Edited by: Taipan Gedscho on 03/10/2006 11:13:53 dunno if some of you read my "smuggling gone wrong" thread... but...
i got popped, and a can worth around 500 mil was sitting at the gate. if you just picked the expensive stuff you could have gotten away with far below 100m3 cargo.
after the timer ran out i got popped again (!?!?), so this can sat around the gate for around 30 minutes. in a system with a republic school.
nobody ever looked at it.
/me shrugs.
heck, i check every of those cans next to the gates. and if the chance to loot more isk than i can possibly loose by getting popped in a trap is there... guess what. -- Only you can save MMORPGS - Stop whining today! |

That tactic is so obvious, everybody knows it and won't get baited. Unless u do it a newbie school, u can get alot of ibis kills.

My old corp was once war-dec'd by a merc corp. After some fighting in Cistuvaert, they went to the station and baited noobs. It was kinda sad to see.

A corp mate of mine was flying through a cage and there was a couple of known pirates sitting there (Thorax and AF.) He said sod it launched his (light) drones and picked up ther can, and said "Lets go."
The Pirates fled.
Nuff said.

I do get a chuckle once in a while baiting noobs. I know, I'm pathetic. Recently I've just brought them to hull and tell them what they did wrong.
But anyway, the canbait tactic doesn't really work anymore. Since the criminal flagging was added, people have caught on. Maybe except by really bad macro-programs, but even those are catching up nowadays.

If you take a can of a dude with a vastly superior ship, then he will attack you. You will win if you know how to use you're vastly inferior ship. :) --------------------------------------------------

A tactic I'v tried a couple times was scanning some belts finding a barge, warp in a manticore and cloak right away (It's like a crocodile entering the water across from a water buffalo drinking from a river bank, they don't really pay notice) .
I had a 10k scram so I sit within that range. Then send in a corpmate in a shuttle flip there can sit for about 20 seconds warp off then log.
Now they think ok the arse is gone and no sooner do they ignore the theft warning there locked down before they can say WTF.
It's funny the first couple times but after a few it gets old, but does make for some nice fanmail.

Well, I dunno about anyone else, but if I'm not carrying anything valuable, I'll pop a look at nearby cans, provided the owner or anyone obvious isn't sitting around. If it's valuable enough I'll nick it.
On the other hand, 90% of the cans I see floating around seem to contain a unit of tritanium and a civilian something or rather. Hardly worth risking it.

When I'm too lazy for looting, I often drop a can with a loot BM in it, which says: "Feel free to loot". Now guess how many people actually do this...
Only one time, when I asked in local if somebody would like to collect the loot, I got an response. One. From 70+ people. And it took me about 10min to convince him that I wont attack. Its actually a bit sad and I blame those ebil pirats for this!

Emptying baiting cans are great, especially when you end up with both the T2 bait and the can from the guy that left it there in the first place.

tripping the trap and watching the tubes that set the trap run around looking for you is a nice break from the standard play, it sad so many people only think in 2 dimensions.
and yes a cloak is standard for this to sit and watch the fun after taking the trap can. |
