over various fora for years now and has proven again and again to be unreliable, clueless and irritating. Maybe the best solution is to remove fighter assign completely till it can be reintroduced in a more balanced way.
