According to new theories.. we may actually be living in a fluid universe..
Quote: In physical terms, the model describes the universe as being filled with a quantum fluid. The scientists propose that this fluid might be composed of gravitonsGÇöhypothetical massless particles that mediate the force of gravity. If they exist, gravitons are thought to play a key role in a theory of quantum gravity.
..Meaning that our Fluid Universe Space Submarine game might actually be (somewhat)right with physics!
What else did CCP get (somewhat)right eventhough the rest of the world and/or common sense thinks its wrong? Are doors not supposed to open? Can we shoot through solid matter with a missile? Is there actually a universal horizontal that all spaceships will orient themselves to?!?!?! Can we bump something at 800m/s and sustain no damage whatsoever? IS THERE EVEN A BACO..errr ..SPOON?!?!?!1!?!1!

I see no mention of 'ethers' in either the article linked here, nor the actual article it's referencing.
It should also be worth noting, too, that this new 'theory' is still in its hypothesis stage. All they've done is resolve some equations. There's definitely more research to do. Likewise, the article doesn't suggest that the 'big bang' didn't occur, just that it didn't come from a singularity.
In contrast, this article is definitely worth a read.

If you would believe that our shields are a form of electromagnetic energy fields then they would probably all have similar polarized "north and south poles", so it might be possible to bump people in a manner to pushing to sourh pole magnets together. However the inertia created without some kind of dampening field would just kill all the crew of the ships involved as they wouldn't be able to withstand the gravitational effects of the collision

What they are talking about and the Aether are two totally different and unrelated ideas. The original description of the Aether is still horribly wrong.

Hmm.... Ought to be bonus points for achieving a vertical bump. Double points for bumping a ship through a moon/planet/station.

in eve, you can go faster than the speed of light in 'sublight' mode (nonwarp speed) by getting bumped by the sun, though its still a hell of a lot slower than warp drive |

And why not?
Almost every trope in Eve is taken from science fiction and science fiction is derived from science. (Can I get a big "duh" here? )
Take the clones for example. They ARE actually taking hearts and "bleaching" the DNA out of them, leaving a structure that can be filled with someone else's DNA. Might be a century before we see them do that to an entire body.
But think about this: the jet engine existed in concept almost a century before they were built. It merely took time for the metallurgy to catch up (and even those first engines, like in the ME-262, would spontaneously blow up) . So we already have the concept of cloning, eventually the technology to facilitate it will catch up.

I too will take your ever-so-serious post and refute the notion that CCP got it right.
A massless quantum fluid would obviously not slow down our ships and create a maximum top speed like Eve's space-gravy does. It's the mass of the medium that does the slowing down, requiring energy to move out of the way.
And yes, there is, and ever will be, BACON!
I find that without a good mob to provide one for them, most people would have no mentality at all.

Nope, we hardly understand how memory works let alone being able to read it or transfer it. And that's with specific memories. Things like muscle memory are even less understood.

It is the drag from the warp drive, which is always on, even though it is not "active". :P

But.. have you ever seen BACON in the Eve universe? This universe is completely devoid of bacon, which to me is completely immersion breaking. I am sure that even on alien worlds in RL, there is some form of space bacon. To think that Earth is the only planet in the entirety of the universe that has bacon.. frankly that is scary. What if aliens learn of this? Do we really need a mass invasion of Earth by 40000 aliens species over the rarest commodity in existence? Humankind wiped out over bacon... No thank you.
I will admit that your Theory of Eve Online Space Gravy does intrigue me more than the Standard Eve Fluid Universe Model does. Perhaps the new ship models that have 'Warp Ram jets' actually use Space Gravy Compressors as propulsion system components. I guess we will need to wait until the CCP Falcon promised 'Eve Online Spaceship Engineering' book is released to get our answers on that one. But the Theory of Eve Online Space Gravy does raise another question.. does there exist somewhere in the universe an equal amount of Galactic Mashed Potatoes? Perhaps the Eve Online Universe star cluster actually floats in the Space Gravy nestled in a well in the center of a heaping scoop of delicious Galactic Mashed Potatoes! The Galactic Mashed Potatoes are what is blocking our ability to pinpoint our location in relation to the Milky Way!
My mind has been blown War Kitten, or at the very least.. expanded.
