Since pods don't warp in stations, i logged, came back, my pod hadn't moved. He refused to pay the 100 mil saying "That wasn't the deal"
Too many new players taking their word for granted nowadays, the wowification of eve has unfortunately come upon us.

Pirates, we work for the betterment of the game's IQ and maturity level - if you don't have the dedication to work hard for something you want, or the ability to take its loss gratefully without whining, then imo you don't belong here, or at least in lowsec or 0.0.

Meh, there's a line between newbishness and stupidity; general, its pretty obvious:
- Person mining away in 0.4 in a Bantam unaware he's about to get ganked? Newb, feel bad for him, but offers of advice generally follow an attack. - Person caught in a Vexor, ratting in lowsec that starts calling the pirates a bunch of repressed RL bullies that only exist to make others suffer? Ass, one that can't cope with the loss of a small to medium ship and refuses to accept that their mistakes caused their death.
Its the latter we hope to marginalize in the game, rather than the newb. I've even gone so far as to loan a newb money before to help him buy another Iteron, which he could have easily ran off with - he just recently got a Raven and killed a player with a bounty on him, yarrrr .

my experience with WoWification in EVE?
on the forums - the rants "decrease the time between jumpclones - i want to travel instantly and convenient" .. a few weeks/month ago the main response was "hell - no it's not WoW" ... but lately the main response became to "hell - yes, i want more convenience!!!1!"

When paying a ransom, check your attackers age, bio etc and just plain judge what kind of a guy he is.
I'm not paying anything if someone starts the conversation in 90% leet speek.
That said, rest assured that Kublai survival services will always honour your ransom and try to set it within reason <3

Unfortunately, pirates are a very narcissistic bunch. That is why whenever reading this forum you often get huge e-peen waving wars about dishonouring 1v1s or who fits WCS. Ruins this forum.
The OP had a vague point, but unfortunately it has been twisted by cretins whining about noobs and how EVE ain't what it used to be. But to be honest, EVE has always had smacktards, kiddies and newbies playing it, and it still got along fine. When was this time when only superintelligent hardcore PvPers played EVE? EVE is changing, and it is becoming more mainstream, but it seems to me that they (new players) aren't the only ones having trouble adapting - so are you - and also perhaps you are giving the rest of the community too little credit. Sooner or later new players learn the ropes and can begin to challenge and defeat much older players - irrespective of how mainstream and non-nerdy the renewed playerbase may be.
But is that possible? After all everyone here is the uberest pirate in EVE so it couldn't happen to anyone who has already posted in this thread. Right? Right? Tell me no one here has be destroyed by a character younger than them in game.
My advice is to ignore the pointless pirate e-peen wavers, since no doubt this post will be responded to with more e-peen waving and not a carefully constructed argument. |

Whats an e-peen? How do I get one? Can they be purchased on escrow? Does not having an e-peen hurt my PvPing ability? Is it possible that I recieved an e-peen and just didn't know? If I search my assets thoroughly will it show e-peens? I never finished the tutorial missions.. is that where e-peens are distributed? PM me as I think I need an e-peen.

the problem aren't newbies per se ...
the problem are tendencies in behavior which will lead in the long term to a diluted gaming experience for everyone (or atleast for those who joined EVE because of it's complexity, it's harshness and it's rewarding character)
i'd really like to know how many of the newbies of the last 2 month joined EVE because of things like the GHSC heist and not because they were looking for a new game to grind some NPCs?? ___________________

You get an e-peen by doing a few things. The most common ones are posting at every available opportunity that WCS are for noobs, that you never use them, that you always honour 1v1s and that you despair at noob pirates/PvPers asking any questions or looking for any help whatsoever.
I'm sure it won't be too hard for you to figure out other ways of obtaining and cultivating your e-peen. |

Bah you just had to reply with a well-constructed argument, didn't you?
Tendencies in behavior which will lead in the long term to a diluted gaming experience for everyone are certainly manifest, but the impact they have on CCP's game design is hard to gauge.
GHSC's heist was great publicity for EVE and the hardcore gaming community sat up and took notice. This is the kind of game EVE is, and I seriously doubt very few people would join EVE to grind NPCs. If they had done enough homework to realise what an NPC is, they would probably want to play WoW.
I think what we are seeing here is a backlash from the hardcore MMO community against MMOs beginning to go mainstream. Everything is a kneejerk reaction against 'WoWism', when it needn't necessarily be. To the point where issues and features such as jumpclones and what level 5s should be can be telescoped by the forumites as issues of WoWism.
WoWism is what I have decided to call 'tendencies in behavior which will lead in the long term to a diluted gaming experience for everyone (or atleast for those who joined EVE because of it's complexity, it's harshness and it's rewarding character)' - as Ishquar put it.
Personally, I don't think people are giving the newbies enough credit, I certainly don't think that they are giving CCP enough credit. I understand a desire to 'protect' EVE from traits present in other filthy MMOs, but I think that the EVE universe and CCP themselves are more than capable of doing this. |

I think the fact that people start coming over from WoW is pretty cool, CCP has made an amazing game and now more people are finaly noticing.
As mentioned, the strongest will stick around, this mmorpg is alot more harsh than WoW. So the impatient newcomer smack talkers will hopefully be filtered out

Edited by: Hori To on 30/09/2006 23:02:06 nothing wrong with wow type players, most of us get our npc fix and then some from wow.
I am older than 2 months, but I did join partly because of the GHSC heist, just in time to get burned by EIB.
edit: And I love EvE, not for it's gfx, kickass interface or well scripted npc encounters, but for the ability for players to put themselves on the map, literally.
