I started to write this in response to someone else's post, but I felt it was worthy of its own discussion.
EVE is a hugely tactical game. Its victories are often won with no shots fired. Heck, victories can be won on the forums (/waves to Sir Molle). Victories exist in building an outpost, a titan, and a successful organization. When you can appreciate the victories that come from factors other than an even fight on the battlefield, you will appreciate EVE as a whole, and it becomes much harder to lose interest. Now, of course, you may not be the industrialist or the forum ***** or the 50M sp 100:1 ratio pvp'r, but it is about your contribution to these successes is where the fun in EVE is derived from.
If you are seeking the adrenaline rush of PvP constantly just for PvP's sake, this is not the game for you. Your time will end when alliances can actually lock down their space. I don't care if you are a double digit billionaire now, you will run out of cash because the alliances will be harvesting all the resources. Alliance members will be in the shiny Tech 3 toys while you are bored because you can't get even fights anymore because you are always outgunned.
Here is where I urge those players annoyed with that idea to sit back and realize this is not a PvP game in the sense of Counter Strike, but more like Age of Empires. Yes, I am speaking to the rest of the veterans here. I am disappointed that you did not see this earlier. Many of you in pure fighting PvP organizations say that EVE is the game for you because it has consequences when you lose. Yet you seem to forget the fact that you have built up such a backing that it no longer has consequences to lose a ship, and is in essence no better than WoW PvP. You accuse the other side wossing out, when in reality the other side understands there are consequences in going into battle and there is a bigger picture than simply defeating every party that comes along looking for a fight.
I once was in a pure fighting PvP group. Molle called me inconsequential. I laughed and pointed to my killboards where we were beating his organization. Then I understood that fighting victories are not the only victory condition in EVE, and realized he was right. I moved on.
Now, do you wish to see the fun in other parts of the game besides pewpew, or can I have your stuff? This turned into a bit more of a rant then I intended, so I'll don my flame suit now.
(btw, being annoyed with laggy posses etc is a perfectly valid point, yet the real 'players' deal with it) For some reason the fact that ~50% of the people replying to the thread fail to read and understand the point of the OP is hilarious. |

I think my sig is winning this thread so far, lol.
Don't get me wrong, I love shooting things as much as the next non-empire player.
And I wasn't reffering to me personally with the Molle comment, but rather a group of players (the ORIGINAL VC)
